Unhappy With The Atmosphere

The care was not good and I took my mom as soon as possible. I saw feces on the windowsill and in the toilets. There was dirty underwear left on the floor. From the activity sheet it listed watching Jeopardy and put them all in one room. I tried to walk her outside but they refused. The community is big but not the memory care and half the staff do not speak English. We counted on them as professional but they were not capable of providing care. They also gave her the wrong medications while she was here.

Do not recommend

Place is awful. Caregivers not found, wrong meds given, room not clean, sheets not changed for over a month, no towels or toilet paper in bathroom. Other people's clothing including opposite sex in closet. Bathroom floor always a mess. Would not recommend. No personal attention at all. Witnessed residents fall, slide out of chairs, soil themselves, and nobody around to help. Residents smell badly. Only positive is the activity people are always friendly and caring. I have nursing experience and the caregivers here are inadequate. For the cost of care here, things should be so much better.

Not even for respite

My wife and I were impressed by the sales woman Kay. She told us her background, that she had a nursing background and she was the most knowledgeable when it came to dementia. We felt the executive director Tracy was friendly and thought we picked the right place. We thought Kay was going to be more involved in my mom's care from the way she talked to us. That is where her help ended. The staff is not anywhere near as trained or knowledgeable about dementia. The nurse was awful to deal with and the caregivers had no clue what was going on. Half the time I had trouble tracking one down or did not know who worked there. Some of the aides wore jeans, big head scarves, and many of them played games on their cellular phones. Maybe it is possible at one time this facility had a better reputation but I recently moved my mother out of this facility. My wife, sister, and I were rushed looking for a facility for mom. Kay offered us a 30 day respite and we could NOT even stay a week. The price we were quoted was not the bottom line as we were told. In less than a week we had to hire private duty care 24-7 on top of the price of the room mom was in. One of the benefits we saw was that it looked all inclusive. I found out from the aide that she had worked with other unhappy families at the facility and it was not her first time there. In less than 4 days my mom fell and broke her collar bone, I still have not been given the true story (there were 3 versions given to us). To make matters worse we found 3 different medications in mom's bed and clothes. We were told that is typical when we mentioned the pills. I called the original senior advisor back when we wanted mom out of there and she told us to look up the state survey, which I did not know existed before we picked Arden. They had multiple infractions and I do not know how they are still licensed. Seems to me someone should go in and check the books and the patients. It was the senior advisor who told my sister and I to question the facility about the medications we found because they are known to have a problem. She told us not all Arden Courts had a bad reputation as this one and that they had turned over most of the staff including directors and nurses. Luckily my mom is safe and out of there.

Don't even think about this place.

This place was a nightmare at best. Won't get into specifics but trust me, this place is not suitable for animals let alone humans. Lie after lie was told to us and nothing was ever addressed. The head nurse is just as bad if not worse because more is expected from a medical professional. Many residents with stitches, scabs and/or casts from falls, due to no one watching or engaging the residents. Care givers don't care about anything, dressing people in other peoples clothes even though name is clearly labeled on garment, changing resident when wet/soiled etc. Apparently this place was very good until management changed a couple of years ago. What a shame it went to hell.

Buyer Beware! It Doesn't Need to be Gold but it best be Worthwhile!

Honestly, I would not even give The Silverado Memory Care center in the Woodlands one star. They talk a good game but the reality is 180 degrees in the opposite direction. They will speak with you very sweetly and politely but the management is sorely lacking. When we arrived they guided us to what they called a temporary room. It had broken furniture, blinds that were bent, mismatched bedding, a chest of drawers that was so dirty it had to be cleaned before we could put anything in. It took me almost 2 1/2 hours to fill out the paperwork, the old fashion way of writing your name and address over and over on document after document. I was offered lunch that was more like a meal kids would receive in a school cafeteria. My loved one had to stay there 2 weeks before we could make arrangements for him to transfer. He told me that the food was either bad or cold, especially the breakfasts. The staff was so disorganized that on the first night of his stay, I was emailing his medication chart so that they would know which meds to give him. They told me they had all the medical records, when in fact they did not. Never did I imagine that I would find the staff's children hanging out with the residents, I myself witness the children there playing ping pong. I was told how the recreation programs were scientifically designed, really do you believe that ping pong and bingo are researched design to help with memory loss. I feel the most offensive actions by Silverado were encouraging me to bring my loved one there, knowing that he was a high functioning resident. Their encouragement with the words, "you have done all you can do for your loved one, this is not a job for me but my passion, bring him here to Silverado (we were locating to The Woodlands in Houston, TX) and we will do the rest." My experience with Silverado Memory Care in the Woodlands was absolutely a nightmare and I write this review so others will be able to avoid the disappointment and stress that I have incurred. Interestingly enough, they say you get what you pay for, but their prices were high, and we still did not get anything near what we paid for. We felt like we were in a GoodWill used furniture store, not a well run Memory Care Center. My loved one has moved on to another facility and Silverado continues to make things difficult for us. This was especially evident today when we tried to get our medical records. This is not a well run organization. I am afraid that having the corporate office in California gives the facility in Texas to get away with very unorthodox actions.

U.S. Memory Care is a nightmare, a wolf in sheep's clothing

From the deepest, most sincere recesses of my heart, I strongly recommend and implore any family member to NEVER entrust your loved one's care to U.S. Memory Care Vintage. The facility is lovely -- a "Main Street" interior concept with a beauty shop, movie theater, soda fountain, etc. Unfortunately, it is merely a "front" or facade to a poorly managed care facility with little knowledge of memory care. Despite their statements to the contrary, the facility is perpetually understaffed AND the caregivers are not versed nor trained in true memory care or dementia disease management. This severe shortcoming is a reflection of the leadership's incompetence. I have personally heard, witnessed and been an active participant in conversations with "leadership" that lack professionalism and are in direct violation of a patient's rights. This organization's lack of accountability is squeezing the life out of families for the next nickel in their coffers. Please find another facility. There are many in the Houston area. Good luck to you and your family. -tg

Stay away from this sinking ship

Please take the time if you go and tour US Memory Care, that you do so with eyes wide open! Not really sure what their acumen is but it is not for the well being of the residents. Good families ( and yes, there have been several) who have been there for months are getting 30 day eviction notices for behaviors that are in sync with dementia and Alzheimer's, but because it is just easier to kick people out instead of being knowledgable in the disease it is just easier to give them the boot I guess. The COO has turned a blind eye in many people's opinion and the ED, who is rarely there is left to run wild. The facility has become dirty and unacceptable as a place to leave a family member. Caregivers are either leaving on their own or being fired, which leaves fewer care givers to assist residents. Existing families are currently looking for other places before this ship sinks. How does a company who is in the business to take care of human beings with memory care needs, sleep at night with this kind of leadership. Pretty on the outside, ugly on the inside.

Not the place it used to be

This used to be a wonderful facility, where we felt comfortable in choosing for my mothers care, safety and well being. I can't say enough great things about the caregivers, culinary team, maintenance and activities ladies; they are great and care for these residents. I do however have a serious problem with the director that was brought in April to replace the previous director. There is a serious lack of communication and interest between this director and family members, which is a shame. So many things could be different if an attitude adjustment would be made and a true concern for the residents and family would take priority over "the business". Temp caregivers had been brought in to cover the regular caregivers hours that were cut. There are never enough caregivers and these residents are not familiar with these temps. There have also been days when there wasn't an lvn on duty, but one that they could "call on the phone". Not a good system when things can happen so quickly with dementia/Alzheimer's patients. Please think twice to see if things can get turned around.

Unfriendly staff, poor care, expert in Alzheimer's but yet they hire anyone off the street. Worry at night if anyone fed your loved one. Swinging management door--large corporation with only worry of making $$$. Building looks like no updates in 14 years.

Run!

Very poorly ran facility. The worst turnover rate I have ever seen. Disorganized, poor communication, chronically understaffed. The caregivers aren't even CNAs, and there is only one actual RN who is only there weekdays.

beautiful building, but very poorly run. The worst turnover rate I have ever seen. Poor communication, chronically short-staffed. Caregivers very minimally trained, not even actual CNAs!

Disappointed

This is my second review...the first one I had posted after my parents had been in Linden just a few months. At that time, I did not see the full picture. After nearly 2 years, we have moved my parents to another facility, for several reasons. During this time, I have spent enough time at Linden to say that I would not recommend it for a person who requires memory care. Thought the number of residents is limited to 16 in each of the cottages, there are just 2 caregivers at any time caring for the residents. Many need more care than these 2 caregivers can provide. I was sometimes there when no one was around. I assume they were other residents, but it's somewhat disconcerting that there may be 6 or more residents in the TV area and no caregiver in sight. We also had a number of personal belongings go "missing"...residents do wander from room to room, since bedroom doors are not locked, but a few valuable things were taken, including 2 hearing aides. If you know the cost of them, you know the value of what's been lost. Though clothing was clearly marked and done by staff there in the building, many items were misplaced and never returned. After visiting other facilities and seeing the activities offered and caring staff, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Had a different option been available when we needed it, knowing what we now know, we'd have selected another facility. We spoke with the staff, directors, and nurses several times regarding concerns about the care and needs of my parents and others living there. For the most part, if addressed at all, it was temporary. My entire family was disappointed in the care given to our loved ones and to all other parents, wives and husbands of other families who reside there. I will be sharing this review with their current director. My strong recommendation is that you spend LOTS of time in whatever facility you think you might be choosing. The 'tours' show you the best...look at the rest.

Not recommended

They have poor management and untrained staff. Found that many medications were not administered. My loved ones's clothes were always filthy and personal hygiene was not a priority for the residents. Beware of evening (after 5) and weekend staff.

Prejudice lives here

This building is beautiful and mostly welcoming, however the director of engagement obviously racially profiled me on my visit. As an African American health care professional I visited this family for a class. I was in line behind seven other people and I was the only one questioned about what I was doing there at te facility. Not only questioned BUT done so very rudely- coincidentally I was also the only black. There aren't any black residents, there were no black visitors and no black people in positions of power- again coincidentally?? Judging by the way I was singled out this is by design

Visited on 5/18. Will not take patients with PleurX catheters. Director claims that no assisted living facility is licensed in Illinois to handle residents with catheters. Facility no longer in consideration.
