I would absolutely not recommend Briar Glen to anyone. We stayed 2 months and took mom home after hospitalization. I really should call and describe our experience and those of other residents and families who agree

I was really hoping for more from both the daily care team and the nursing staff. It's definitely a place that seems better suited for more high-functioning residents. They weren't very mindful in caring for my mom and often left her without the supervision she needed. For example, they would set a plate of food in front of her but not actually help her get situated so she could eat. Many times, she would just sit and wait for me to come feed her or arrange things so she could manage. I've shared these concerns through an official complaint and truly hope they'll be taken seriously and addressed.

We only lasted 4 months and it took [name removed] from basically self-sufficient to 100% bed bound.

Unfortunately our experience at Brookdale Whitby was not good. The facility itself was dirty and hallways smelled like urine, there were roaches in the bedrooms, and short staffed. In ever facility we went to the management always changed and made it difficult to communicate with anyone.

Staff didn't do their jobs. My dad had feces on the floor in the bathroom, on the toilet and on the bedding. It did not get cleaned up for over 24 hours later, even after my brother complained about it. The room was never cleaned before he moved in. My bare feet were black after walking on the floor. Food was not good. He was there for 2 weeks and we couldn't get him out of there fast enough.

The staff lacks compassion and respect for the residents. I feel like we are imposing on them. The food is awful. Usually, we have to wait 1 to 2 hours to get served. Some of the kitchen staff are rude and don't pay attention to the residents. The overall physical building is dirty and poorly kept. Housekeeping staff are completely useless and rude and thoughtless. I am very distressed about having to pay[amount removed] per month for food that is so awful, and the fact I don't very often don't even go down for. I don't like paying for something I don't use.

Choose another facility. I would not recommend Orchard Park at Southfork.

The hands-on staff were quite good, friendly, and very sweet to mom. Management, administration and communication was absolutely horrific. I am happy to elaborate more if you need me to. We are no longer there. Again, staff members were so sweet and kind. Mom LOVED THEM! From the get-go, the management and administration were very shady and non-communicative. When we were first looking at the Birchwoods, they did not one but two assessments on Mom. They knew she had dementia. I was very upfront about all of the different behaviors and issues that we were having at home before we moved her in. They gave us a big deal about how they believed in "aging in place", and their goal was to accept people into the facility, who would not have to move again, but could age there and not have to transition again. They also had "memory care" as a service on their website. That conspicuously disappeared off of the website a few months later! The first two nights after we moved Mom in, she was very confused and unsettled with the transition. An aid came into her room in the middle of the night to check on her and Mom became very startled as she woke up to a very large woman who she had never met before standing over her bed. Mom packed her bag and was walking down the hallway saying she had to leave . She never even made it to the lobby before they got her back into her room. I got a call at 3:30 AM that morning from a nurse who was very worked up saying that she was "exit seeking". Something similar happened the next night and I got another phone call, this time at 2 AM in the morning saying that she was asking for me and looking for my dad. Of course, this was a horrible introduction to the facility. I was later told by the admissions Director that he thought that they completely overreacted, and this was pretty normal behavior during the transition. They kept telling me that they would have somebody from management. Call me back to discuss what was going on. They told me this multiple times. I never got a call from anybody in management. The only time they called me was when they perceived something to be going wrong And would not follow up with any sort of phone call or conversation. Needless to say, I was on edge all the time. Additionally, we were never given any contact or email of any person who we should call if we had a problem. I would just call the front desk and try to find out if there was anybody on staff that I could talk to that day. Horrible horrible communication. heir programming was nonexistent. It was very clear after a short time that they were really only interested in people who needed an independent living community. The turnover of staff was very high. Inevitably, a new management company took over a few months ago, and apparently decided that they wanted to focus on independent living and started giving all of the Dementia residence very short notice that they had to move out. There was never even any communication saying that the facility had changed management companies. Again zero communication

I don't recommend Briar Glen! Facility is definitely understaffed. No call buttons by the beds only in the bathrooms. I'm not sure if they would answer them anyway. There is no attention to the residents.

Facilities were clean and neat, rooms well appointed. Entrances were narrow and not ADA compliant. Staffing shortages extremely noticeable. Nursing staff and or medical techs were either good or horrible. Medication was distributed to residents which was not prescribed and other prescribed meds not given at all? Took 4 weeks for staff to adhere to rx's written by physician. Staff shortages in dining room were horrible as only one person served the entire dining room. Food was fair to poor and portions were small. Lastly, absolutely little to no daily activity for residents. Residents completely bored to death.

If something breaks they do not care!! My shower ?? in my bathroom was leaking continually for a month!! My shower floor was always wet!! I called and I even have a video!!

They completely fooled me just by my first visit. They did not care for my aunt. She fell and broke her hip and then 6 months later she was watched as she fell and broke her other hip. They also forced me into using the hospice company that they have ties with and my aunt ended up dying in her room by herself without them even letting me know anything. So no I would never ever recommend them at all. I hope this will keep others from having their loved ones in that horrible place.

The facility did not meet expectations after seeing what the competition has to offer. There seems to be a lack of enthusiasm here and you do not get a warm feeling. The tour was disorganized and the employee seemed distracted like they had other things to be doing.

The friendliness and the staff gets a 5 and a 1. I gave Rittenhouse a check for my sisters care from my checking account. My sister had end stage Parkinson's Disease, much worse than I realized. My sister unfortunately had to be admitted to [community removed] and passed away there. She never went to Rittenhouse. I contacted Rittenhouse twice about a refund, but never received a return call. I did receive a check for $[removed]+ which I gave to the attorneys office. The management was so nice and helpful, but never responded when it came to refunding my money. Very disappointing! Very nice place but not very honest.

Overall experience started off good and has deteriorated. Birchwoods management did not have awareness of what the staff was doing OR what they were not doing. Care of vulnerable people suffered and many families moved their loved ones out. Harm came to some residents at the hands of bad workers and uncaring management. One resident who is in a wheelchair was stuck in her room for hours needing help, ringing for help and no one came. They say the management is now on top of it but honestly they have just let go any employee who knows the truth about what it's been like. It used to be friendly but now it is not. Very few staff care to speak to the residents and make them feel seen and cared for except the social workers who do bingo and activities. Also friendly and caring are the two front desk women and one nurse and a couple of med tech women - two of whom have quit due to all of this. The new med tech men are terrible. Food is awful. The noon time meal can be ok but the evening is awful - one night they actually served a nasty looking baked potato and potato chips. Nothing else. Very odd. For activities, they try - they are kind to the residents and try to make them happy. Value for the money - bad, my parents pay [fee removed] a month and the only thing they get is meds given and some average noontime meals. They buy groceries all the time to have decent food. They all deserve better.

Ask around before you move in because how rude, dirty, disrespectful, and bug-ridden this place is a poorly-kept secret. Don’t do this to yourself or your family members. Please. Your loved ones deserve to be treated with kindness, not lied to, ignored, or yelled at by the nursing staff. Stay away.

Was very disappointed in the lack of information we were given in the process of getting Mom settled. We also did not have contact people, or call backs when requested. The whole process was very unsettling for the whole family.
