My loved ones meals are all included in her rent; they'll say, "We are having spaghetti & meatballs, garlic toast and sherbet", but then there's no garlic bread or it's only one meatball and it's little. They'll say, "we are out" or it didn't come in, well then don't put it on the menu. They don't have low carb or sugar-free cranberry juice. I'm going to store and buying bananas, apples, milk and sugar-free syrup because they forget to bring it with pancakes or waffles. My mom is extremely frustrating with the quality of the meals. Over the last six weeks she's been there, she has raved about the food being good about 3-4 times. I know their chef quit so I get that, but if she asked them to bring her ketchup for her fries, it shouldn't take half an hour for them to go from her table to the kitchen (which is right there). By the time they get back, her fries are cold. A lot of people in that place are diabetic, but they don't have diabetic friendly food. With the high carb or high sugar you'd think they'd offer 1% or skim milk. I've told her that she should ask them to bring her a banana because food is included. It's not good; it's gross or bland. It's better than her previous place, but not where I'd like it to be and not what I was led to believe. If you need something fixed you have to harp on them. She has been there 6 weeks and her closet racks and shelving have not been fixed. They put grab a bar at the back of her shower, but she has a shower chair so she cant go in that way. We asked on the first day for it to be moved, and it still has not been done. They should fix that stuff within a reasonable period of time, 6 weeks & counting is not reasonable. That's almost 2 months and it should have been done before she even moved in, as well as the closet issue. For the first 3 weeks she didn't have any hot water, it would run for 15 minutes and it still wouldn't get hot. They've just replaced all of the tanks because she wasn't the only one complaining, but that shouldn't take a month for results, They are just not very proactive. Their head maintenance guy was on vacation for 2 weeks when she moved in. Little stuff like that is irritating, and they don't have very much storage. She has a nice kitchen with plenty of cabinet space, but there is only one closet in the kitchen that can be used as a pantry. There's only 2 shelves, but there's room for 5. So we had to buy her a wardrobe pantry to give her more storage. I know old people don't have a lot of storage, but my mom uses depends and feminine products and she has to stock up on those because they've stopped taking them to stores because of Covid. They just announced last week that it will start back up. For two months since she's been there, there's been no means to take her somewhere. She is paying over [price removed] a month. Her apartment is nice and spacious with lots of natural light, and the apartment itself is fantastic, but she should have hot water and that's only happened this week. So from end of June until a couple days ago, she's had to take a cold showers. The other day she clogged the toilet so she pressed the button and asked for help, it was in the evening time when a girl came by and said, "I have a master key but I cant get to the plunger". Another girl came back in the morning and said that's not true as they do have access to the plunger. So I had to buy one and that didn't make me happy, that's laziness. I went and looked at that place twice. The kitchen smelled fantastic and looked delicious. You'd see them plating the food, but then that guy quit so they had to find someone else. I don't know who's doing the cooking now, but some of the food is coming out burnt like brussels sprouts or steamed broccoli that's so hard to the point to where it cant be cut. If no one complains, it wont get any better. They've only been open for 3.5 years, so it is new and modern, but whoever is cooking doesnt know how to. when she moved in they were on a Covid lockdown, so they'd bring their food in Styrofoam containers which is bad for the environment. Laundry is horrible - they have a laundry bag that I could fit two of me in, and they expect my mother who has a walker, to drag that out into the hallways. When it comes back, it's all separated by color and linens that are wrapped in cellophane, instead of having the clothes folded, which is bad for the environment. It comes back wrinkled and sometimes not dry and yes she could hang it up, but my point is old people are not as agile. They drop it on the floor in the hallway, and its difficult for her to bend over. I know there are a lot of units and residents so I know they are trying to do things cheaply and efficiently, but there has to be better way. They come and change her sheets every week and she has a queen sized bed, so it takes up a lot of room in her bag, its heavy. As well as clothes, towels, etc. and that bag is so big that I myself have trouble lifting it. Whereas, if they would have 3 bags per apartment and maybe one for sheets - then I think it would be a better situation. Her previous place had different laundry bags for lights, darks, delicates, etc. She would separate everything herself in the netted laundry bags and they would come into her room and get the bags. When they came back, they'd still be in the mesh bag all folded neatly. Not wrapped in plastic wrapped, the plastic wrap they use here is about the size of a basketball per resident and that's horrible for the environment and extremely wasteful. There's got a better way to do their laundry. The community is new, it's bright and her apartment is a good size, its about twice the size of her previous community. It's a more modern facility, the people are friendly and the staff are friendly, but some of them are just lazy and I get that you will have that everywhere - but, you cant plunge her toilet? Her toilet was getting a ring inside and she asked them to clean it, they said they couldn't do that either with no explanation behind it, so I had to go out and buy a toilet brush and cleaner. This is the stuff that should be included in her rent, she shouldn't have to buy things unless she wants something like caviar. They should have sugar free syrup or 1% milk, they should be able to give her an apple or grapes or fruit in general. I shouldn't have to go buy those things, its not ok that she's spending a couple hundred a month on food as they don't have it or are too lazy to bring it to her. They have all these things on the menu and over half the time, they're not available. So what's the point of having a menu? The menu is printed a week in advance, so there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to go get things on the menu if they don't have it. I can count on one hand how many times mom said lunch or dinner was good out of 6 weeks. She has dietary restrictions, there are things she cant have, but there are so many different things that she can have. I'm sure there are other people in that facility who also have dietary restrictions, I would bet that over half of them are diabetic - so shouldn't they cook for diabetics? Its so frustrating because she's trying to watch her weight and sugar, but its hard to do so. When they bring her stuff it often comes in Styrofoam containers and cups that are disposable. I have to buy milk when they forget to bring it with her cereal, or butter when they forget to bring it with her toast, things like that. She does have a full sized fridge and I liked the idea that she can buy things if she wants, but she or I shouldn't have to be buying food, because that's what she's paying for. She's also paying for care, so I'd expect that they would clean her toilet, or have access to a plunger. I'd also expect that if there's an issue that someone would come and plunge the toilet. StoryPoint is a very nice place, but there are some really big sticking points. She is happy there, which is a huge plus.

The staff members at Atria River Trail are very caring and friendly and the community itself is very modern looking. The residents here resembled our loved one the best which was one of the main reason we picked Atria. The adopt what is called the social model so the residents before being accepted with go through a screening to see if they would be a good fit for this community or not

Glen Abbey is a brand new facility and it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL - we could not believe how nice it was. Unfortunately it would have been about a 35 minute drive for us and that was just too far. The area in Canton it is in is also pretty congested, especially during rush hour times so it would have been harder to get to.

I do wish they could have an activity plan for each of the weekend days - because there is not much going on those days. They have had some staffing issues but I know that is across the board with these types of facilities. I would recommend Ludington Woods to others looking for memory care.

The gal who was giving us the tour was WONDERFUL and so nice. When we were walking around though, the other staff members would not make eye contact with me or greet me. It just did not seem like they liked their job and these were the people who would have been taking care of mom. I liked the look of the facility itself but I did not love the room, they were outdated and more institutional feeling.

The activities are absolutely wonderful! However the meals and dining service can use some improvement we hear a lot of complaints from residents surrounding the meals. When our loved one first moved in they had a really great chef that made all these wonderful meals and now the meals are just kind of "yuck." It is a nice community but could use a little tweaking here and there.

Anthology of Farmington Hills was not open yet, so we toured in the sales office. The staff we met were fine, and Anthology was our second choice. They just simply weren't open yet during the timeframe we needed them, and the location was farther from our family.

Friendly staff. New ownership, so I don't know what will be changing, if anything. They did repair parking lot issues. The facility is about 15-18 years old. Some renovating may be in order? They have eliminated the bus. Not sure if this is permanent. That is an issue for some residents. And it was a good "selling point" for the community. Allow the chef to have "healthy choice options" labeled and marked on the menus.
