I toured this community twice, once by myself and once with my loved one. They changed the price and tried to use a hard sell tactic of you need to sign up now before the price goes up even more....that was a big turn off.

After unfortunate circumstances that forced a close relative to leave because the room was not safe to inhabit, management agreed to refund the days he couldn't stay. They delayed for weeks, and then payed only 5/8 of the amount agreed on, in spite of about 20 reminders, defaulting on the rest. Very shabby treatment all in all, and the experience in total left an ugly final impression.

Nice facility but horribly maintained. Services and amenities that were promised have never been delivered. Administration is weak, unresponsive, out of touch, and simply don't care. Go somewhere else.

My loved one was only there for 2 weeks and then she passed away. My loved one was always very willful and I don't think they were able to handle her personality - I felt she was more than a challenge for them. After being sent to the ER, she was going to be placed on hospice, but they refused to take her back which was very upsetting. She later passed away in the ER.

the staff that works at the inn are wonderful from the management and below. Ready care is not great. Food service is wonderful a little to much salt at times

They are extremly understaffed, do not have enough people. It's an open community, and does not feel not as secure and safe for your loved one. Consider, if your loved requires additional services,then this might not be the right place.

I am a resident here and am saddened by the amount of residents who have moved out of StoryPoint Portage. Most have been unhappy for quite some time and finally made the decision to enjoy the rest of their life at a different facility.

We did intensive research on Senior Star. Was perfect. The day we were told when my spouse would be released I went to sign the contract. At that time I was told that it was sold to Story Point. Star was fully staffed, their smiling faces assured us that they were happy employees. Observing their positive interactions with residents was heart warming. Gradually the positive attitudes changed. Employees were quitting. Staff is overwhelmed causing a stressful environment. Management obviously is destroying a once wonderful place to live. It is heart breaking.

The rent here is quite expensive for what you get. They say that these are luxury apartments and they are, however, the maintenance is very lacking. If you put in a request, it takes months for things to be done. We have security lights outside of the building and I brought it up 6 months ago because it was completely dark around the building at night and we did not feel safe. I got 9 of them fixed, but there are still 4 of them out and one is for the biggest parking lot at the building. At night, it makes you not want to leave. It took us years to get them to clean the common area furniture that people are on every day. My apartment is very nice, but there is no food, no medical, it is totally independent living. My air conditioning has gone out already twice this season and it takes forever them to fix. We have a manager on site Monday, Wednesday, and a half day Friday and that is it. Overall it has been a very disappointing experience.

this is a nice community and the tour went well. The aids here are not very good, if you need care for a patient I would not recommend this community. It is not a licensed facility like other communities.

We were surprised at the lack of community within this facility. It seems to just be a standalone apartment building next to a highway with a neighborhood backed up behind it. We toured three different locations over the weekend and feel Story Point got last place. Friendship Village was the winner in all areas. The layout was much better, but more importantly, there were many things my father would be able to do to keep him busy right on site. He’s most excited about the swimming pool. Several of our family members looked over reviews for various facilities, and were concerned with all the similar reviews left for Story Point by residents. We didn’t find that type of duplication with the other places we toured. That would lead us to believe that maybe StoryPoint is trying too hard? Just a thought.

It's not ideal for those who have a loved one who has dementia yet is younger than 60. They don't have a staff that is educated on specific types of dementia. Communication can be very difficult. When looking at costs, be very specific to find out what exactly they are including. The front people are very nice. But the staff who are there in the evenings are not very friendly at all. However, there is one shift manager who is really nice. The executive chef is really nice as well. My loved one does not like the food, but they try really hard. They just don't have ethnic types of foods that we're used to, but they're willing to listen to your suggestions. Because of Covid, they have been understaffed, and unfortunately many of the residents have had to endure sitting in their own waste. And you could smell it in the hallway at an overpowering level. Sometimes they would leave the garbage sitting out in the hallway for quite a while as well.

Our family did have a nice tour but the location was just to far away from us. However it was a little upsetting at first - we walked in with our masks on and someone at the front door yelled at us saying we couldn't come in even though we had a tour schedule. So it was just a little off putting for us.

We came for a visit from the Chicago area and were very disappointed. The location is not what the advertising suggests. The building is near a very busy freeway on one side and a vacant home on the other. The person we spoke with on the phone weeks prior at another location ( [name removed] I believe) sounded more like a used car salesman than someone we would trust with our loved one, so we didn't want to be tied down to a high-pressure tour. We visited a former neighbor there "undercover" I guess you could say. This type of environment might be great for someone who stays in their apartment, as there isn't much to do according to the sweet lady resident we spoke with, but definitely not right for our MIL. We wasted a day trip, but were glad we checked thing out.

Our loved one was ignored repeatedly for sometimes 12 to 14 hours when they were supposed to be receiving around the clock care. Our loved one sometimes would not get their meals during the evenings due to the staff being extremely staffed. The staff to patient ratio was completely off. We hired and outside care giver to stay with our loved one during the day from 9AM-3PM and sometimes when they could go in the next day at 9AM, they could tell no staff members checked on our loved one once the care giver left.

So far it is not really what our loved one and family expected, the day our loved ones moved in it was bought by StoryPoint, so there are a lot of changes. They are still in the process of looking for a new chef to improve the food, and we are hoping when the management settles down and gets into routine everything will improve.

The facility was too small especially for how expensive it is.

Our family had a tour schedule and when we drove passed it, we noticed all the shutters on the outside were in disarray. The building needed a good amount of repairs, and based on the exterior look we did not want to go inside and see the interior.

We moved into a nice independent living unit in August 2021. Three weeks later, we decided to move out. Almost every employee does their best, but they cannot overcome lack of staff and general miscommunication between departments. Food is excellent on some days, but barely edible on other days. I cannot say anything about the housekeeping, because we never received any (despite repeated promises from management). Our requests for maintenance mostly went unanswered. The facility looks very nice, but looks can be deceiving. If you like to be disappointed, you will love it here.

turnover very high and most of the aids are from outside agencies. How can they be trained in dealing with dementia? they cant. Don't bother with a Care Plan, its not followed or read. Just a couple of good people the rest are there for a paycheck and spend time conversing with each other instead of the residents. Poorly managed. Great salespeople but level of care touted was not there. We are looking for another memory care facility for mom now, we won't stay.
