Charter Senior Living

Out of the others that I looked at, it has more of a homey, down to earth atmosphere. It does not have all of the glitz and glammer like a couple of the others that we looked at. Mom grew up on a farm so she was looking for more of a cozy atmosphere. I would recommend Cedarhurst of Verona to others looking.

This was a nice community. It wasn't the right fit for our loved one due to their needs.

We picked this community, because it was the best fit for my loved one. The whole atmosphere is excellent.

We really like that the community is very friendly and small enough that everyone knows everyone there and the staff know all the residents by their name. They are very willing to step up and do what is needed to be done if you ask. The downsize is that either they are understaffed or poorly managed to the extent that we find pretty routinely things that have not been done - laundry, house keeping, etc. They sometimes don't seem to know who is in charge and it takes us getting a few different people to figure it out

I toured this community and it went well. It's clean, staff is friendly, my visit was very good. It just wasn't the best choice for my loved one as far as her individual needs. But a great place!

We are having some issues with the housekeeping in my moms room - that is the only complaint. The people have all been great. I am happy with the staff to residents ratio. It is a darling place and the cost is in line with our budget. It is the best place for my mom and she is thrilled with all of the staff. She loves the food as well, I have also talked to other residents as well and they seem to like it too. The activities they have provided for the residents in memory care are great and [name removed] the activities director is wonderful. They do so many cool things and have a ton going on. The grounds at the facility are beautiful. We like the fact that it is all on one floor and there are only 16 people per cottage so the care is more personalized. We would absolutely recommend The Cottages of Fox Lake to others.

We really do like the staff we do think they are exceptional - however once it was purchased by the new owners we were told they were going to start making renovations and that was not happened yet which is a little frustrating.

My 84 year old mother started in a wheelchair and now using a walker after receiving PT and OT from Cedarhurst She is happy with her meals, room, and especially likes the activity director. It did take over 2 months to get her prescription drugs coming from their pharmacy, Medexpress. She went 3 days without her pain medication They assure me it shouldn’t happen in the future. Her doctor also called several times in one day to health director, left messages and no one returned the calls. She was out of her office, so I gave her [name removed] number and she took care of getting report for doctor. Staff is friendly, especially kitchen staff and everyone refers to the residents by first names.

My friend seems to be very satisfied. It has been a good fit for her. The staff have been very nice. The other residents are very nice and helpful. And it has been a good experience for her.

My mother who is 94 years old states she enjoys talking with the staff because they are all respectful and social. Linden has a pleasant dining atmosphere with a fantastic staff. My mother has a great relationship with each dining staff and the CNA/ Resident Assistants. Our family are pleased with the facility & the care for our mother and grateful that the staff & administration are open to working through issues.

We would recommend but we do know they are struggling with staffing just like everyone else. We do know our loved one is being well cared for.

Was quite a lovely and nice clean facility and the tour was very nice. Staff seemed very friendly and welcoming.

Our family had an in person tour and we had a good tour experience we have nothing bad to say about this community, it just so happened another community fit our loved ones needs more.

We had to move my husband from one place that was eventually taken over by Charter as we were leaving. We were very unhappy with them, then they changed hands after one month. We moved him to this Charter Senior Living of Williamsburg and we were very happy with them. They were very kind and good to my husband, he was happy with them as well.

Went for a tour while looking for best place for our loved one, seemed to be a very nice place but ended up choosing one that fit closer to our family.

I toured Charter Senior Living of Newport News and we would have gone here, but there were no openings. They participated in PACE, so if we ran out of funds we knew that there would an alternative. We wouldn't have had to find Medicaid, as I was looking at long-term solutions. There was no availability at this location, so we chose the Charter Senior Living in Williamsburg.

It has been a pretty good experience overall. My family member seems to be happy there. The activities are excellent. I just think the price is outlandish - there's a considerable extra charge for someone who can't hear yet is very active and able otherwise. I feel we got nickeled and dimed once we got in. I would advise you to keep your eyes wide open regarding that. They told us one thing up front, but once we moved in, it was different. You have to stay on top of things. You can't just put your loved one in there and expect them to do everything. When I have concerns, they tell me they'll act on it ASAP. He has adjusted well overall, which I credit a lot to the activities and the activities director - she's superb and a huge credit to Charter. His involvement in the activities helps keep his spirits up.

The original staff and original help are phenomenal but unable to keep that staff around. So they are cycling through staff too quickly. Having same staff stick around, routine is key. The meals and dining program is absolutely excellent, very good with no issues. Everything is offered with very large portions. They have a hydration station always available. They have a fantastic activities program and have recently hired an additional assistant. They participate in all National Food Days and National Days. They are currently on a Cruise for Hawaii and Italy upcoming this week. Very wonderful program. One of the nurses was asked to do something and she stated "We are not a skilled Nursing center". That was the only downside had at the current time.
