Bickford Senior Living

Some of the issues we experienced were with staffing. They didn't have enough help to keep things going some days. My dad passed away last month and their nursing staff was extremely helpful for a few days there. My dad did complain about the food at times as well.

A month after we decided on Bickford, we moved my dad there, and it was a great fit. My dad enjoyed the last six months of his life there, and I was able to visit often. Bickford called me a few times when they didn't think he would make it through the night and I could be with him quickly. There was a lot of staff and management change. My dad's pain medication ran out three times. Thankfully, I had hospice to call.

Our family was happy with the care mom received. The staff was very caring and the community areas were very clean and beautifully furnished. As her health declined, we were able to raise her care level affordably. We picked this community because of the location and cost.

Bickford is a warm and welcoming facility. The building and grounds are very nice and the staff members are very friendly and accommodating. Nothing is 100% but, overall, I am very pleased with the care provided and it is comforting to know that there is someone available 24 hours a day to assist when needed. We toured a couple other facilities before choosing Bickford. Bickford was far superior to the others for around the same price.

There has been staff transitions that have made billing/care more difficult to manage recently. I'm hopeful that once settled things will be back to normal. I would like to mention that [name removed] the resident advocate is absolutely amazing. She's caring, friendly, and always willing to help me navigate any challenges that may arise.

Great people that will take care of your loved one. However, the food leaves a lot to be desired. Maintenance is also under staffed.

The staff has been very helpful, and taken good care of my parents. Unfortunately, they experienced a Covid outbreak shortly after arriving, and that was a very difficult period for my family. They have recently changed their online billing system, which had been a challenge, and I am hopeful that the new system works better.

The staff has been very helpful in providing our mother with the care and the patience she needs transitioning into assisted living. As her dementia has progressed, staff have been reassuring in guiding us as to what to expect on this journey.

It has been a good experience. Highly recommend over others in the area.

They have issues with getting laundry done, bed made, mom showered twice daily, nighttime care. However, based on the experience we have had so far we would recommend this community to other families.

Clean, pleasant smelling facility. Large (and tall ceiling), open community areas and court yards. Good atmosphere. Excellent corporate philosophy (Higher Path). Good Care. Well run, organized (and improvements being made). Great food, excellent chef, w/ meal-time alternatives. Friendly, visible and available management and care workers, med techs. Can schedule transportation for external appointments. Very good activities calendar and director of activities. Plans for more off-site excursions. Management: Executive Director, Nurse and Sales Manager - are very competent and engaged. Billing is straight forward, comparatively affordable - no surprises. I have both parents in this community. One is in assisted living, and the other is in memory care. The Memory Care unit is very bright, clean, orderly, well staffed (and not depressing). The best memory care unit atmosphere we've experienced. MC engagement could improve some. Bickford is the best facility of the 3 we've experienced.

So far I feel like my mom has received good care, other than not always getting her meals. My sister has had to take lunch and dinner to her on occasion, because the kitchen didn’t send anything for her. She is on a gluten-free diet, Which we were told at the time we chose Bickford, that that was not a problem, but that should not Affect whether she gets to eat or not. Otherwise, the staff has been very sweet with my mom.

I really like the facility, the nurses are just wonderful, the staff ate very good. Y only criticism is the CNAs don't seem to keep any schedule of what to do for the residents...emptying garbage, changing clothes, bath days, etc. I'd like the CBAs do a better job. But, we are very pleased overall.

My best thumbs up is to say: The staff cares. Not just the management of the facility, but the aids. Since this is most important, it is the significant determining factor. Followed closely behind is all the staff is approachable. There are items which need improvement. Cleaning the apartment has been a chronic ask. I've brought my owner vacuum twice to show the dirt. Biggest item: Clean the bathroom. Their policy is once a week. I'd be ok with twice a week. Lucky to get once a month. Since I'm there everyday for 6+ hours starting in the afternoon, I do care for my parent: daily hearing aid and glasses cleaning, monitoring/caring for a bottom wound, and occasional shower. I take my parent out occasionally for medical or pleasure. I think my parent has better care as I'm there a significant part of the day. My greatest relief is knowing someone is there when help is needed, calling the facility when my parent calls me instead, and staff calling me if a significant change occurs.

Yes, I would recommend Bickford . It is a smaller community and you're able to get to know everyone in the staff.

Everyone here are so kind, patient, and caring. I feel at ease knowing she is here. Only complaint is with their billing department, so far our first 3 bills have been wrong, they correct it but for those that aren’t observant might be overcharged. The billing department is not on site.

The experience for the most part has been good. Always a few bumps but everything was handled quickly. Hospice has told us we have dad in a good place Bickford of Lancaster.

Overall experience is a 4 it would be a 5, but after my dad passed away in November, Bickford still withdrew payment for December!! I had to go to my bank to get that money back. And it took over 5 months to get a refund for the remainder of November. I had to call and call and call. Finally I had to tell them I would get my attorney involved if I didn't get the refund immediately. Activities, can't rate because my dad never wanted to participate in any. He just liked to sit in his room and watch TV. A couple months after we agreed on a monthly rate and my dad moved in, they increased his rate, citing increasing costs, so a little bit of a disappointment there. So overall, as far as my dad received, and how he was treated and how he liked it there, I'd give Bickford a 5. I just didn't like the way they handled their business office concerning the money.

Our mom was previously a resident at Bickford of Bexley and we were very displeased with the experience. Communication with the family was not good. We went to visit her and it looked like she had not been showered. Her clothes were not clean. Her room was also not clean. There were other things as well.

Meals are not the best especially dinner. We often end up taking my husband out or getting carry out. As for the quality of care it varies by who you talk about. The nurses are excellent. The nurse practitioner is never there and hard to reach. I don't think she visits a resident unless you ask for a visit. We've definitely never seen or heard from the doctor who is supposed to oversee things there. The kitchen staff are mostly helpful but some of the kitchen dinner staff can be rude and uncooperative. We've stopped after dinner and learned all he had was rice because they had fish for dinner and he doesn't like fish. They wouldn't get him a hamburger or hotdog because the kitchen was closed. Overall it's a good fit for him since we see him every day and can fill in the gaps. It is a very comfortable, homelike setting. Overall very nice facility. Could use improvement in menu choices especially at dinner. Nurses and aides are very attentive and cheerful. Really have not seen the doctor or nurse practitioner enough to comment on them.
