Our family had an in person tour and even though the community itself looked really nice, when we got there the person who was supposed to give the tour was not there and so we had to wait - the person who ended up giving us the tour never had done one before so it just was not going to work for our loved one

What stood out to me about this facility is the friendliness of staff. How thoroughly things were explained. We felt welcome and part of community even though it was a short stay. I was disappointed in the care that my mom received. Initially it was as expected. However, communication about meds needing to be refilled was not immediately communicated. The staff did not shower, help her get dressed, brush her teeth. The basic ADLs were not performed as was determined in care plan. The activities woman was very nice and welcoming. She encouraged and included my mom to participate.

They were very friendly. My loved one seemed to like the food, and loved the activites. They did not provide a certain level of care for our loved one, and was not checking on them.

It was bright and clean when we moved in but then something drastically changed. The reason we moved our loved one out was because after a month of being there, the housekeeping went way down and the whole facility smelled like urine. If your loved one is a diabetic, they are not really equip to take care of them. They say that they are, but we gave specific orders from my loved ones doctor as to how he was to be cared for and they said they did not do it that way there. The doctor here said unless his blood sugar is so high that he will have a seizure or so low that he would go into a coma, they would not intervene. For someone who just has memory care issues, this may be a good place for you, but if there are any other health issues it is not.

The services are not always available. The transportation is not working, to take the residents to different places. My loved one does not really like the food, and does not participate in activities. The place is under new managment, so hopefully things change soon. My loved one has a large untit, and for what they're paying it's good ,compared to other places.

I toured Brookdale Eden Prairie while all of the residents were eating lunch. They were playing country music very loudly, it smelled in there, and it looked like they were eating everything from a can. They just didn't look happy or anything. There's issues at the community we chose, but the staff are really nice; they will try and convince her to do things, and she has friends there now.

The staff was friendly. The kitchen area was dirty. It gave more of a nursing home feel.

It was dinner time so all residents were in the dining room. They seemed happy enough but we're ushered through fairly quickly. Didn't see many staff members. I'm sure there, just out of sight. Facility was worn, dirty. Needs an upgrade for sure. Really had the feel of old nursing home. Vastly different at Heritage.

On the other tours mom had to be in a wheelchair. At another community she surprised me by being able to walk with her rollator for the whole tour, made us so happy. That's why we chose another community.

I was so excited to find a place that was close to my house. I looked at a lot of places and was going to go with another place, but I love how they introduced me at Five Star. The main problem here is the staff - my loved one got yelled at by one of the workers. I reported it and they said they would handle it. This was not the only issue we have had, I went and visited on Monday and then Tuesday and he had on the same clothing both days. He got yelled at again being told this was not a nursing home and that he needed to clean and bathe himself. They have a lot of activities provided, but they do not encourage the residents to participate in them. We have been very frustrated especially because of how much we are paying. Overall we have been completely disappointed in the experience.

My husband entered Briar Glen on [date removed] we exited the facility on [date removed] after we were told that he was not a good fit for Briar Glen. There was an incident that occurred on the night of the [date removed] in which he became agitated and was taken to the hospital via an ambulance. We were called at 1 AM and informed about it and then on the [date removed] we were told that The administrator had determined from information she learned while on leave that [name removed]could only stay at the facility with 24/7 sitter service. We were told that the administrator would meet us when she returned from our Christmas vacation on [date removed]. We provided round the clock sitter service with me sleeping in the recliner the four nights and our daughters splitting the remainder shifts each day. During the four days we were at the facility, we learned from different staff members that [name removed]was not completely at fault with the incidences that occurred. Unfortunately we didn't spend the first night with him. Our daughter spent the first day with him and he had adjusted well enough that she felt he could spend the night alone. That was a mistake - we should've spent the night with him and several nights after, until we made sure he was adjusted. Another thing we learned is that holiday time, especially Christmas, is a poor time to admit anyone. The administrator was on vacation and the staff was smaller due to people wanting to be off for Christmas. Another thing we learned is to make sure that the person being admitted has ALL of their medication. My husband was admitted from UAB Hospital after being there to have his medication adjusted. He had been placed on a narcotic that that assisted living wasn't able to obtain because they didn't have a written prescription for the gabapentin and the Seroquel. Because of that error he went cold turkey off two narcotics. Therefore, his behavior was more agitated and aggressive than before. It was a very traumatic experience for us and very emotional. We were pleased with his placement and purchased a dorm refrigerator, a twin bed, Bed linens and bath linens, snack foods, etc. We had Spectrum connect the satellite and we went to a lot of trouble and expense, just for four days. I knew the contract was binding whether he was dismissed by the facility or taken home voluntarily by us. I knew that our entry fee of [removed] and our first rent of [removed]was nonrefundable; because I signed the contract. That is a lot of money that could have been used on caregivers in our home. The next month, I received mail from Briar Glen and innocently thought they were refunding some of our money. Instead of any refund, there was a bill for an additional [removed]. I wrote the check for that amount and mailed it in with a letter which stated that I was going to protest this additional charge because I thought it was very unfair and could be considered as price gouging. I did write a letter to JEA Senior Living in Vancouver Washington. The check was not withdrawn from our checking account. My husband was admitted to Briar Glen through the recommendation from UAB that this type of facility would be his least restrictive environment. Unfortunately that didn't work out. I would never recommend Briar Glen for anyone.

This place was horrible and they were very unprofessional.

I was concerned about this community. I did not see anyone at the front desk when we first came in. Also the person seemed to be very hard sells. When we went out to the back patio the doors were locked and we were not able to get back in and tried 3 different doors and they had no handicapped accessible doors outside so I felt like it would not have worked for my parents who needed mobility assistance. I also did not see any residents when I was there, I just did not get a good impression.

I would advise anybody to be very cautious. It's a wonderful location and a very nice facility that has some nice features, including the individual balconies. However, whether it's due to staffing issues and is just a temporary issue, or whether it's a long-term, ongoing issue, they messed up my loved one's medications on more than one occasion. There was also a concerning lack of communication and responsiveness from high level staff, including the administrator at the time and the head nurse.

This community reminded me as a hospital and they only had studios. The rooms didn't have a kitchen. The tour experience was not the greatest.

We did not have the best experience at Isles of Vero beach. The AC unit was broken. They told us all residents could go to one area for the evening or stay with a family member and with covid I did not think that was a reasonable choice. There was also some broken tile in his shower, when he got out he fell on that. There were just a lot of maintenance issues during his stay here.

This community was fine when I went in to register and then when my husband was transferred over the wheelchair had no foot rest. Every time they moved him his feet drug around or someone had to lift them for him. The room was not ready for him and was not clean when he came in. Also when my loved one passed no one expressed any sympathy and that was horrible to me. They also charged me for extra days while they got his things together.

We have had issues with security and my loved one is not receiving the care that we expected. I do understand that they are short staffed and I think that is causing the issues with the lack of care. We have been disappointed.

I did not like this community as much as I liked others. It was wide and bright and clean but it felt isolated and not the community that I was looking for. It was like one part of the community was assisted living and then the other part was not.
