My mother stayed at Freedom Pointe for 30 days. She is now back in her home and is very happy to be there. The environment was bright and clean. The staff was friendly and made every effort to meet her needs. I have and will continue to recommend this facility in the future.

They used to be Merrill Gardens. They were great but they can only provide so much care for assisted living so we ended up moving to a board and care home. The care staff was really good the place was really clean and nice. My parents enjoyed the food too so I would recommend them.

This was another one I was considering, beautiful place, big and modern, but two [removed] They had no air conditioning in the halls and elevators which meant that if you left your room you were in the open air and I couldn't imagine summers walking into that. Another thing was tey did not give you all your meals and you had to have your meals at certain times which was very restrictive I felt.

We moved my mom in at the end of August and she's settled in just fine, so far so good. She's meeting lots of people and engaging in the activities and generally enjoying it so far. They had some sort of dance night and song night, karaoke I guess, and she took the bus to get groceries and shes talked about going to a race track sometime. They replaced the air conditioning rather promptly, house cleaning comes in every week and so far everything seems fine. They keep the property very nice actually, it's an older unit but it's definitely not a dump. I just don't give people 5's unless I've dealt with them personally.

It was just the location that was inconvenient for me here. It's clean and the people were very friendly. It's a mirror image to the facility in Clear Lake from the facility itself to the people that work there. The Clear Lake location was closer to me.

We looked at this when it was still the Merrill Gardens. I liked it and my mom and other siblings liked it. It was the oldest of the three places we looked at but it was well kept. I liked the dining situation. It was just like a restaurant. You had selections to choose from and breakfast wasn't from 8 - 9, it was from whenever they opened the dining room until lunch. Then it was open until 7 and you can go anytime - it was up to you. We really liked that feature.

We moved our aunt in there. She is so picky, the food portion is not the best. She's paying for food and she either doesn't like it, is in the hospital, or won't go down to the dining room. It would be nice if that could be paid for as used. They're very good except they're not good at returning phone calls so sometimes it takes them a while to get back to us. She's been in and out of the hospital since she's been there so she hasn't spend a lot of time there. She's been on one bus trip to the grocery store and like the bingo.

Pleasant facility, close to Northside and St. Jo's medical community. Seniors appeared active, many were in the dining room having dinner, and quite a lot of talking. Anytime dining is a nice option they have. Looked at 1BR, approx. 500sqft, sink and fridge, can bring microwave. Mom and Dad could be comfortable, I think. Hallways had chair rail ledge to grasp and walk around the facility. Lots of sitting areas in hallway, but a little sterile, not inviting. didn't see anyone using them. Allows for independent and assisted living together, but no memory care. Main concern would be whether Mom could get sufficient care if Dad were gone for most of the day, for example. Not sure she would be able to find the dining room on her own, unless room was close to it. 113 units, 44 men, lots of couples, wait lists for studios and 2BR, one 1BR available

The room that they had available was small and they only had the one room available. The other thing was that it was a little bit older looking and a little worn. The lady that we know that lives there loves it! She says the people there are just so friendly and helpful. She was disappointed when we decided not to place my brother-in-law there. She loves it so that's some thing.

They're really cleanly and the staff tries their best, I'll give em that. The cost is pretty good. It's kind of high but then again they all are. They clean the apartment once a week and the food is pretty good. I haven't done as many things as I would like to. They go out to eat on a monthly basis and they go places like the museum and other place I would be interested in. The only thing I have a problem with is some of the lifestyle changes. They're trying to be something they're not sometimes I think. Overall, they do a pretty good job. This was my first choice because they were close to the medical center and some other things. In Houston, this is probably the best place to be as far as transportation.

We revisited this again today 8/26/13 and found the outdoor area very inviting and the rooms a perfect size. There was lots of activity going on with lots of resident participation.

I liked that one. They were nice and I liked the way their eating situation was set up. Their food was open from 7 in the morning to 7 at night and you can go whenever.

She's very happy there, its the only one I've seen but the staff all seems up and caring. I don't know much about the activities at this time but it's been positive and I thought they had nice grounds and there certainly were pleasant surroundings. I don't think there's any concerns, they saw 2 or 3 places and may have chose it due to locality. The food was pretty good, there was a good, positive change with our loved one, she gets dressed to go to meals and stuff liek that so that's a good thing, she looked real good when we went up there.

My sister toured this place instead of me. She was very impressed and really enjoyed the tour. Unfortunately they can't accommodate my handicap brother to move in with him. So I'm afraid this won't workout for us.

Swimming pool and spa. Only weekday meals; two/day. Full kitchen for rest of meals in room. Close to hwy 45.

Their motto is "Many to Many" but I felt like my loved one needed more one on one personal care. It seems like this community is just too big for the type of care that we were looking for, needed more focused care for our loved one.

Visited 7/27; A list

We had been looking at several places but the Terrace stood way out in front of the others because of the size and layout of the room. There's a remodel of the dining room in progress that should be finished in August, and I believe that they're getting new tables and chairs. It's a little rough because there's 2 eating times and mom has had trouble finding chairs because people have been getting there ahead of her. I've never seen dust or footprints anywhere else. They've kept it contained very, very well. The remodelers stop working during meals and that's very nice. There are new fans in all of the hallways, it's really pretty. Some of the other ones were in really bad shape, so that's nice, but on the first floor, they've redone the concrete sidewalk in the in-between area that will stay clean and clean easier. They will be continuing on the 2nd and 3rd floor (it wasn't sealed and is very stained). I would give the elevators a 1 out of 5 for cleanliness (they smell like garbage when you get in them, like someone's just emptied a garbage truck in there). I'm hoping that the tile in the elevators is non-slip because it is slippery when it's wet. The staff is very good. I had to fax a few things to them to remind them of some things that they said would be taken care of when Mom moved in (carpets have not been cleaned - there's a very stubborn stain that could be paint but it was not cleaned on moving in.). My mother's very happy with how the staff have answered questions and taken her feedback, though. There is a wet mark on her ceiling that may indicate a leak somewhere in the attic. Mom enjoys the food (she's not a foodie or anything like that) but it's usually something she likes, and they have a very versatile menu so you can have something else if you don't like what's being served as the meal of the day, and I think that's wonderful. I think they are very accommodating with that. There's a little box out in front so you can buzz yourself in if you come to visit. My mom says that she feels very very safe there, and she's talked to other women who've lived there for a long time and they also feel safe and comfortable. Care Mom has a life-alert pendant, but she has to be careful with it because she accidentally pushed the button when she was moving in and someone was right there asking "Are you okay?" I think they do very well. They have a bus for trips to Walgreen's and several other trips (bank runs, etc). I like how everything is available to her, I think it's really good that they provide that for her. I feel that the Terrace is the place to go.

Toured on July 6 with Community Relations Director. Very pleasant and energized atmosphere. Residents appeared to be happy and engaged. Community targets active residents who want to maintain/improve level of health. The bedroom of the regular 1-bedroom floor plan is very very small. In an effort to feel less like a facility, caregivers do not use carts. This community has a much higher male to female ratio. Meals are not served on a schedule, but are available throughout the day. There are several meal choices. Very active calendar.

Liked it, didn't see memory care so will go and see.
