The food is not good and it feels like they are charging a lot of $ and try to increase the costs while scrimping on services which felt like a bait and switch. They were very hit and miss with delivering my mom's cup of meds to her consistently and that was worrisome and infuriating and obviously not optional and they now charge [fee removed] a month for that care cost and that's the lowest level. It is in a great location, it looks like a boutique hotel, and there is a high staff turnover but everyone is cheery and energetic for the most part. They promise weekly apartment cleaning, they will do your laundry if you want them to, and they do daily trash removal and are supposed to be making the bed daily. The cleaning lady is a 10. The laundry is a 5 because it's convenient but they don't take care with the clothes they just throw them in the washer and then the dryer. You can use the laundry room yourself which is what my mom does. The bed making is a 1 because it rarely happens. There are only 66 residents which is great and they have a decent number of activities which my mom is mostly enjoying. They used to have a shuttle that would take them wherever they wanted to go within 6 miles I think, and there were weekly trips that alternated between groceries/target and excursions to local restaurants. The new owners nixed that which is awful. My mom looked at 3 places this was the nicest by a MILE. We looked at 2 others in her price range and they were both run down and depressing. There were just people in various states of awareness just hanging about the ground floor in wheelchairs and and walkers with no one attending them. The area with the TV seemed like more of a prison entertainment area . Just a TV mounted on the wall with a bunch of scattered metal folding chairs. Very stark. StoryPoint (my mom's place- formerly The Sheridan) does have a screening room and it's got leather club chairs and a big screen. Feels like a really nice home theater. I do wish my Mom had wanted to look at more places in vicinity but I think the experience was overwhelming and depressed her. So, I think it is one of the nicest places in the area. I think rent before care costs is around [fee removed] a month. Supposedly the nicest in the area is All Seasons which is in a great location in downtown Birmingham but I've heard it starts a [fee removed] just for rent. So, my mom's is probably one of the best in the new area but my sister and I and the residents feel like they are taking advantage of seniors and prioritizing profits over patients well being.

I would highly recommend except the food is so bad it might keep me from recommending this location.

Staff turnover is ridiculously frequent! They need to get better food and preparation. They do not cater to special diets. I am gluten-free and they were not very familiar with it nor did they have much to serve me. I also know that one resident had to be gluten free and their family had to bring in the food for them because the staff could not accommodate them.

I didn't care for the caregiver that was sent to take care of my wife & no I would not recommend them!

There have been many staff turnovers since my mom moved in there. From the chef all the way up to the management. We have not been happy since the management change. The food has decreased in flavor and portion size. There are several repairs waiting to be done in my mom's apartment and they are not being taken care of. The cost increases every year. They even changed their TV lineup so they don't get as many channels as they did before. I probably would have chosen a different facility if I knew all these things were going to happen.

First, I want to mention that Aurora Pond was in the process of changing ownership/management when my mom moved in. We didn't know that was in the works & may have chosen another place if we did. There was confusion & chaos from day 1, including that her apt had not been cleaned as promised when we showed up with Mom & all her possessions. As managers, my two sisters and I understood the problems a mgmt change can bring up, so we picked our battles and tried to be patient. Mom has been there 3 months now, so I feel I am better able to assess. Some original and most helpful staff are gone, food quality, service and choices aren't as good as initially, cleaning seems to be making some forward progress and chaos is settling down. Cleanliness is a 2+ as we can see some effort to improve. Quality of care is a 5. The on staff nurses have been helpful and attentive. Food is a 3. Mom initially enjoyed most all options. More recently, she started skipping breakfast because she said choices weren't tasty. Sometimes servers skip tables at beginning of service, so meals are late and cold/dry. Activities is a 4, although Mom hasn't chosen to participate much yet. Value for the money is a 3+. Nursing on site has helped in 2 instances, which we are very relieved & grateful for. Lack of cleaning people & tasks going undone is a problem. Food & food service has gone downhill since the mgmt change. Hopefully improvements will continue to be made.

When we were there the nursing staff was absolutely terrible. She never got her meds on time and the wellness director up and quit with no notice and it was a huge mess. The other staff was good with the exception of the director. Activities weren't advertised well and often times were missed because of that.

I'll start by saying [name removed] is no longer at Storypoint. We moved her before a month was up. Overall experience - The place is nice. Unfortunately, [name removed]was put into a category between senior living and assisted care, which were mislead in thinking she was in assisted living. Once we realized this, we had difficulties with the person in charge of her health care, which she wasn't receiving. Storypoint is very clean, exceeded expectations. Most of the staff was very friendly. Meals and dining were top notch. Not many activities and [name removed] was not informed enough to participate. Disappointed. Quality of care was not satisfactory. Again, whether the place was misrepresented or we misunderstood the total of her health care because she was not in assisted living. Issues would not be resolved so we decided to move [name removed] to another place. The cost for rent was within reason, the cost for extra care with Corso Care was way more expensive that initially quoted to is. Plus, [name removed] actual medical needs were not met. She's 94, needed much more care than what was offered. I wish it had worked for [name removed] at Story Point. I would recommend the place, the Manager and young lady who sold us into it were both very professional and nice. The girl in charge of Corso care, not so much. Their assisted living section was offered, but after dealing with Corso Care, we said no way. I think they need to remove the level between senior living and assisted living. It's very confusing to both the resident (especially with dementia) and the person paying for the care, especially the actual health care they will or will not receive at this level.

The residents are very welcoming and helpful. Activities need attention. There is only one person doing the activities, while friendly, they need more help. Food has a lot to be desired. When talking to the residents the food quality is their biggest complaint.

The standard base rental fee includes minimal assisted services. Required to turnover medication and then they add a surcharge taking it up by $[removed] a month. This should have been part of the basic package for assisted living and especially since they require you to turn it over. Staff is very nice, however they do not have highly trained care staff because they pay too low to attract CNAs. Gone down to one nurse on staff, who is excellent by the way. They also experience a lot of turnover due to the pay. Shower installed incorrectly causing water to rush out of shower pan onto floor, creating a trip hazard. This is an entire building problem. Hired very responsive maintenance person who is committed, but this issue is structural. Unable to access the facility before 8:30 and after 7pm limiting access to my Mom. Location is close to family. Facility is fairly new so interiors are more modern looking. We were able to paint the rooms to make them feel more like home.

The staff seem friendly. However my mom complains about the food quality and lack of activities at the facility. Some of that is on her because they do offer some exercise classes and cards that she is not interested in. But they could make sure to have daily activities for those that aren't interested in those two.

Overall we were just disappointed over what we were "sold" versus reality. Also in the 10 months that she was there the facility had three different Executive Directors, with a 4th one coming in just as we were preparing to move her out. I think (from observations not from knowledge) there were a lot of internal issues. This last guy seemed all about fixing it, so hopefully he'll be able to do that. Assisted living was always understaffed and had a lot of turnover, not ideal for working with elderly people with their own peculiar routines and requirements. I hope they can get it together, the potential is there, we were just not at the right time.

I would recommend to others. She got good, safe care. Expensive. The place I moved her too is [removed] less a month and all other items are equal except they get her to participate and it is closer to my home.. Very nice staff and administrator but allowed my mom to stay in her room 24/7 and not interact. I was and am her guardian. Served her every meal in her room. I asked them to get her out of room but they told me it was her choice. Ended up moving her closer to where I live and she is doing great. I don't know how much the home could have done but it would have been nice of them to try.

It was challenging for the first year, we had issues with room cleanliness and often, my Mother was not clean. After a few meetings with the Director and brining in outside Hospice, this has all improved. In addition, there is a language barrier with some of the aides

The facility is very good. Staff has a constant turnover, although that has gotten better in the last six months. Quality of staff is much improved compared to August 2022.

Mom has been living in the independent living section for several years. Over the past 2 years things have markedly declined. Meals have declined, you are lucky to have a nice meal 2 days a week. People are very nice, but it is clearly being run for profit, and it is expensive. Things break in the apartments and don't get fixed. Maintenance workers are sub par. Problems with heat and AC continue into year 2 now. Windows not sealing took a year to get someone who knew what they were doing. This is no longer a 5 star place

We would recommend with the caveat that they are still working through start up staffing issues. But beautiful facility

I moved mom from there to vineyards after a few months. Lack of staffing, no operating van the entire time for external trips or activity. She has since passed. Provision just had some bugs to work out bring a new location. Staff were very kind and cared. Apartments are very nice and lots of light.

My loved one was previously a resident at StoryPoint Troy. She was at their highest acuity. Because I asked for assistance twice to get her out of my vehicle, they increased her fees beyond their highest acuity. My loved one said that the food was okay, but nothing special. Overall, we just did not believe that the value was there. The nurses and aides were great.

Activities fair looking to make as much money from you as possible that is their goal. That is the corporate goal you were treated sometimes as children always in control.
