Be very careful before moving here.

Please be very cautious about this facility. They do not adhere to the legal terms of their lease agreements. Additionally, maintenance leaves a great deal to be desired. Just ask residents of the west building how many months there were open buckets to catch rain water from a leaking roof on the 3rd floor.

Beware of escalating costs/bad management

Beware. This facility will escalate the level of care cost 30 days after move in by 20% up tp 800% of what u signed up for. Initial cost around 5k. First escalation at 30d mark up to 5.8k with potential to go to 8k per month. Front office will not talk to u or return calls. Exec director requires two week notice for face2face meeting then cancels. Finance office raides ur bank account without notice with "costs" without ur agreement. Cant get free of residency agreement without 45d notice and $1,000 min. "Move out" penalty compensation. Sad too as direct hands on care staff are really good at interaction with resident even though they work short staffed and with little support. Housekeeping is good and Chef [name removed] makes some above average meals with good presentation and variety. This is a sagora property.

Nice Looking Facility, Provision of Services Problematic

The facility looks very nice. The staff are friendly, seem caring, and are kind to residents. If your family member needs oxygen monitoring or management, this is NOT the place for them. Our main priority in choosing this facility last August, was oxygen management and monitoring. We were assured they were capable of providing this service. Oxygen monitoring and management has been an ongoing problem for 10 1/2 months. It is a roller coaster ride. Weekends have been a problem, weekdays are somewhat better. It will be good for a week or two, then back to the same problems of our loved one walking to an activity or a meal at the beginning of red, then it's at the bottom of red when they are ready to return to their apartment. NO one changed it, or even knew what the level was. Our family members had to finally begin dropping in to check on it to make sure our loved one wasn't walking without enough oxygen to last an hour for meals or an activity, and the return to their room. This has caused stress, frustration, and at times anger that management is unable to put a plan in place to resolve this issue. Poly blend clothing returns from the laundry so severely wrinkled that it is not wearable. Towels, and other laundry items become lost and staff or family has to go look for the items. There are choices for meals, however the food is fair at best. No one expects it to be gourmet, however you do expect a hamburger to be cooked through, a grilled cheese to have melted cheese in it, soup to not taste like boullian cubes. Some herbs would improve the taste of items and not compromise health issues residents might have. There has been a lot of staff turnover during the past several months. It seems that staff needs more training, and accountability from supervisors. No place is perfect, however I don't think it is unreasonable for assisted living communities to be accountable for the services they are supposed to provide. I believe 10 1/2 months is a reasonable amount of time to put a plan into place that will work while providing better care for residents. This has been a very disappointing experience.

Although the location was great we just didn’t feel like this was the right place for mom. On the day we visited there was some type of outing and there was hardly any residents there to see or talk to so it felt kind of empty. It seemed clean enough but not particularly friendly but again, we really didn’t see many people, staff or residents. It just isn’t the right fit for her.

Very depressing atmosphere

When I first walked in here, I was immediately depressed. I knew right away that my Dad wouldn’t want to live here. He’s a very lively man with a lot of energy and this place was very dark and gloomy. Even just walking up to the facility, there was a woman sitting out front with her walker and she looked depressed. The girl that gave us the tour was nice and everything, but it wasn’t for us. It didn’t feel right to have my Dad live here.

You're only paying for room, food, and activities.

The building was lovely and seemed really nice. This facility just didn't fit my idea of what I wanted. When I visited, some of the residents were playing a bean bag toss. The one thing I really noticed is there wasn't a comradery amongst staff and residents. The other thing I noticed is that you're really only paying for your room, activities, and food. The biggest reason why I did not join the community is that they don't offer continuing care. They don't provide any kind of nursing care. If you need anything, you have to pay for a home health care nurse to come in. And of course, that is going to add an extra bill on top of everything. I would not recommend this facility.

Promised care did not happen ..

My brother in law was a recent short-term resident. The care that was promised did not meet expectations. [Removed] is a diabetic, and although we were assured there would be personnel available round the clock to monitor, and when necessary, provide aid to control his illness, that simply was not the case. It is clearly apparent, particularly at night, that the facility is understaffed to address the needs of a diabetic resident. Meal choices, to meet [Removed]diabetic problems were also very limited and sometimes not available at all. The staff that did interact with [Removed] were kind and helpful, but staff turnover is an apparent problem.

The staff is not very organized. Getting a return phone call (even after 3 days of waiting) is impossible. I had to call on the fourth day and insist on speaking with the charge nurse. Now, 6 weeks later, I scheduled a meeting with this same director of nursing, had confirmation via email, took off work, drove 30 minutes to meet her at the Veraden, got there and learned that she had double booked my meeting time with a staff meeting. I asked when she would be free and was told it would be over 2 hours before she was out of meetings. I did not get a phone call or email in advance to let me know there was a problem with the meeting time. On my way out, I came across the new director, told her what had happened, and all she could say was "I'm so sorry" which is the only thing I heard from any of them. Well, I agree, they are sorry! The director didn't even offer to help me. The building is nice, but the services are not yet organized, delivered efficiently, and certainly, the administration is still learning how to deliver customer service. It makes me angry to think about paying nearly $4000 at the first of this next month. I could go on, but I think my message is clear. AND, I have worked in health care for over 35 years, so I do understand how to take care of people with decency and respect

Beautiful Place But Not A Good Experience

We were very excited when we toured this community. It looked beautiful and the staff seemed to be very nice and friendly and we felt very comfortable leaving mom her while we were out of town. However, the experience turned out to be horrible. Mom was ignored by the staff the whole time she was there. We were promised that someone would go get her for meals which never happened the only way mom made it to any meals was her roommate's private aide took her down for meal time. We had left certain medication rubs for the nursing staff to put on my mother they were brand new unopened tubes and when we picked her up they had never been opened which meant they never did what we asked. They did not fulfill any promises that were made to us in regards to caring for my mother. Never go on appearances they can be deceiving.

Not A Good Experience With The CEO

We had to move my mother to an another community, because she needed more care. This is a nice community with good people. The only issue I had was with the CEO. He does not care out the seniors in his community. They have a good staff, but the CEO was not a good experience.

Not Impressed

I was not impressed with my tour of this community. I toured the memory care portion for my mother, and her needs. The lady I made the appointment with was not available. The person that gave me the tour didn't really seem to know what they were taking about. From the start it just left a bad taste in mouth.

Not the Best Choice

This is an attractive facility, but my experience with Harbor Chase was marginal. The food was not very good, and they frequently did not have items that were supposed to be on the menu. Resident activities (unimaginative to begin with) were frequently canceled or changed at the last minute. I often had to clean my mother's apartment because housekeeping was inadequate. Maintenance was poor; my mother went for days without air conditioning on several occasions. The rent was raised substantially just a few months after moving in. My mother complained that at times they failed to order her medication in a timely manner, and she went for days without one or more of her medications. I had considerable difficulty with accounting failing to credit payments that had been made. There were some good staff members, and some positive experiences, but overall, I think this is a substandard and over-priced facility by community standards. My mother eventually moved out when issues were not addressed and services continued to deteriorate.

The location of this facility is a negative because it takes my parents further away from the area where they want to stay.
