My mother was living there, driving a car, and living independently. She had a stroke in July, and she was never able to come back. In general it is a very nice place, she had a nice apartment and really good friends there. The last director left during her illness. She had complaints about this that and the other, which they all do at that age. My mother was lactose intolerant and they didn't really gear the menu for anyone that had that issue so she had great difficulty finding food. We didn't like some of the rules, they are sort of strange but in general it's a nice place. She'd been there for over 8 years. What I do think would be better is if they provided a section with more assistance. You have people living totally independently and something happens and they are never able to return home. There is no in-between section to come back to for help. They had some type of home care program for $20/hour, but they would only come in once in a while. It's not what I would consider assisted living. Some of the residents would talk about the fact that if they got sick, they could never go back to their home. While my mother was there, she mostly sat on her computer and we couldn't get her to be more active. You don't really have that much going on at 87 and she was on the computer like it was her hobby. The Terrace is a good place though for people who can live on their own.

We looked at this community while looking into memory care options for my Dad. The facility itself looked very nice, but I don't think it would have been right for Dad. It was a larger community than what we were looking for, and I feel like with his memory issues it would have been very easy for Dad to get lost. The price ceiling was also very high. It started with an amount we could afford but could almost double based on increasing care needs.

Nice but pricey. I need more information about community fees, activities and menus.

They have lovely people there. The lady that I worked with was just a delightful person but it was too expensive. She did offer me a discount and that was very affordable but the room was but it was on the third floor and it overlooked the parking lot and at that time I was having trouble walking and I also needed assisted living care possibility. They have a lot of activities there and the people were just wonderful. The woman was so gracious and so lovely so I had to call her back and tell her that for health and financial reasons I had to choose another place. She said she understood and she just wanted me to have what I need. I thought that was nice.

The staff provided more relevant information in their materials and presentation than the other facilities giving a good overall impression of an assisted living type of community. The staff was friendly.

The care had been adequate. It's pretty much what my mom needed. I think activity wise they do have some but I would like to see more activities. They've got bingo and they'll have a movie night but each one of those is like once a week and just for one or two hours. My mom isn't able to take advantage of them when they have them just based on the limited amount and the times the do them. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the way they're taking care of my mother.

The cleanliness and care seem to be very good. They have different charges. You have your basic charge and then your care charge on top of that. They have something going all the time. They have bingo, wine socials once a week or so, devotional services, movies, ice cream socials on Sunday afternoons. They have a good number of activities. They have their busses running to various places for the residents too.

My mother stayed at Freedom Pointe for 30 days. She is now back in her home and is very happy to be there. The environment was bright and clean. The staff was friendly and made every effort to meet her needs. I have and will continue to recommend this facility in the future.

They used to be Merrill Gardens. They were great but they can only provide so much care for assisted living so we ended up moving to a board and care home. The care staff was really good the place was really clean and nice. My parents enjoyed the food too so I would recommend them.

This was another one I was considering, beautiful place, big and modern, but two [removed] They had no air conditioning in the halls and elevators which meant that if you left your room you were in the open air and I couldn't imagine summers walking into that. Another thing was tey did not give you all your meals and you had to have your meals at certain times which was very restrictive I felt.

We moved my mom in at the end of August and she's settled in just fine, so far so good. She's meeting lots of people and engaging in the activities and generally enjoying it so far. They had some sort of dance night and song night, karaoke I guess, and she took the bus to get groceries and shes talked about going to a race track sometime. They replaced the air conditioning rather promptly, house cleaning comes in every week and so far everything seems fine. They keep the property very nice actually, it's an older unit but it's definitely not a dump. I just don't give people 5's unless I've dealt with them personally.

It was just the location that was inconvenient for me here. It's clean and the people were very friendly. It's a mirror image to the facility in Clear Lake from the facility itself to the people that work there. The Clear Lake location was closer to me.

We looked at this when it was still the Merrill Gardens. I liked it and my mom and other siblings liked it. It was the oldest of the three places we looked at but it was well kept. I liked the dining situation. It was just like a restaurant. You had selections to choose from and breakfast wasn't from 8 - 9, it was from whenever they opened the dining room until lunch. Then it was open until 7 and you can go anytime - it was up to you. We really liked that feature.

We moved our aunt in there. She is so picky, the food portion is not the best. She's paying for food and she either doesn't like it, is in the hospital, or won't go down to the dining room. It would be nice if that could be paid for as used. They're very good except they're not good at returning phone calls so sometimes it takes them a while to get back to us. She's been in and out of the hospital since she's been there so she hasn't spend a lot of time there. She's been on one bus trip to the grocery store and like the bingo.

Pleasant facility, close to Northside and St. Jo's medical community. Seniors appeared active, many were in the dining room having dinner, and quite a lot of talking. Anytime dining is a nice option they have. Looked at 1BR, approx. 500sqft, sink and fridge, can bring microwave. Mom and Dad could be comfortable, I think. Hallways had chair rail ledge to grasp and walk around the facility. Lots of sitting areas in hallway, but a little sterile, not inviting. didn't see anyone using them. Allows for independent and assisted living together, but no memory care. Main concern would be whether Mom could get sufficient care if Dad were gone for most of the day, for example. Not sure she would be able to find the dining room on her own, unless room was close to it. 113 units, 44 men, lots of couples, wait lists for studios and 2BR, one 1BR available

The room that they had available was small and they only had the one room available. The other thing was that it was a little bit older looking and a little worn. The lady that we know that lives there loves it! She says the people there are just so friendly and helpful. She was disappointed when we decided not to place my brother-in-law there. She loves it so that's some thing.

They're really cleanly and the staff tries their best, I'll give em that. The cost is pretty good. It's kind of high but then again they all are. They clean the apartment once a week and the food is pretty good. I haven't done as many things as I would like to. They go out to eat on a monthly basis and they go places like the museum and other place I would be interested in. The only thing I have a problem with is some of the lifestyle changes. They're trying to be something they're not sometimes I think. Overall, they do a pretty good job. This was my first choice because they were close to the medical center and some other things. In Houston, this is probably the best place to be as far as transportation.

We revisited this again today 8/26/13 and found the outdoor area very inviting and the rooms a perfect size. There was lots of activity going on with lots of resident participation.

I liked that one. They were nice and I liked the way their eating situation was set up. Their food was open from 7 in the morning to 7 at night and you can go whenever.

She's very happy there, its the only one I've seen but the staff all seems up and caring. I don't know much about the activities at this time but it's been positive and I thought they had nice grounds and there certainly were pleasant surroundings. I don't think there's any concerns, they saw 2 or 3 places and may have chose it due to locality. The food was pretty good, there was a good, positive change with our loved one, she gets dressed to go to meals and stuff liek that so that's a good thing, she looked real good when we went up there.
