Make sure people understand that they are not getting skilled nursing and that you will have to keep a close eye on the physical wellbeing of your parent.

Our family had an in person tour with The Gardens of Port St. Lucie and It was not very clean, and smell was very bad. Turned us off in arrival. Room they showed us as example very nice. Room my step dad was to go to very old and run down and next to an exit door which he would have done.

Pros: staff seemed engaged with the residents and they were nice. It was more cost effective price wise. Cons: The memory care floor was on the second floor - did not make us feel comfortable if there was an emergency. The memory care floor was also not very clean (floors were dirty and it didn't smell clean and didn't seem well kept). The rooms were my least favorite out of the 3 places - not as open and bright as the other two locations. There bathrooms seemed older and just not as well kept / clean. When we left Morningside, we all knew this was not where my mom would be placed.

We toured Leisure Park during our search for Independent Living for our loved one. It was not as clean as the other facilities that we toured. They also didn't offer a very good variety of activities. It was kind of depressing, the residents were just hanging out in the hallways.

My loved one was a resident at Amber Glen Alzheimer's Special Care Center, but we have moved her from this facility. For my staff rating, I would rate the employees at a 4 and the management at a 2. I would not recommend this facility at this time. I would be extremely suspicious of anything their sales / marketing person says. I would say 90 percent was untrue-some purposeful and some not.

Mom was there for a year, and initially things seemed good, but soon became apparent that the promises for changing sheets, help with dentures, hearing aids, showers, and giving doctor ordered supplements happened sporadically or not at all. These services are extra charges, and I was the one doing them much of the time. Management does not hold employees accountable. Med techs would lie about giving Mom supplements. She would go a week or more without a shower, until I would come and take care of it. Many discussions with the Directors resulted in temporary changes at best. Care staff turnover is constant and most are not trained how to use different approaches or understand dementia. A few staff were great and interacted positively with the residents - front desk, activities director, chef, physical therapy staff, and a couple of care givers that Mom loved. After a year of increasing stress, we moved mom to a different facility, and it was the best decision we could have made.

My dad was at this facility for 19 months and my mom for 1 month. It was originally owned by [removed] and it was awesome. Now it's owned by Sinceri Living and it's not so awesome anymore. My family's experiences: 1. My mom passed away there[date removed]. We had her room cleaned out the [date removed]. We were still charged a month of rent ($[removed]) because we didn't give 30 days notice!!!!! 2. We were told multiple times that we were not allowed to speak to the staff and vice versa. 3. Rent went up from $[removed] in 2022 to $[removed] in 2023 (at least for my dad). I believe different families are paying different amounts. 4. My dad had a DNR and yet he ended up at the hospital a minimum of 3 times. The last time, he was found unresponsive. The orders were to call hospice but they panicked and called the squad. When I confronted them about why they didn't call hospice, they said they did but hospice didn't answer. Hospice says there was no record of Mulberry calling.

A lot of what I have noticed that they do is pass the buck... in other words nobody wants to take responsibility for anything. They have openings at least. Most places have waiting lists that are months out. They do not provide transportation on weekends for anything. During the week yes. We were told before my dad moved out there that they've had transportation for him to get to church but that is not true and that was one of the big burrs under his saddle was that he couldn't get to church. The cost is entirely too high for what they do. I wouldn't recommend for someone who's mind is sharp. Not a lot of mental or emotional stimulation there. Ok if you're not fussy. But like us..didn't have any options. The apartments are nice and spacious. Two large rooms, big walk in closet, huge bathroom.

At the time we were there the facility was going through a lot of turnover and many of the key administrative positions were new or unfilled. We did not know this when moving my mother in. Many of the residents were in them end stages of dementia. There were very little socialization opportunities or activities that were appropriate for her higher ability to function and communicate.

I do not recommend Winterberry Heights. They charged us for the following month after my loved one had passed. Overall it was a bad experience. He fell many times, and the nurse I spoke to stated she thought he was bed-ridden so he was not checked on as often as needed, which resulted in a bad way to end his life... Only there one week before passing.

My loved one was a resident here and staffing was an issue. They were so short staffed that the Executive Director and other administration were on kitchen duties and they ran out of food. The facility was clean, the staff that they did have was friendly. We'd chosen this facility because it was newer, clean, affordable, and we heard everything that we wanted to hear....but they didn't deliver. They intended to do everything right, but staffing was a disaster. I'd rate them at a 2 until the fix the staffing. Once that is fixed, my rating would probably return to a 4 or 5.

Our family had an in person tour with The Gardens of Virginia Beach and the facility itself just seemed dark, so we went with [community name removed[ that had nice big halls and it had an airy feeling to it.

Dad was in the memory care unit for 10 weeks. He hated being there. Most of his direct care staff were kind and caring. I appreciate them. But there just wasn’t anything for him to do. There is not many activities for residents at advanced levels of dementia. Life revolved around the three daily meals and being parked in front of the TV. Meals were just okay. Resident nails and hair were overgrown. Medication was the answer to agitation, which for my father, often led to over sedation and falls. I think the staff did their best, but I just felt very disconnected from the community (even though a family member was there most days of the week.) Dad died 10 weeks after arriving. That was a blessing. We moved out all his furniture and items within 14 hours of his death. Then came the final bill. Apparently the contract states rent will be charged for 14 days following death. This is absolutely criminal, in my opinion. So be warned. 10 weeks in memory care = $22,417

I'm not sure my loved one was getting his medications like he was supposed to. And I didn't feel that the level of care he was supposed to get was being given to him. When I would come to the staff with questions or concerns, they were helpful.

Our family had an in person tour and the tour set up starting out was weird so we didn't get a chance to tour with who we were supposed to and the person we did tour with was running late for something so the tour was just not a great experience at all.

Not qualified to handle confused patients. Smelled awful, but looked clean. Staff (mostly) friendly. Care not personalized. Meals were acceptable

The carpets on the mail floor by the dining room and kitchen are always filthy and practically worn out. One elevator has been out of service for months. The one remaining elevator is not reliable. The fire dept has been called in twice in the past two months to get residents upstairs when the one remaining elevator is inoperable. The food quality has improved but they run out of food if you don't go early. Portions are very very small and often served luke warm or cold. It's never served hot. The place has deteriorated in the 6 months my mother has been there. Many residents have been leaving due to the continued problems. Staff does as best as they can with the staffing levels. They could use more help. I would not recommend this facility at this point in time.

Our family had an in person tour and we just did not think it was the best tour experience. There was a resident siting in a wheel chair that was in need of assistance and we do understand the tour guide was giving us a tour but they did not stop the tour and just assist this lady super quick but instead yelled down the hallway to grab another workers attention. So for us it just did not give us the best first impression.

I started looking at facilities and met with [name removed] . [name removed] sold me a good story , [name removed] advised me his parents had it and he understood the place I was at in my life . I placed my mom in and was so excited but not much longer in the time would I realize that they sold me a dream .I have met some awesome people so I’m not going to say the staff was not good but if you are paying a facility you should expect certain things and one big expectation was hygiene . The thing that broke me was was my mom was not being given any baths or showers and was trying to do it herself. Now as many times they have told me “ you know her memory leaving “. I had camera installed and what hurt me is that my mom was brushing her teeth with body wash , trying to give herself bath with paper towels. I literally started going up there to give my mom a bath even sent a email to [name removed] , no response! Yes I’m removing her but no one should have to go thru it!! Watch your people , video everything

We had moved our loved out because she was not happy with the care she received. There was not much supervision with the other residents so people were in and out of our loved ones room all the time. Some of our loved belongings were taken and rummaged around. Our loved ones room would smell like urine - this was due to the staff not being able to take our loved one to the bathroom. They gave our loved one some medication they did not need. Things we had bought and provided for our loved one we never saw them.
