I have a friend who lived independently at Olympics West in Tumwater. In early [date removed] she was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot and her right arm was broken. I received a call from a local hospital where my friend was being treated. She told me that the accident happened the previous day and that the facility didn't call an ambulance for her. She said that she spent the night in her room with a broken arm before checking herself into the hospital. While I was visiting her in the emergency room I noticed that her finger and toenails nails were seriously overgrown to the extent that she couldn't even wear normal shoes. One toe nail was actually bent 90 degrees over the end of her toe! I call Olympics West about her toenails and the receptionist told me that they allowed this to happen because my friend was not in assisted living. I was under the impression that most senior living facilities have people come in to provide these type of services to people.

She actually could not stay in independent living, but I know that they could improve upon the dining system. You have to sign up for a certain time, and then you have to wait. Wait for a table to be cleared for you. My mother ate over 30 minutes after her scheduled time one night. The food was often cold. The friendliness of the community is not good. She was rejected by three tables one day to sit with people. That made her feel horrible. Their ambassador program is extremely poor. Multiple people came up to her the first day, making it overwhelming. She could not remember who she was eating with and when. my recommendation to the community would be for a meeting to be held with all of the new residents so that they could eat together and form new friendships. There should be more organization with the ambassadors so that they don't all ask to sit with the person on the same day. They should pick up the new person at their room and provide their contact information if any questions. The administrative staff was no help. Even after my mother fell, nobody checked on her to see if she was OK. She had fractured her hand. I would not recommend this community.

We are not happy with the new ownership as of now. We maybe looking to leave like several others have done. So far we are not pleased with the new management.

My loved one has been there for almost a year. At first we were very pleased. Within 6 months so many staffing changes made this go from. 4 to a 1-2. New administration is sub par. More important on showing pictures of how much fun everyone is having Staffing is poor and like a revolving door. Cleanliness has plummeted. I had to hire aides to come in and take care of her every day to be sure she is fed and toileted. Food is scarce and horrible. I am sorry to say I have been very displeased with MBG. We pay a lot Of money and the care is no longer there

There were several staff members that actually were encouraged that I would speak up to management since they saw similar issues that were not beneficial to residents. Facility leadership issues. Corporate profit influence. Questionable nursing (RN) decision making. Poor business office compliance. Primary issue is staffing levels...nowhere near sufficient.

We mom and I did not have a complaint on activities. The ladies staff helped her with those things she could not see encouraging her to participate. She had fun laughing and doing. One person helped her play bingo. Enjoyed evening activities listening to music and dancing. As mom lost eye sight due to ARMD. She did not want to participate as much. She became withdrawn. She was not encouraged anymore. With bathing on one occasion an aide was going to bathe her and mom told her the water was too hot. In broken English the aide said "no not too hot" I said "it's too hot stop" mom loves water hotter than most people. So this was very hot. Luckily she did turn down the temperature. Response time to the call bell can be extremely slow. Thirty minutes forty minutes not uncommon. One occasion I called [name removed] the sales director to ask how to get help from someone to mom's room after 45 minutes. I was told they must be assisting others. This happened multiple times while I was there. Also the alert buzzer I was encouraged to purchase for $[name removed] can go unanswered for just as long. The last 4 to 6 months the services have not been what they were in the beginning . The dining experience was good initially but when all of the kitchen staff quit about the same time the quality of food and service was poor. Pasta with sauce, no meat and potato chips was served one evening for dinner. This was the worse meal I experienced. Wait staff had poor English skills and residents had trouble understanding what was being served. We have located a new facility that I think will be better for my mother

We had some legitimate concerns about staffing. Maybe it is normal, but we experienced MUCH better care when she was moved elsewhere. The food looked decent. The staff was detached and was not very responsive to the wrist alarm. A few times when my mom needed help and we were with her, we went looking for someone after several minutes of waiting and found staff on their phone in a common room (legs tucked on in an easy chair-- did not appear to be working on their phone) or together in a staff room, chatting. When my mom initially moved in, there was a problem with the actual wristwatch (call button) but they swapped it and the responses were still slow. Activities were minimal. The best thing she got there was some one-on-one OT/PT but I don't know if that went much beyond week 1. Not much group mov't or projects, the way we experienced elsewhere. We were very happy to be able to move her after just the respite stay.

Try to get into for a respite period, when we did it, it was 2 weeks, to see what it is really like.

I guess I would say, make sure the facilities manager knows they are moving in. They need much better communication among the staff. The facilities manager didn't know my mother was moving in. The Exec Dir said my mother could stay in the guest room for a week while her apartment was being painted. She didn't know the guest room had been rented by someone else. There were only 3 staff involved and none of them seemed to update the others. My mother's move-in was more stressful than it needed to be because of it.

Check your billing statements!! They were trying to grossly over charge us with care costs. Plus the food is awful and they don't even have stocked ready respite rooms

I was totally mislead and disappointed in the experience at Briar Glen. Overall care of my love one. Constantly shorthanded staff. You may have 1 for every 15 to 20 when I was initially told there was 1 for every 7. Ppl walking around with urine and feces. I will need assistance and instead of helping me with my sister to use the bathroom, they would go all around the facility looking for the person that was in charge of my sister. They were not even busy at the time. I was livid.

The building is old and outdated. Like a ward or hospital instead of a home. Frequently smelled of urine It is way too big for Alzheimer's patients. They cannot find their way. And if your room is at the end of the hall, other residents wander in and out and take things. There are no staff at the back ends of the halls The facility needs to be divided in half with complete staff at both ends.

My mom was in Cedar Ridge Memory Care for five days. The people there are rude [name removed] one of the nurses is demanding and rude and uncaring as a professional could be. The nursing supervisor is equally as so, and staff is untrained how to care for people that are not feeling well and they do not listen to family wishes. my mom was sick. She had a UTI and influenza a and I told them for four days that my mom wasn't feeling well. She needed to get some rest and all they could say to me is well she hasn't complained. She didn't complain to them know she hated it there, but she certainly complained to me and you could see it. She sat in her wheelchair with her head hung. She couldn't talk she wouldn't. She couldn't lift her head. Somebody physically put their hands on my mother and took her out of bed when she told them she didn't feel good. I would never recommend that place and anybody that says that's a good place. They're full of it. It is a horrid place. I would never put my mother back there. She ended up in the ER and admitted to the hospital for six days when she got out of Cedar pointe rehab. She was not sick. She got there on Tuesday to Cedar ridge and on Sunday. I had to take her to the emergency room and they did nothing for her.

Trying to communicate with administrators was terrible. They wouldn't return phone calls or emails. Every month I was disputing charges on our bill. The state was actively investigating when we left. My dad was struggling with losing some of his autonomy and one administrative nurse told him, "If you don't like the way we do things here, you can leave!" So, we did. Staff would sometimes enter my dad's room in the middle of the night, when there was no reason warranted. The residents collectively did not seem very happy living there.

The communication between the facility and the residents medical team and family lacks. It seems to me the facility would rather talk to the family and go around the resident. The nurse on site doesn't appear to want to learn from visiting nurses how to care for particular medical issues and they do not follow the medication protocols very well.

Our experience with the sales person was extremely positive and in large part the reason we chose this facility. There is a lack of communication between staff, my mother’s medication has been repeatedly mishandled in spite of my constant follow up with her doctor and the clinical director. There is an unpleasant smell of feces constantly on the second floor. While some of the nursing aide staff is friendly, there are a handful that sit at the station laughing and joking with each other, but rude when you approach with a question. Their phone system has been messed up since we got there so you cannot leave a voicemail message for anyone. The food has not been made to order as promised, so it’s cold and sometimes congealed so we are buying food for my mother . No schedule was ever given to my mother if us to let her know when to expect her clothes being washed, her showers, housekeeping, etc. We have had to ask for every bit of information and it has not even been correct.

We were not fans of Brookdale. The staff didn't do a good job keeping him or the room clean. Understaffed. Nice caretakers but inexperienced. Felt like we were sold an experience for my dad that it just did not live up to.

I was totally surprised the day the contract was signed. So legal. Also, the activity fee ($[fee removed]) was very steep and i dont remember it being mentioned. My husband stayed 5 days then went to hospital after my insisting and stayed three weeks. I had to pay two months and est. Of 12 days plus fee without him even being there. Patients are moved out of their rooms after breakfast so staff can watch them. Just be sure someone checks in on them VERY frequently. Nurse is very busy just giving medicines. Caretakers seemed to be fairly kind.

The atmosphere is one of sorrow, loneliness distress and prevalent sadness. I have already tried to break my breakable but AT ASTONISHING EXPENSE! Will be leaving the minute my lease expires. MANY here are doing the SAME, that's why rooms are available.

The staff is unfriendly. They do not pay attention to patient care needs. Sales people are pushy. No activities. No communication. People wandering halls going into others rooms.
