Bickford Senior Living

We are very happy with Sunrise. The women keep complaining about being bored. I would like to see some more activities. I love the director, I just think they need more. The physical space was very important. It's small and lighter and cheerier, and happiest, than the other places we saw. The people that work there, are very understanding and are very good. I am quite pleased by that. There are little things, every once in a while they miss little things.

My mother has Alzheimer's disease and could no longer care for herself. We were able to get her in immediately and the care she receives is outstanding. She loves all the caregivers there and is safe in her own surroundings. I am worrying less and getting more rest knowing she is well cared for.

My sister and I checked out many residences for our mom before we decided on the Bickford of St. Charles, Il. The staff there was very friendly and informative when we toured the facility. The place is very clean and feels like an elegant but comfortable home with lots of open gathering spaces and a number of cozy fireplaces. The dining room is decorated very comfortably and each resident is given a menu to choose their meals from. The floor plans for each apartment are roomy and laid out for the convenience of the person living there. The fact that you bring your own furniture to your apartment makes it feel more like home. The rooms have big, bright windows that allow a lot of natural light to enter your space. Housekeeping and laundry service are also provided witch makes it easy for your loved one to live hassle free. Our mom has only been here for two weeks and she is having a few problems with adjusting to her new surroundings but the staff is helping her with that. She is 89 years old and until now has lived on her own. She also has some dementia so things are a little difficult for her, but my sister and I are sure we made the best choice for our moms health, safety, and well being by choosing the Bickford.

IT was a very good tour. We did not choose this location because they had a waiting list. It is also a large facility

They seem to have sufficient staff, however, while 2 staff were in the room my mother fell and staff had to be told to call an ambulance due to Mom hitting her head while taking xaralto. They maintain a sufficient level of activity for residents. It was difficult for my mother to eat meat at this facility as it often was too tough to chew. Cleanliness was never an issue, and the apartment was a sufficient size. Mom was a resident for approximately a month prior to an illness that led to her death. In my opinion, this facility was better than approximately 95% of the facilities she could have gone to live.

The staff at The Bickford is kind to my wife. She is clean and does not smell like urine. My wife eats the food and appears to like it. The unit is clean. The number of residents is small so my wife gets plenty of attention. She has a room to herself. It is kept clean. The administration has been helpful when there was a problem getting autopay set up. I don't know about activities.

The place is clean. Overall. They take care of my moms laundry very routinely Room size is great. Staff has been great. During the night some nights she is not checked in as much as suppose to be. Nurses are wonderful. Activity Director is awesome. My mom says for is always the same but that's my mom. Looks fine to me. When I see them preparing it it looks wonderful

I would give our short time (2 weeks) there 4 stars. Staff was emphatic and patient. There's just not enough of them. The food was a good mixture of items. Lunch and dinner often included soup, a salad, main entree, vegetables and a dessert. Water or juice to drink. Apartment size is adequate. Our choice was to bring in a queen size bed with an adjustable head and foot. The bed takes up more room than other residents' rooms with single beds. There was still room for a dresser and a chair for him to sit while watching television. Bathroom is large. Can move around with enough room for a walker. Shower is large-we have a transfer seat in it so he does not need to stand up. There are activities but my husband wouldn't participate.

My sister likes it there. I just want to make her happy in the time she has left. Help always friendly. She is well taken care of. I had supper with her, food was good! [Name Removed] is there for me, when I have questions. My sister has gained some weight, she is walking with help. Good place for her to be at this time!

He had a bad experience with first roommate. A few hiccups along the way. I believe they could some more help. They weren't using call lights. He fell and went to the hospital and needs more care than he can get at Bickford at this time. Overall, I would use their facility again.

Not enough care givers. They don't seem to let different shifts know what is going on. I was total that my mom would receive PT and memory care activities, so far have not seen anything!

The facility was secure and our in and out activity was comfortable. We had good interaction with medical and diet teams. Management was responsive.

We first met with Makenna on a Tuesday to discuss moving my sister there. Then we returned on Wednesday with my sister and went through the whole tour again. My sister also was evaluated at that time. The facility is older than the others we toured, but it was very clean and roomy. The dining room is a beautiful place with the high ceiling and skylights. All of the staff we met were very friendly.

They have been super helpful in making Nola feel welcome and dealing with her dementia issues. Her apartment is just the right size for her now, she's in a one bedroom. She is eating well and loves the food. The staff have been very accommodating when I need to bring belongings in to her room or take things out. My only issue has been some communication issues but that hasn't happened often.

Administration has been weird since they are trying to hire a new manager there. But they are getting better but they have been helpful. Food dad says is great. They been working with what dad makes and once his VA paperwork is finally done. They lost it during management change. I just got it back last week. Then his rent with go up. It's been a high turnover since January when he moved in.

The staff, specifically [name removed], did a great job hosting us and made my mom, who was very uncomfortable with the idea of living at an assisted living facility, feel comfortable and more relaxed. We really appreciated the time and attention of everyone at Bickford.

The staff care is highly personalized with only about 35 residents. The staff is friendly and attentive and there are different activities each day.

Bickford is older, and perhaps slightly more worn than most of the places I've looked at, but what they call apartments, are actually small apartments with separate rooms. I find that very appealing, in that it feels more like a complete home within the apartment. And, there is a possibility that I will be able to secure a bathtub for my mother within the facility. The only one that I found so far, and it is an important detail for her. Everyone that I spoke with there was very friendly and informative. and because they do not separate senior living, assisted living and memory Care, it seems to me that it will be a better overall environment for my mother who is slipping into substantial memory problems, because she will be provided a greater opportunity to interact with other people at varying levels. Overall, I was very impressed with Bickford.

Love that you stay in your apartment even if you need to start getting memory care. No separate wing/ floor for memory care. Small enough facility that the administrators know every resident very well and are available daily

I would give them a solid 4. We moved my mom in when they were in the midst of some staff turmoil. Didn't really get an orientation or anything that first day and it made it a stressful few days. But they have worked hard to smooth things out for us. Food/dining=5 The food is fresh, the menus are varied, and it's of good quality. I've tried it and my mom loves it. Activities=4.5 [name removed] is great and offers a variety of things each week. My mom is not a "joiner" but does like to participate in the walking group and most things that involve food. [name removed] continues to invite her every time. Cleanliness/room/apartment size=4 I feel they do a good job with cleaning and laundry and my mom likes her room. Quality of care/Staff= 4 I find the staff to be friendly and helpful. They answer all of my questions and have been very responsive and supportive. My mom says everyone is nice to her and they offer to help her. They listen to her and love hearing her stories and laughing with her. I wish they could get her to shower more often, but I know they are working on it. Overall, we feel Bickford Cottage has been a really good move for my mom and her physical health is improving since moving there. Her memory won't really get better, but everything is working to keep her as healthy as possible. She is eating better, getting her medication as needed, and has someone to talk to whenever she is feeling social. We feel it has been a great move for her!
