The food does not meet standards for well balanced meals. The chef is using recipes she's never tried before and they seem to run out of food frequently. Even basics like coffee. They are replacing the elevator and there's no way to get residents from the 2nd and 3rd floor out without carrying them in some fashion or calling the fire department. Meals are being delivered and what they ordered from the provided menu are not being delivered. I called and left a message for the GM or AGM and still have not received a call back yet. I cannot recommend this place yet.

Overall, the experience was ok. We felt that with our loved one being such a people person. He didn't get enough human interaction, felt isolated and depressed. When he was moved to [name removed], he perked up because he had more people to interact with. The Pella facility was a beautiful place, but the memory care unit was just too isolated for him since he wasn't a tv watcher necessarily.

Unfortunately it isn't good now that Story Point took over. We each go to Visit her 1-2 times per week at different times during the day. No activities anymore. Staff turnover in memory care is at an all time high, in fact there is very little staff compared to when it was Atria and they have raised our rates by 50%. Not worth it. I would not recommend this place. We loved it and so did my Mom when it was Atria but now that it's Story Point to be honest the empires care area sucks.

Overall experience is good I would just like more activities in assisted living. I love living here and seeing my friends everyday.

The location is perfect. It's near shopping and restaurants. Don't expect the food to be good or the menu to be very diverse. They do offer "light housekeeping" but are unable to keep the staff the do it. We found ourselves having to empty our own trash and clean the space for our loved one because there was no one there to do it. We were paying for "light housekeeping" that just didn't happen. Additionally we needed things fixed and light bulbs replaced. We ALWAYS had to ask multiple times. My loved one had her toilet overflowed. She reported it at 8am and at 5pm called me because her toilet wasn't fixed. I ended up fixing the toilet and then cleaning the mess. My loved one had to use the bathroom down the hall. My loved one is physically disabled, so this was disappointing.

The person who is the POA or health advocate needs to frequently have open conversations about the care their loved one is receiving. Ask lots of questions and stay on top of care team. Folks need to remember their loved one is not the only person in the facility and things may take longer then one expects. Danbury is not a day care they provide basic services but they cannot dedicate lots of time with just one client. Families need to participate and visit often to keep loved one happy.

Independence Village of Avon Lake is fine for independent living but their care of my mother is sub par. We worry for her safety and health there in assisted living.

The cleanliness was awful when our loved one moved in. Like the worst college apartment. the staff were friendly but follow through was terrible. Never participate in the activities. This place uses the cheapest materials. If they did did actually fix something, it was broke again soon after. Room for improvement is ironic, since they are just charging more now that they are Story Point and doing less. Their in house home health company was charging FIL for services they did not do, days they did not come.

Beautiful facility good room setup. My mom really liked the people who took care of her needs daily- good people. I gave it a 3 overall because they really hyped the medical care aspect. Although my mom was weak with heart failure- they did not assist at all finding her a new cardiologist locally, or finding her a family practitioner. We had to do this all on our own ; it was very difficult because we were new to the area. I would make sure people who need specialized care know this going in. The doctors they say are present to serve the residents are very scarce- kind of a total scam with saying that. My mom died a month after moving in. She did not get the medical maintenance we were led to believe- whether we were snowed or had a misperception would be up for debate.

The director was the only positive, but she was busy in her office. The price changed within 2 days from my telephone conversation and signed documents until arrival two days later. It was their mistake. A previous employee quoted me an amount, I signed, then they tried to say he was wrong. Long story. Director corrected it, but billing could not get it right for 2 months. We ended up leaving. Gave notice within 30 days and never got deposit back as was stated we would in contract. The director was new, the staff was new, the office/billing were old. No communication between the two. Very frustrating to deal with.

It's a nice place, staff friendly , expensive. We picked this community because it was close to my home, good reputation, largeness of rooms, and food service.

Just passed my one year anniversary. The management is not honoring their promises.

They always seem to be short on staff. As far as the food goes, I would love if the chef made real hash browns. Also, real fried potatoes would be good too.

Health care in general has gone to hell. My dad died shortly after being moved there. We were pressured to go on hospice so we could get all the help he needed... we were told people can live for a long time on hospice but unfortunately that's not how it went down. I am definitely not looking forward to getting old.

They went through a change of ownership from Anthology to StoryPoint. When the acquisition started, the Anthology staff basically stopped working. We are getting better. Getting their room cleaned has been okay with the new owners, but we have high standards so we clean additionally. Main areas are always spotless. The newer staff is great--they have raised the pay rate so the employees are better. They are independent so I don't know about quality of care. The new chef is great! Super accommodating! They just let the activities person go and got a new one. The new one has already made so many great changes in the last three weeks. Again, with the new owners everything is improving, especially this. Because I have two parents there, it's actually inexpensive. However, I understand how it would be seen as expensive compared to value for cost. But I have faith in StoryPoint that they will make it a great value.

The best way I can thin tko describe StoryPoint is a clean, bright, cheerful but tedious place to live. Every aspect of daily living is its own entity / billing and tracking it is a nightmare. Care is piecemeal / ala carte and while they are very accommodating, we find we have to closely monitor what we paid for vs services actually rendered as many have been missed or not rendered as described. Dinner is included in your rent but breakfast and lunch are not and it’s almost impossible to track your spending and reconcile it with what you’re charged. Adding on services adds another service to track and these too have been missed. Even the services that “come with your rent” need to be tracked to ensure you are getting the services you pay for. Billing, for care or facility, is not itemized and has been wrong more than once. Remediation plans are quick but follow through is lacking, leaving the residents to track yet another aspect of living there.

Good at first, deteriorated. Poor by end . One month after move-in Mom broke femur and ended up in nursing home. Moved her belongings out at end of February. She passed [date removed] in nursing home. The cleanliness and friendliness of the staff is good as well as the care services and meals and dining. The activities did not seem challenging enough for functional level.

Under staffed at times, meals are great! Front desk are very friendly and helpful management has turned over twice since we have been here.

We took our loved one out of there after 7 months. We became aggravated at the inability to provide consistent care, monitor it and have a system to know if it was done. We had several meetings with the management to go over progress and despite their best efforts, it became evident that we would be better off in another place. I am sure it is a great facility for some people, but it did not work for us. Before moving here, or any other facility, one needs to have a very clear understanding of the services being charged for and how they are tracked. All of the people at IVW that we came across were fantastic. Some of the systems could be improved.
