Not my first (or second) choice

My father was first put with a patient that we were later told never is roomed with anyone due to the severity of his condition. After a miserable and sleepless night he was moved but his confidence in the facility was rightfully shaken. The next night he waited for over an hour to have assistance to the toilet and was told that he'd just have to wait as the technician had 18 patients and pooping wasn't a priority. The stress was great on his fragile system and we went back to the hospital the next day. The nurses who had cared for him before Knightsbridge were shocked at the damage 48 hours had done. I would never suggest this place. It looks nice and the food is good. If you can care for yourself then it might be a good choice. But it us NOT a good choice for medical assistance of any kind. And the attitude that the nurses gave us when we decided to take him back to OSU was horrendous. You would think we were dipping directly into their pay! They told us to ignore his 'antics' and go home. I don't think needing help to breath or get to a toilet is antics. Those nurses need continuing education in compassion. They will grow old and require assisted too. I hope they get exactly what they've given.

Keep looking...there are better out there that cost less with better care

From the time we made the decision that Edgewood worked for my Mom the care was bad. Within the first two weeks they "accidentally" let my my out the front door. She wandered the streets for hours until finally she went to a door and the homeowner called the police. Not much later one of their caregivers [removed] my mother with her finger nails. The wounds required antibiotics and there are still deep scars. The caregiver said my Mom was trying to hit her...however the caregiver had no marks. My mom is nearly 80 and the caregiver was approximately 25. Unfortunately the same scenario happened a second time...begging the question of the training at the facility. The staff is not adequately trained to work with the trials of Alzheimer's...especially those that are still talkative and mobile. Their answer is to give the member mind dulling drugs. If you don't comply then they increase the costs by 30-40% with no explanation. They seem to do well as long as the client is wheel chair bound and can't communicate...or is drugged into submissiveness. I've had family members in 4 different facilities in the Portland & Beaverton areas and this is among the most frustrating. Many of the people there are well meaning and work well with the clients, however there is a general lack of training and therefor they are I'll-equipped to understand the complexities of Alzheimer's victims. On a positive, they do offer a solid amount of mind stimulating activities run by Lisa, who is a gem who offers some redemption.

Worst experience ever

My Dad moved in on Nov. 4, 2013, on the fourth day we were told that he fallen but it was not serious. After a visit by my brother later on that night he required medical attention by ER Dr for trauma to the inter part of his arm (not consistent with a fall). Called home office and sent picture of his arm and didn't get a response for several days. We did his laundry & cleaned his room the whole time he lived there. He was isolated at meal time. The care declined dramatically!! He basically became lifeless there. After a Dr's. visit that confirmed a 35 lb.weight loss i decided to bring him home. Upon packing his belongings i was told by four staff members(& a pvt.duty care giver) he had been [removed] several times. (covered up by staff) Unfortunately he has not been the same since he went to Elmcroft. Sadly i entrusted these people to care for him. They decided to clean house and get rid of the people that required more care basically. My question is how do these people sleep at night??

Would not recommend, numerous issues

I selected this facility for my loved one because from all outward appearances it was very upscale and high quality. However in terms of the care my loved one has been receiving it has been a big disappointment. The staff seem very disorganized. I have been paying for my loved one to get assistance using the restroom, which hasn't been happening. They let her go for days without being bathed, or changing her soiled sheets, despite the fact that people have been signing off on the chart that says her room has been cleaned. The biggest issue we've had is that we stressed it was extremely important that she continue the physical therapy that she had been receiving at the facility we moved her from. I let them know I would pay for it myself until her insurance was set up here. She still has not started receiving the physical therapy. We've had issues with her being given improper medication that we already sent the replacement for, and with paperwork from her doctors being stuck in her file and ignored without ever being read. The food started out very good, but then they lost their chef and since then it has been very plain. They also no longer provide different options for residents on low sodium diets. It seems like every time I visit there has been some problem, sometimes something minor, sometimes something major, and it really doesn't inspire confidence or give me peace of mind knowing that my loved one is here.

Pushy used car type sales presentation with Cheryl asking a little too much about finances and really trying to close the deal in one trip, and almost discouraging looking at other options. Showed me a room that needed new carpeting and was dirty, had to get the paperwork together and I had to wait while they got their act together. Facility was overall attractive, just not a spit polish to the presentation or the rooms.

I don't know what happened, they weren't able to handle his needs.

I don't know what happened, they weren't able to handle his needs. They were not giving the proper medication, I don't really know where the fault of that would lie. It was not a good experience, for us, and I didn't feel comfortable staying there. There was a communication breakdown somewhere. The hospital said in the last couple of years things have changed at Hudson Creek. They were super nice, when I visited, every question we had they were able to answer. It was nice it didn't smell, it was clean. The doctor went to examine him, and I was not impressed with her.

I'm moved him out as soon as I could.

I'm moved him out as soon as I could. Hospice did come in the morning to make sure he was awake and dressed. I don't know what kind of care he would get if they didn't come in. They hadn't been taking care of his teeth, they were supposed to take him to doctors appointments, he missed them, and they didn't even tell us about the service we can pay for to take him to and from. They don't make sure he eats. They say that they do but they don't, I visited on a weekend and there were two staff people for thirty residents!

Would not recommend this place

We had our loved one here for a time before we moved her out, and we did not have a good experience. The facility itself was very nice looking, and clean, but that is where the positives end. It was always very hard to get in touch or get any response from the staff, and my loved one had falls that ended up with her in the hospital numerous times. I would recommend avoiding this place.

Not really impressed with their memory care. It looked like an insane asylum. It didn't look anything like a place that you would want to live out the rest of your life.

Not independent both the alleged independent is in the same building only separated by one being on one side and the assisted on the other side of building. They had integrated meals very disturbing although the food was good. Very old.

I don't believe they have enough attendents for the number of patients.

I don't believe after hours they have enough attendents for the number of patients in the facility. My aunt developed a UTI while she was there, she fell and injured her back and I still don't know exactly what happened. I was called by their supposedly medical personell and told to take her to the hospital, and when I arrived they said that they checked her out and she didn't need to go. The floors are concrete with tile and carpet that isn't very thick and my aunt is tall so how could they know without an x-ray if anything was broken? She is old and her bones are brittle. I only observed 3 people on duty at night and one time I pushed the button to be let out and it took 20 minutes before someone came and let me out. I was quoted one price and it ended up being a couple thousand more by the time she moved in. They had a lot of eye candy, gingerbread on the outside. Most of the people at the facility are not mentally awake enough to comprehend the facade... so who is that for? I haven't been able to move her furniture out of there yet and they are going to charge her for another month.

EEEEW. Not for mom, seems like an old folks home (well, it is). One room looked promising, but there's no place to sit that's pretty and the dining room and lobby were depressing. Didn't like the vibe. Understand why it's less $$.

Better off going somewhere else

The cleanliness of the community was fine, however they did a horrible job keeping our loved ones apartment clean, it was so dirty. The staff were nice but incompetent, we could never trust what they would say. They would say one things but do another, or not follow through with promises. They wear understaffed but they could not keep up with our loved ones basic cleaning needs, there was times we would visit and our loved one would be sitting in soiled depends for hours, they were just not attentive at all. When they had a chef and could eat in the dining room the meals were good, but they were changing things within the facility and starting delivering the meals in a box to their rooms and it was just bad.
