They are currently renovating the main floor, but other than that, the building looks a little rundown. It's sort of "you get what you pay for" in terms of the building as it is lower on the end of the pricing scale. There also a lot of changes in management. The staff is pretty friendly. There are activities available for the residents, however my mother doesn't feel there are enough intellectually stimulating activities. The community van also broke down and never fixed it. She does complain about the food pretty often?

First off let me say I actually do like the Gardens; the COVID has not helped. My mom has dementia and has been staying on the ALF side. At the end of April she had a stroke, she returned but to the SNF side for some rehab. She wants to go back to the ALF side; she keeps trying to 'escape' because she wants her ALF room back. Every time I talk to someone (when I can get them to return my call haha) tells me something different. There is NO communication with the family. I finally find out at the end of her 100% covered SNF days that I could have refused and had her back on the ALF already. My mom can walk by herself, feed herself, dress herself, bathe herself; her dementia memory has always been there and I will admit has exacerbated, but it would not be as bad if she were not on the skilled nursing side as she is bored and COVID isolating her family has not helped the situation! She wants her room and her recliner. [name removed] is wonderful and about the one that has communicated with me almost immediately. The social worker has tried. The rest of the management I am not impressed with, I will admit I did not need them before so I was not aware. I am just frustrated that when I need to speak with someone I have to ask I cannot reach them in a timely manner and when I do all the necessary information I need is not relayed to me.

We have been touring communities in the Wilmington area for our Mom. This community is very nice, get appeal when walking up to the main entrance, the elderly have porches on the first floor. (Loved it). Friendly front desk person and a great room just off the main lobby. The elderly had an entertainer preforming and they were enjoying it. Only a couple of down falls for this community, the front hallways to get to the assisted living or any main common areas (like dinning room, the front lobby great room, activities room) are long and dark (need to invest in better lighting). The carpets are dated and very dark, which doesn't help with the lighting of the hallways. The independent living very beautiful, but they need to make improve the assisted living to the standards of the independent living. The assisted living looks like a step-sister and has not had any attention to it. Apartments in the assisted living looked more like a converted nursing home room. Nothing worth mentioning. Prices were a little high, for not a great assisted living. Not a place for Mom.

Basically beautiful facility. Lots of activities. The sales staff were focused on making that sale and meeting financial occupancy goals. My mom arranged the move alone and upon signing the paperwork, I found the apartment to be a horrible fit for my mothers needs. No one was around to show me the apartment until the paperwork was signed and they received a check. The administrative staff lacks the ownership of resolving major concerns and a lot of times they're not even there. My mother moved in.. paid a large fee to have the apartment ready and one month later.. its still not resolved. My mother moved in to a broken ac they brought up a portable until it was fixed. Currently the glass top stove remains shattered and not safe to use. Shower head leaks the bathroom is next to her bed. Her pictures have not been hung. There's a huge lip between the tile and flooring that causes my mom who utilizes a walker to trip. The moving company that was strongly recommended by [name removed] was horrible unprofessional rude and just plain bullies. They set up her apartment "thd standard" way and Tefused to move her items how she wanted them. That company is Estate home services [name removed] and [name removed]. Her dresser was turned sideways everything fell out and the draws wouldn't open. When calling them they were defensive and rude and took 3 weeks to fix. Currently made a corporate complaint and met with The director [name removed]. Doesnt make logical sense to sell an apartment that is the farthest away from everything to an elderly women that has agility and stamina disabilities that uses a Walker. Safe happy convenient living is not the goal. Selling apartments and meeting occupancy is the main goal . The social aspect is great. The staff is friendly. Multiple calls to administration after a month of patience and being ignored. Today after this review the stove and shower were fixed. Sooo beware be diligent. Lots of smiles and promises. But you need an advocate or your stuck

[name removed] didn’t call me on Friday to confirm my appt like the people from the other facility reps did. He sent me an email that I didn’t see until late Friday. I responded back Friday night and he didn’t call me to confirm and until 2 pm while I was still touring another facility. He did not ask any questions prior to my visit like the other facility reps did and therefore he wasn’t really prepared to meet with to the level the other facility reps were. The place was not very clean and there was a smell or urine in the air. I felt like [name removed] was laying on a heavy sales pitch and really wasn’t asking me questions he should have been asking.

Older facility that needs some structural upgrades. Care and activity levels good when resident's health is good. When advanced illness or chronic illness arises, this may not be the best place as it doesn't provided skilled nursing care, doesn't have an onsite pharmacy and only limited doctor visits resulting in going to the ER for treatment.

Of three residential care facilities we visited this one seemed to have most bang for the buck. But its maintenance crew is too small for its size, so normal repairs take longer than desired. An antiquated A/C system leaves hot spots throughout the facility. Food servers are not well trained. Activities (arts & crafts, exercise room) have been almost eliminated, leaving bingo and other gambling games to dominate. Communications between management and residents, and among workers, are poor -- straight answers are hard to get -- no one seems to know real facts. On the other hand, a big plus to overall friendliness at all levels. We met and conversed with more people here in one week than we did in three years at our Sun City Center gated community condo. The residents at The Isles make the place run and give it a real sense of community.

I like living at Howard Village. The activity we have are fun. Jodi is one of the nicest person at Howard Village. All the employees are for the most part very nice to me. Thank you!

My comments will be in regards to both communities City Center and Town Center have the same Salesperson. I feel the facility itself was on par with what my brother would require. The sales person was disorganized in regards to not having pricing available for rates regarding the levels of care. She wrote down what she thought they were as she stated that her computer was rebooting. The pricing she wrote down was honestly more than double than any other facility I have spoken with. I mentioned that the pricing was much higher than any other facility, the reply was we run a little higher than others. Although my brother's situation is different then others I found the overall experience distance and the feel was not overly welcoming.

Enjoyed tour. Nice facility. However, residents did not seem to interact with each other during lunch or in common areas.

The new staff is friendly. There are not many men here. It seems like this facility is more for women. My father would not be happy here. My mother needs more mental stimulation than just playing bingo. The food is not that great but at least she gets 3 square meals a day. I'm sure they do the best they can. I'm anxious to see what the new staff can do for the residents.

My dad was at Brookstone. They were OK but did not keep up with the residents needs very well. Especially on the weekends, it was hard to find someone to help him. His bed was almost never made. Bathrooms were not always cleaned. They very rarely invited him to attend the special activities. He went downhill very fast once he started living there. When he first came, he was walking, eating, dressing and using the bathroom by his self. Within a couple months, he needed help with all these things. Sadly he passed away 6 months after he started living there. He had lost a lot of weight and became frail.

Great place but meals could be better nutritionally.

I get good personal care here. I feel very secure here. The office staff makes themselves readily available to my family members when need be.

While the common areas appeared clean and pleasant, apartment areas were dingy,dark and not inviting. Slight unidentifiable "odor" in hallways.While stoves were present in apartments we found out later from a reliable source they were inoperable due to fire codes. While we mentioned our surprise at finding stoves to our tour guides they never stated this to us. Prices were higher than expected, but carefully explained. Apartments small and dated. Many amenities such as beauty salons, convenience stores,activities. Did not get the impression of an active, diverse community however. Very disappointed by the deception of being able to cook in an assisted living apartment. Also no ability to move into a "memory care" facility if the need arose.

This place was nice. Rooms were set up a little strange but workable. Had vegetables on the menu. The one turn off was when I walked in it had an 'old people' smell to it. That was not good.

I had a tour recently was very impressed. Had a good feeling the whole time I was there. Everyone seemed very happy. It was so informative. Just started looking to find the right place for my Mother and I found it.

Family members have been at this facilty for more than a year. We have the usual problems...lack of communication, management turnover, staffing issues to the point they had to use agency people. The facility is attractive and there is new management in place so I hope for the best. Change doesnt happen overnight. The food is very hit and miss and the employees agree. Some caregivers are great and others are not dependable. Same goes for the nurses. However, with that said, the staff went the extra mile taking care of my dad when he passed away. It is all inclusive pricing but is high compared to other places. I am very involved and come almost daily.

Most like a nursing home of any place I have seen.
