We are very disappointed in Elmcroft, there is not enough staff members to help with our loved ones. They are not very friendly and act like your bothering them when you have a question. Showers are not given when they are supposed to, our loved one always looks like they just woke up, the same clothes have been on for days . Seems like everyone is just sitting in their rooms with their door open, without having nothing to do. Also way to expensive !!

Not for everyone.

My mom moved there after suffering a stroke. When we arrived on her move-in day, the receptionist who was supposed to give us the key to her room was clueless; she had no idea about my mom's arrival or where the key was. It took about 20 minutes, with the receptionist calling different people, for her to find the key. We later asked the receptionist what time breakfast was served the next day (Sunday). She said breakfast ended at 10 a.m. My siblings arrived on Sunday at 9;30 to have breakfast with Mom. When we got to the dining room, it was closed. Breakfast had ended at 9:30. We also observed signs up about all activities being cancelled due to the residents being sick. Four days later, my mom caught the illness (gastroenteritis) and had to be hospitalized for 3 days. She came back to FM after being discharged. When my mom moved in, she did not have the strength in her hand to unlock her door. She was almost in tears and said she could not leave her room for fear of being locked out. After several days, I asked the staff to change the lock to one that did not require so much strength. This is when they offered to put a "pistol grip" on her key that made it easier to unlock. Of course that worked, but why did they not issue the key with that grip. After all, FM is intended for elderly residents and problems with the key must be common. My mom told me that one morning when she went to breakfast, there was none. No employees showed up. Two weeks after my mom moved in, she wanted to go home. She hated it. She felt isolated and miserable. So, we moved her back home and made other arrangements. Now FM is insisting that she pay for two months of rent PLUS the non-refundable move-in fee of $3600. In other words, $10,200 for living there for 10 days. So, be warned.

The facility is beautiful, but the level of care doesn't match the facility.

The facility is beautiful, but the level of care doesn't match the facility. They have had a huge staff turnover. There have been a lot of problems with communication, and things that they said would be available, not being available. Everyone is friendly for the most part, but there are some professionalism issues. Especially with the med tech, and pitting the family against the resident. Saying your family member wants you to do this. You have to be right on top of it at all times. Services are not happening when they are supposed to. The food is fair, I have heard other places are better, the chicken can be quite dry and the food is tough to cut, there isn't a lot of variety, and the portions are small. The activities happen a lot but they are not good at connecting and getting the residents involved, I have been disappointed with that. There is a real difficulty with the medical care, information doesn't get through, there is a huge breakdown and a lot of dropped balls.

Not always as pretty as it seems

Beautiful but hidden charges every where 5.00 every meal you eat in room required to socialize. My mother in law was a shut in and did not like crowds was told to join others or get charged extra over the 3500. Monthly for assisted living. Emergency buttons you wear don't always work , short staff on weekends, and residents walk away, and get lost.

It just didn't seem like people were happy.

We entertain there with The Bedpan Band and nobody was happy and the staff was grumpy too, but it was a beautiful place. It just didn't seem like people were happy. It looks like a grand hotel or something. It was just gorgeous but you could just tell that the staff and the people were just not happy people. I didn't have a complete tour but you could just tell people weren't happy and the staff wasn't happy even getting people to their seats to listen to us. It used to be a hotel so I'm sure they aren't apartments but more like hotel rooms.

Just OK

My husband was there while I had surgery. They weren't taking good care of him. They had not kept up to date on his Parkinson's medication. They might have missed the fact that he had Parkinson's, I don't know. When my son took him home, we had to take him to the Medina hospital, and for three days we tried to bring him back to life. He is walking good now. He was pleased with it while he was there, so I would say Elmcroft is fair. It was nice that they had an opening immediately for him, but we didn't think it was excellent.

They're trying

The upper managment people are good compassionate people. The resident nurses are a good staff. However, the middle management doesn't share the same compassion. They seem unable to cope with my father's behavior, his dementia. It has been a constant struggle to keep the room sanitary. There is a residue of urine that clings to shoes. There is also too much stealing and borrowing (which I recognize is normal for Alzheimer's patients) between patients. They need to catch this quicker. They are quick to detect medical problems and have improved the overall health of my father. That is good. Taking care of dementia afflicted patients is a huge undertaking and I admire the dedication of those compassionate staff that do it well.

I didn't liek this at all. The first thing was when I walked in the door, I could smell urine. I didn't care too much for the rooms either, they seemed a little small. When I walked in the door, to be honest, right when that smell hit me I thought "just turn around and leave." I've worked in nursing homes for a few years and the place seemed like it was older and when we were walking down the hallway someone had gone to the bathroom right in the middle of the floor.

It was a very small lock down community, I thought my father wanted a more social experience (which ended up not even mattering) but I think they also had a higher staff turnover rate.

Poor Communication

This is the first facility that I've placed my mother in. They get a zero on communication. I understand that they're going through some management changes but when you place your mother in a facility and you email and call and you don't get a response, that's devastating. You can't run over there everynight to see how your loved one is doing. She's been moved 3 times since she's been there. She's a very high functioning alzheimer's patient and now she's in a house of very low funcitoning people. She's the only one who's ambulatory. I don't think she's in the appropriate house. I've seen good care but I don't think there is enough activity for her. It's very cheery and bright - open and spread out with more space to walk around.

Review for Briar Glen Alzheimer's Special Care Center

It was not a good fit for mom. She fell asleep couple of times (proved by the bruising), but I was never called. When I informed them the nurse said something on the order of "we'll, it wasn't charted." Exactly my point! Overall, not recommended.

Lorain Estates Senior Living

Memory care CANNOT help patients that have Parkinson'sDementia. Nurse aides DO NOT respect leadership and mouth off to patient loved ones. Even if you sign papers to be contacted by EMS before they tote your scared mother with delusions and paranoia to ER when she has no injuries they send her without calling. I only knew my mom was in hospital becaue they contacted me. Did not hear from Lorain Estates for 3 DAYS!! ER Dr. did not want my mom sent back there. They sent her to ER 6 times in a few days. She had no injuries luckily as they never watched her and she would forget she couldn't get up. And do not get me started on their PA who had nurses giving my mom low and high blood pressure medicine every day on and off all day

Beautiful facility, can be incredibly difficult to actually get in!

It's a beautiful, clean place with lots of things for the residence to do, I'm sure [name removed] would've LOVED it there. Unfortunately they made it so difficult for us to actually get in for our one month respite stay that I was never able to get him in. I ended up under twice as much stress as I was before when this was supposed to be a respite for me. He ended up being stuck 45 minutes away from home in a different house while we were waiting to get him in into Whitby and then when we finally got the greenlight to get them into Whitby he left the house and then we couldn't get him in again because this because that and we had to put him in a hotel for three weeks! We finally just gave up and took him home! All in all this little venture with Whitby Pointe cost me MORE stress, I got no respite, and paid THOUSANDS of dollars in hotel fees.

Not recommended.

The facility was terrible. We had to take our loved one out of there. They did not take good care of the patients in memory care I would not recommend that facility. At least not the memory care. Not recommended.

Disappointing Experience

Constant staff changes. They changed directors in memory care 3 times in the 4 months my mom lived there. There were days my mother was left in her room all day till I came to see her in evening. Several days in row left in same clothing.
