Nice place, overall!

Overall things have gone well at Emeritus at Dartmouth! The facility itself is well kept and clean, and the staff have been very friendly and helpful! Communications between the staff and the families could be improved, however. My loved one was given her medication incorrectly despite my having told another staff member the appropriate way to do it. It also took quite a while before they go around to getting her phone service set up.

They need new staff.

Cleanliness is not an issue here. The staff are nice when the family is there. There are a couple of people that are wonderful, the nurse is fantastic. The waitstaff and dining staff are awful, and the food isn't good, and the atmosphere isn't nice. The staff act like the residents aren't even there, they talk among themselves right in front of them. They grumble and complain about work and aren't very professional. We really liked the location, and she liked the looks of it, and was impressed with it.

Working out pretty good.

When I first toured I really noticed how clean it was, and how friendly and cleanly the staff was. I saw the attentiveness to the residents and how frequently they used the sanitzer in the halls. I liked the location and the value for the price. The food would be a five. The staff's communication with each other could be better. There were some specific instructions that didn't get communicated from one shift to another. They need to keep a better eye on who is coming in and out of the building, there is a sign out sheet but there is no one supervising that, making sure people are signing in and out. They do have a memory wing there, and that one you do need a code there, but the front door is not secured, I'm not sure how good that would be for someone with wandering issues that really needed a lock down facility. I liked the layout, it goes in a big square so they can walk and walk and not get lost. They had some of the biggest rooms of the places I looked at.

Very Pleased

I can not begin to tell how grateful I am to have my 94 year old aunt reside at the Fountains of Troy. All of the employees are friendly, the aides and nurse are very attentive. The aides check on the residents every couple of hours, 24 hours a day. They are very friendly and it is obvious how much they care for the residents. We moved my aunt from another state into an assisted living facility in Maryville and she was assessed by the facility and we were very detailed with the assistance she needed, they said they would provide the assistance. After three weeks they called to tell me we should find a place that could give her more care. I was very upset about this. I spoke to the administrator of the Fountains and she assured me they could take care of my aunt. She has now been there one and one-half years and we are very pleased. My aunt is happy there, as well. I am always telling people to go there if they are looking for a place for their loved ones. (And, I tell them not to go to the other place, unless they need no assistance at all). I do not worry about my aunt at the Fountains, they have called me when she wasn't feeling well. Thank you everyone, at the Fountains!

I am very happy with the stay there

The staff is very friendly. There aren't really any concerns and I am very happy with the stay there. They do certain activities, and I just wish they had a wider variety. With the residents that are there, most are in their 70-90's and they like to dance, and there is never a dancing night, and they have never had one. I think they would really like that.

Very bright and clean. Newer facility/appeared to be maintained. A bit pricey and the independent villas are a little larger than dad needs(2bdrm/2bath), but really nice w/ a screened patio and garage. No pool but has activities and field trips. Beauty salon/barber shop on site but not included in monthly fee. No odd smells. Dining room nice and on site chef. Pets are allowed. Met with Mary Ross.

Our Mom's respite stay

The majority of the staff at Paradise Park were awesome, caring people. We did have some issues with medicaitons being dispensed at the appropriate times. We would advise family members to check in often to ensure medication routines are being followed. When we moved our Mom out the nursing staff neglected to give us ALL her medication. They called almost 3 weeks later to let me know they had "found" some meds that belonged to our Mom. The facility was always clean and never smelled bad. Our Mom's laundry was always done, she was showered and her bedding was clean. The food was served hot and was well received. The only other concern we had was the inability to reach someone when calling in on the general number. 99% of the time the only response was a recording and not a real person. This was not the case when calling the nursing staff. They almost always answered their phone or returned the call in a timely manner. All in all it is a great place for your loved one but you still need to pay attention to what is happening and check in often.

Advice from recent move in

We had a couple glitches moving in, but the people working there are stellar! My mom finally has all the assistance she needs cheerfully given with care. The food is good and there is plenty of it including 4 snacks brought out to the rooms a day. To avoid misunderstandings, pay attention when given a walk through and repeat back what is told to you to be sure you understood correctly. Take notes. This is a truly caring facility

Great location; we know one of the GNA's which is a plus! We liked Emeritus a lot and our two least favorite things were the individual care ratio (a little higher than his current care). We preferred a roommate/companionship setting as opposed to a single room. The cost is moderate.

Nice place, overall

Overall our experience with Southern Pines was very good. The facility itself was very nice, and the care they provided was excellent. The staff were all friendly, helpful, and professional. However, when my loved one got to the point where she needed to move to a higher level care facility they could have done a much better job helping us with that transition. I had a lot of questions regarding getting her moved, and I could hardly get anyone to return my calls.

Lovely facility with a good resident-to-staff ratio.

So far, so good! My Step-Dad transferred here from a retirement community as he needed that extra level of care. We like that there are 6 care levels and an RN does the assessment to determine which level is needed. That way you pay only for the extra services you need. And after 30 days, there will be another evaluation to determine if changes may be needed. He has been here just a week. Already he is loving the attention level. The food choices looked good to me, but he says not as good as the retirement community. It will take some time to get his schedule going, but this facility is beautiful and full of friendly, helpful staff.

Don't Believe Everything You are Told

What is told to perspective families on tour and what actually is are sometimes two different things. The staff is very caring and friendly in taking care of their charges. The food served is good. All tables should be set with salt & pepper shakers and other condiments for the diners. Activities are not posted in a location where residents can easily seem them and should be announed daily. This is a memory care center - most residents will not even look at the activities calendar but will go to the activities if prompted by the staff. Activities posted do not always happen. Housecleaning of the apts is basic at best and have not been given a good answer when and how often apts are cleaned or what they do clean. Executive staff is very nice but requires follow up to questions, problems, etc. Family members need to understand EXACTLY the level of care assigned, ask for assessments and the results. Once assigned impossible to change except to go up and charge more. They will tell you after 3 months a detailed assessment is done on the resident and reported to the family. This never happened. Cleanliness of the facility is good but not great, especially with the deep cleaning and general maintenance etc. Family members need to stay on top and make sure their loved ones are getting and receiving the services Emeritus is responsible for providing. Executive staff works mainly M-F until 5:00. Think it would be very beneficial to have one staff member on call or at the facility during the weekends especially at night. Finding someone to answer phone or help later in evening is difficult. If a resident is somewhat self sufficient and has cognitive skills to remember dates, times, etc they are fine. If resident, requires more one on one care in all areas, then family needs to be diligent in make sure resident is getting care and getting that care in a timely fashion.

Tough Adjustment for My Mom

This is tough. I'm writing as the daughter of a person who lives here. I really like PL at Hermitage. My mom's adjustment has been tough, but it would be wherever she moved to. She hated it at first. Now that she has somewhat adjusted to a different living arrangement, she is doing better. She really likes the staff and many of the residents. She is in a one bedroom, one bath studio. I love it and I think it's clean, cute and enough room for her. She disagrees, but she's adjusting. Keep in mind, she left a 2 story, 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home with a garage and large backyard! In the very beginning, we had to talk to the staff about the number of times that they checked on her each day. We felt secure knowing that they had to check on them every 2 hours, but it was not necessary for her. They agreed to cut back and she is so much happier. The food is not great in her opinion and a few of the other residents agree with her. She is just beginning to participate in activities so I can't really speak about that. Just keep in mind when you're searching, that all facilities will have pros and cons. I felt a warmth and friendliness from the staff every time I visited before we moved my mom. I never had an appointment and the place was always bright, clean and the staff nice, professional and helpful. Overall, I'm really pleased and I think my mom is getting closer each day to saying that she likes it there too.

it was a lovely facility an...

it was a lovely facility and I think mom would be very happy there. Unfortunately, they did not have a room that she needs, and offered me the next size up, for a reduced rate for 3 months. If one is not available in 3 months, I would be responsible for the entire rent for the larger room. I am thinking about putting a deposit on the smaller, original room, but who knows when one will be available.

Nice place, overall

We were very pleased with everything here! The staff were friendly and professional, and it looked like the care and activities they provided would be very food! One problem we noticed was that although the common areas and front entrance were nice, the hallways and rooms looked a bit shabbier, and could probably use recarpeting.
