AMAZING!

They charged $150 a day for respite and that is very reasonable! The care is great. I just loved them! I loved the convenience of the location, the staff, everybody! I mean the whole place is just so overwhelmingly friendly. My aunt was there and they're excellent. I would recommend this place to the entire world! They are so good. Respite was all I needed it for and it was amazing!

Great in many important areas and not bad with the little touches either!

I found the Fountains of Troy through Shelia at A Place for Mom. My sister and I had been looking for an Assisted Living facility for my 80 year old Mom with mild dementia for over two years all over the Southern IL region and in STL. We also looked at private nursing care. I have toured many places and talked to several AL directors and staff members over the past few years. I can say without hesitation that the Fountains of Troy is the best I've seen. It started with Michele and Stacy, the Director and Site Manager. They were both extremely kind, responsive to our questions and clearly cared about the residents. They were accommodating to my Mom's needs. The rooms are not the largest I have seen but I have seen a lot smaller. They are nicely done though and most rooms have a great view of the pond or cornfield. The have nice bay windows. The Fountains of Troy has a wonderful Activities Director too and there seems to be a lot going on if the residents want to participate. There is sufficient staff and every time I go to visit someone is checking in on Mom or coming to remind about meds. My Mom said the food is "okay" but I have eaten there and the food is very good. What is great about the Fountains of Troy too is that that there are really nice common gathering areas scattered around the place. Right down the hall from my Mom's room is a nice sitting area with a big screened in porch. Overall the price is right too. My Mom is getting level 1 care. Many places have crazy add on's and such that can add up fast.

Extremely accomodating

They were a tremendous facility to work with. I would tell ya that the facilty was great and the people were absolutely wonderful, professionally courteous and they truly bend over backwards to try to make a fit. They did to the extent of actually knocking down a wall and putting a door between the 2 rooms that would allow both my parents to have ample room and so that my father would be able to be in the same complex as my mother. They were so increadibly accomodating, I think they have very frequent transportation to a number of different things that were locally available which was nice also.

Nurses were awesome, not happy with the director

I love the place, it's not really appropriate for me to rate the activities because I took my aunt there for respite and day care. My aunt liked it there and the staff is wonderful, they could improve on communication with administration and the staff, it doesn't seem like they talk to one another. I liked it because of the staff and the presentation, although I can tell you I wasn't very happy with the director. She put on a good front in the beginning, but later on she wasn't very responsible. She didn't respond to my calls and she didn't return my requests to talk to her, so that was disappointing. If it wasn't for Jen I would have stopped going there, she was wonderful and also Sue, she was awesome too, but I was very disappointed with the administrator.

Wonderful volunteer particiaption and memory care

This was a purely memory care facility and it was outstanding. The cleanliness, the quality of the care, the simplicity of the care... They explained to us that they don't have a menu that they're able to pick from, it's just "here's what you're eating today" and if you don't like it they'll make something else for you. They realize that for some people, making these decisions just gets them riled up. They have a lot of groups activities, and one of the things I thought was amazing over here is that they had volunteers coming in to participate in the group activites. One of the times I was there, they had two kids that were in grade school that were playing catch and other games and these kids, their family member passed away like 5 years ago and they still come to visit. The quality of the people there, their pysical and mental state was much farther gone but that's something you come to expect in places like that. One of the things about Autumn Leaves is, since it's privately owned, the price is negotiable.

Best one we've been to

My mother was in assisted living and she deteriorated there, went to rehab, came back here into their dementia ward called "The Willow." She was doing well there but she ended up having a stroke. We were jsut disappointed with what the facility was able to provide. We couldn't go back there after going to the rehab, they kept in touch with the rehab while she was there and it was determined between the two facilities that her condition was such that she wouldn't be a good fit. In my book this place was a 5, it was just a very empathetic, very caring, attentive staff and everybody, when I showed up knew exactly what was going on.

The Gold Standard

My mom loved it her, absolutely loved it. I can't say enough good about them, I have a friend whose parents are still there and love it. It's the gold standard by which we compare all other places to. It was a small facility so everybody knew everybody which was great and it was really really clean. I would highly recommend anybody who was for whatever reason in Paris or moving to Paris to go to Morningside.

Doesn't feel like a nursing home

Its great! It's a 5 with a few little issues. Like maybe the aids don't get there in 3 minutes instead of 10, but they're so understaffed that they can't but my dad loves all the aids and its really good. We got them down quite a bit in the money, the administration helped with that, it was just a process, they wanted us in there so bad they promised us the sky. So far it's good, I would say they allow them to have their trays brought to their room and they don't charge them for that and there were some other things. I feel they did stretch it alot to get us in there but they came through on everything. I was hesitant about coming here as opposed to a place where they could absolutely have more help for my dad; you really have to have someone that is willing to step up and speak their mind, especially with the elderly, because they can't do it.

Best overall

We're very happy with them. I would say the values gotta be pretty decent but we've never spend this kind of money before and its certainly more expensive than living at home. My mom just said she went out to a luau this past week and said she had a blast. She's going out to lunch a couple of times a week; now she's eating more meals than she's ever eaten before and she's really enjoying being there. Their director, Kari Webster, I got along with her very well, I liked the atmosphere as well and all of the other categories were reasons why we chose Emeritus. The value compared to the other finalist was better so we would be able to keep her there longer and its also more centrally located to us family members and we don't have to drive as far.

What an Excellent Experience

They're ver nice there. I had a little bit of trouble with the care in the beginning but it seems to be worked out now. I think with the tranisition to move in they did a fabulous job to make it easier. They would mount things on the wall, anything to help. They're excellent at finding lost hearing aids! It's really been a good experience. They really work hard to make it a good experience for the residents. The waiters in the dining room, I don't know where they find them, but they are fabulous with little old ladies!

Ease of getting around

We were looking for a community that was more specific to Alzheimer care. The approach they have here at Somerford seemed to be the best approach for our situation. We like that it is a smaller community because we thought a larger community would be confusing and intimidating to someone with Alzheimer. Due to its size it allows for ease of getting around so it is very easy to navigate. Somerford has been great and we would recommend them to anyone.

Great tour at Emeritus Property

I toured Emeritus and found it to be a unique community. The cottage style set up was very different and intimate for residents that live there. Everyone seemed happy and well cared for. The landscaping was beautiful. The , patio, rocking chairs and courtyard area were all very inviting. The various apartments shown were adequate to meet the needs of my loved one. The staff were very pleasant and all smiles! From the discussion with staff we found that Emeritus had a great deal of staff longevity which we were impressed by. I always found that happy staff make happy clients.
