Bickford Senior Living

The facility was nice. The facility was a little more costly and a little smaller and more homey feel. We did like that this facility felt more homey and smaller.

We chose Bickford of Spotsylvania because it was far and above others that we looked into, it is almost brand new and it is a beautiful place. The room sizes are standard compared to everywhere else that we looked. It really feels like a home here and I would recommend to others looking.

Our family was able to have an in person tour, and at a time we had a loved one living at Bickford Cedar Falls, and the whole tour and facility was a positive. However, another community we were looking at offered a much better cost for the quality of care being given.

We had a couple of very good tours at Bickford of Middletown. We started out with an online tour first. The online experience was different than in person, so I was glad we did it again in person. I got a much better feel for the facility in person. I had a good overall impression of the facility, and I liked the level of activities they offered. Location played a big part in our decision, and they were just farther away than we wanted. Also, I liked the woman who led the tour, but she was a little pushy in the end.

I would recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The staff have been knowledgeable and understanding of the residents and families. They understood the reasons of the pandemic regulations explained this to the families. My loved one loves all of the activities they have to offer, especially balloon volleyball.

I would tell others to check the community out. the staff are very friendly, and keep in contact with the family regularly. My loved one likes it here. I enjoy that my loved one is here, as well. This community is about the same cost as others I looked at.

Overall we've been pretty pleased. The only downside seems to be on the weekends when they are a little bit less fully staffed and wait times are longer for assistance. I know most places are struggling with staffing now due to the pandemic. So it might be a better place for people who are more ambulatory. Also because of staffing, there don't seem to be structured activities on the weekends outside of mealtimes. But during the week, the activities are good. They try to get the residents to socialize as much as possible. They don't appear to really allow the residents to just sit in their rooms. They do try to draw people out as much as they can, as much as the resident is willing. They do a very good job keeping the facility looking clean and nice as well. It's only a few years old, and really well designed and nicely laid out.

The community is short staffed overall. The overnight shift is shorter than the daytime staff. The food is good and they give the residents a large variety of food. Some of the activities include exercises, games, outings, social activities and more are available for the residents.

Due to the covid restrictions we have not been able to visit the community as much, and due to our loved ones dementia state we cannot rely on her to give feedback over the meals. However, just based on looking off the menu and the food we have seen in person it looks and smells very tasty. The activities have started to pick back up since she has been there, and it just really feels like a home.

Our family had a virtual tour with this community and it was really nice, it had a good set up. However we just thought the person who gave our family the virtual tour was a little to pushy, but the facility was still very nice.

With Covid, we're only just now starting to be able to go in and spend time there. As far as I'm concerned, they've done a very good job with my loved one. Any time I've had any issues, they've always straightened things out. I would recommend it here. Most of the staff are very friendly. There's always that one person here and there, but overall they're very friendly. It always smells very good in there. I know my loved one would like to see more activities than just bingo. They tried to have a country western themed day, and only one other person participated. I feel like the staff should be participating too when they plan those sorts of things.

I would refer others to the community, if you can afford it. It can be pricey. I got a warm fuzzy feeling while I was there. This is because of the staff, decorations, and cooked meals on site. The activities are good here and they change them to assist the residents in being active. The only negative is they kept calling the primary doctor to increase medication to try to control my loved one's dementia. We ended up moving my loved one since the doctor wouldn't increase the medication anymore.

The community is kept neat and clean and the staff is very friendly. The care my loved one receives is good and they have activities available for the residence. I would like to see the food improve. I would recommend this community to others

I think the experience has been very positive. The staff is extremely helpful. My loved one has a cat, and during this time that I haven't been able to visit, they've been very sweet to help her with that and make sure she didn't need any assistance with anything. The front desk has been good overall. They communicate well, especially during this Covid time. I felt they've done a pretty good job of communicating any changes as they've come through. For the most part, very friendly people work there. Every once in a while, you get someone stodgy, but that would be the case anywhere. My loved one is at a lower tier of care, and they've done a good job with her at that level. I think they do pretty good with cleaning. My loved one seems to like the food overall. After a while, there are some things she gets tired of, but I think they do a good job of keeping things interesting. The activities are pretty good. I know they have bingo, light gardening activities when it's nice outside, movie parties, among plenty of other things. My only complaint would be that minor maintenance issues took more time to resolve than I would have liked.

They really have tried their b est to open back the activities, but our biggest complaints would have to be with the food and communication. In the beginning the lack of communication was related to covid, but we felt like they could of done a much better job getting things across to families. When our loved one moved in their was supposed to be an orientation session, but it was stopped with covid. However, we wish they could of had at least a virtual orientation or written material explaining things we did not understand. We did have a great experience with the sales department, but once we were done with them we did not really know who to go to whenever we have questions or concerns.

It was very friendly there, but it seemed that the people in charge - the administrators - kind of went downhill once my loved one moved in. They did not give a lot of feedback about what my loved one was going through, mainly because upon move-in, they didn't tell us she would be quarantined for 5 days. They said they told her, but they did not tell us. So in those 5 days, she had to stay alone in a two-room apartment, and I think that broke her. After she got out and could meet a few people and make friends, then she seemed to enjoy it. She said the food was very good, that they had a lot of choices, and meals included all four food groups. I just wish they had been more upfront about those first five days.

the community is very homey and my parents really like the community. the staff is very friendly and caring. They are very accommodating to the residence, and the community is very clean. The staff go above and beyond and really care about the residence. I would recommend this community to others

Lovely facility, rooms were beautiful. The Alzheimer’s unit was nice but there were only 4 residents so it seemed very quiet. I am removing my mother from a place that has very low census and no activities at all, not sure I can take a chance on another place with low # of residents and staff.

This seems to be a positive environment. It's a small community that allows everyone the feeling they are cared for. Very clean and well kept. Nice presentation.
