We had a group of 5 touring AL communities. I had rescheduled this tour by e-mail, but this led to some confusion. Despite this the Emeritus people recovered quickly and served us tea and cookies as a welcome. After our tour we were served dinner in a private dining room. Everyone was very helpful and did what ever then could to make our stay enjoyable. A few days later, when my father was being evaluated by the Emeritus nurse, she recommeded that he go to the ER. He did and he was found to have pneumonia. I signed him up at Emeritus the next day.

Accommodating Staff and Balanced Meals

My father-in-law is difficult. He has mild dementia and he's not always that easy to deal with. I think they've done a really nice job being accommodating. He looks like he's being taken care of more than he has in years. He's doing better so it's all good. It's clean, it's friendly, and he's eating balanced meals. He's not that social but if he were a social person, we notice that there are a lot activities that he has the option to get involved in. They're doing a great job.

It was obvious that Nancy Therrien is in the right profession. She was extremely pleasant and professional. She made mine and Mem's visit truly enjoyable. In fact, every staff person we met was pleasant and every resident we met seemed very happy with Emeritus. The facility was clean and beautifully decorated. Being a dog lover, Mem especially enjoyed meeting their resident dog, Ace, a rescued Cocker Spaniel. Our only current concern may be the same with all facilities comparable with Emeritus, which is the monthly cost. Right now, Mem could afford a shared unit with a private locking bedroom and a shared sitting area (very small), kitchenette and bathroom. The bathrooms were very nice and safe. Nancy felt that the shared room would be a good option for Mem because she seemed to be a person that would enjoy spending a lot of time away from her room in the common areas. We discussed the possibility of the shared unit to start, and possibly selling her house and using the money to supplement her monthly income for a private unit.

We're Glad We Chose Quail Run

We like Quail Run. The staff is great. I love the staff and the nursing staff is great too. My mom is comfortable and happy. It a nice place. I'm glad we chose that one for mom. I think they can gear their activities toward the residents more. The activities are kind of a general thing. They have some in each building and mom participates in a lot of them but there are some that can't. It would be nice if they had something that everyone could participate in.

I found the Fountains of Troy through Shelia at A Place for Mom. My sister and I had been looking for an Assisted Living facility for my 80 year old Mom with mild dementia for over two years all over the Southern IL region and in STL. We also looked at private nursing care. I have toured many places and talked to several AL directors and staff members over the past few years. I can say without hesitation that the Fountains of Troy is the best I've seen. It started with Michele and Stacy, the Director and Site Manager. They were both extremely kind, responsive to our questions and clearly cared about the residents. They were accommodating to my Mom's needs. The rooms are not the largest I have seen but I have seen a lot smaller. They are nicely done though and most rooms have a great view of the pond or cornfield. The have nice bay windows. The Fountains of Troy has a wonderful Activities Director too and there seems to be a lot going on if the residents want to participate. There is sufficient staff and every time I go to visit someone is checking in on Mom or coming to remind about meds. My Mom said the food is "okay" but I have eaten there and the food is very good. What is great about the Fountains of Troy too is that that there are really nice common gathering areas scattered around the place. Right down the hall from my Mom's room is a nice sitting area with a big screened in porch. Overall the price is right too. My Mom is getting level 1 care. Many places have crazy add on's and such that can add up fast.

They were a tremendous facility to work with. I would tell ya that the facilty was great and the people were absolutely wonderful, professionally courteous and they truly bend over backwards to try to make a fit. They did to the extent of actually knocking down a wall and putting a door between the 2 rooms that would allow both my parents to have ample room and so that my father would be able to be in the same complex as my mother. They were so increadibly accomodating, I think they have very frequent transportation to a number of different things that were locally available which was nice also.

Nurses were awesome, not happy with the director

I love the place, it's not really appropriate for me to rate the activities because I took my aunt there for respite and day care. My aunt liked it there and the staff is wonderful, they could improve on communication with administration and the staff, it doesn't seem like they talk to one another. I liked it because of the staff and the presentation, although I can tell you I wasn't very happy with the director. She put on a good front in the beginning, but later on she wasn't very responsible. She didn't respond to my calls and she didn't return my requests to talk to her, so that was disappointing. If it wasn't for Jen I would have stopped going there, she was wonderful and also Sue, she was awesome too, but I was very disappointed with the administrator.

This was a purely memory care facility and it was outstanding. The cleanliness, the quality of the care, the simplicity of the care... They explained to us that they don't have a menu that they're able to pick from, it's just "here's what you're eating today" and if you don't like it they'll make something else for you. They realize that for some people, making these decisions just gets them riled up. They have a lot of groups activities, and one of the things I thought was amazing over here is that they had volunteers coming in to participate in the group activites. One of the times I was there, they had two kids that were in grade school that were playing catch and other games and these kids, their family member passed away like 5 years ago and they still come to visit. The quality of the people there, their pysical and mental state was much farther gone but that's something you come to expect in places like that. One of the things about Autumn Leaves is, since it's privately owned, the price is negotiable.

The Gold Standard

My mom loved it her, absolutely loved it. I can't say enough good about them, I have a friend whose parents are still there and love it. It's the gold standard by which we compare all other places to. It was a small facility so everybody knew everybody which was great and it was really really clean. I would highly recommend anybody who was for whatever reason in Paris or moving to Paris to go to Morningside.

Very Happy With Everything

I'm very happy with it. I'm happy with everything, the cleanliness, the people that work there - everything. They have thier own kitchen and crafts, pysical therapy. She hasn't complained about the food so that's a good thing.

Best overall

We're very happy with them. I would say the values gotta be pretty decent but we've never spend this kind of money before and its certainly more expensive than living at home. My mom just said she went out to a luau this past week and said she had a blast. She's going out to lunch a couple of times a week; now she's eating more meals than she's ever eaten before and she's really enjoying being there. Their director, Kari Webster, I got along with her very well, I liked the atmosphere as well and all of the other categories were reasons why we chose Emeritus. The value compared to the other finalist was better so we would be able to keep her there longer and its also more centrally located to us family members and we don't have to drive as far.

What an Excellent Experience

They're ver nice there. I had a little bit of trouble with the care in the beginning but it seems to be worked out now. I think with the tranisition to move in they did a fabulous job to make it easier. They would mount things on the wall, anything to help. They're excellent at finding lost hearing aids! It's really been a good experience. They really work hard to make it a good experience for the residents. The waiters in the dining room, I don't know where they find them, but they are fabulous with little old ladies!

Ease of getting around

We were looking for a community that was more specific to Alzheimer care. The approach they have here at Somerford seemed to be the best approach for our situation. We like that it is a smaller community because we thought a larger community would be confusing and intimidating to someone with Alzheimer. Due to its size it allows for ease of getting around so it is very easy to navigate. Somerford has been great and we would recommend them to anyone.
