I would never recommend this place to anyone after the tour I had experienced for my mother. The staff where very rude to me and unprofessional and I was not pleased by that. The overall atmosphere was depressing and there was not one good thing I can say about this place to anyone. i would never put my mother in a facility like this one.

Sales assistant showed studio assisted living rooms;however, nurse assessment - needs memory care facility, so need to see and get new price Otherwise, seems nice

My family member has been extremely unhappy since moving to tanglewood oaks. Care and food specifically have been awful. I've eaten once and you couldn't pay me money to eat there again and I had a fruit plate thinking no way could that be awful but I was very wrong. My family member who is living there feels that most of the issues are related to the administration and not staff. As much as the elderly resist change we are making a costly and very disruptive move. Think long and hard before placing a loved one at this facility.

My mother is doing okay, she is currently in the hospital. We are figuring out where she will go once she is released. I do have my concerns about this community. They are lacking in caring for their residents, and their needs. The staff needs to be more attentive, and helpful. Also they have not followed through with many of the promises that were in our contract. When we bring our issues up to the director. They say they will fix the issues, but nothing changes. They are slow to respond when needed for help. They do a good job with the cleanliness, and the meals are nice. Overall we have had a lot of challenges with this community.

My parent has been at Brookdale Dunwoody during the transition when Brookdale bought the facility. Brookdale Dunwoody has continued to go down in services and my family and I are looking at other facilities. The food has reached a new low since my parent has been living there. The community of residents has had many meetings so management is well aware that residents are not happy with the quality, presentation and variety. My parent has told me that some residents will no longer eat in the dining room. But my family and I are most concerned about the lack of security in the building. Since August there have been many thefts in resident apartments. I was told that three weeks ago, during Sunday lunch, two apartments were entered by thieves - doors left open. There is no security of the building - anyone can enter without identification. Residents do not have electronic keys for outside doors (like other facilities have) so the very old password for outside doors allows lots of people to enter. Management has been aware of the theft problem since August and nothing is being done. I have been told by a new resident that management tells new residents not to bring anything valuable to their apartment. What a sad situation that a senior citizen has to worry about being robbed in their residence!

We had a bad experience within 5 days of moving in. They did not do as they said. I found wet undergarments and wet pull ups on the floor and pull ups with feces on top of her closet. No one was there overnight for 24 hour care. When signing her out, my husband had to search for a staff. In the memory care there was papers all over the place and no one was there. They misplaced her glasses and didn't tell us she was out of her medication. It seemed like the greatest place when interviewing but they did not do what we paid for. We are just not happy with them.

The manager was friendly, welcoming, and eager to give a tour. Unfortunately, the building smelled like smoke and must on all three floors. There were several wheelchair residents parked in the hallways that were either asleep or disengaged. It felt like I was at a creepy motel.

I have a relative at Brookdale. When we were given the tour before relative moved in it seemed great. We needed memory care so we had a tour of the cottages. They told us 2 caregivers for 12 residents at all times. They spoke of all the activities and in summer the outside bbq and summer activities. It seemed great . Then my relative was moved in... It went from bad to worse. They had a calendar with activities and NONE of them except once a month singing every happened. Residients just sat in chairs all day. Often there is only 1 caregiver to 12 residents so if the caregiver is busy with a resident the others are out of luck! The staff is not well trained and the situations that occur and dangerous . There is also a lot of neglect of residents!! Many of the safety features do not work such as the pull cords. Staff is also very overworked and at times often doing double shifts resulting in very tired worker. Administrator doesn't return calls. Think long and hard before you put a loved one in this facility. Spend some time there and don't beleive everything they say on your tour. My relative is soon to move out of this facility

Since Brookdale took over, this place has gone downhill. Many long term staff members are leaving and cleanliness is slipping. It concerns me to see this facility rated so highly when clearly the bottom line is not patient care, but the almighty dollar.

No personel for appointment and nasty. Walked in and out of memory after receiving security code from vendor. one star

Staff was unknowledgeable about basic rules and regulations and at one point, staff was seen rolling eyes at a resident. Completely unprofessional. Definite NO.

My mother was there for a month before they checked her sugar levels! And they were giving her insulin daily! Nurses don't seem to care and rarely answer the call button in less than 10 or 15 minutes. I would hate to have an emergency and have to wait for them to walk down the hall to my room. Also, she had her [removed] while there along with several other elderly patients. Very expensive. I was told that once insurance ran out that it was going to be $250 a day. Way not worth the price.

This place is a disaster. They haven't had a manager in 18 months. No chef for months. No activities director at all, and nothing but a LVN was nothing but trouble. They do not have the people or ability to assist the elderly that live there. I have moved Mother out and brought her home with me for Christmas and then I am looking for a Nursing home. She need more help than Merrill Gardens can provide. Just to give her 3 pills a day 3 am and 2 pm they were charging Mother $610.00 per month. Her Doctor said he had never had such a unorganized and unco-operative home for the elderly.

My loved one was admitted and immediately fell. There were times the staff forgot to bring food for my loved one. The door was heavy and my loved one couldn't open the door to the hallway. There was an appointment that was scheduled, and the the staff didn't assist with the call for my loved one, while I was out of town. They allowed both drivers off on the same day my loved one had an appointment. The community told me that if I paid more, I would get better care for my loved one. I feel they lied about everything. They promised me they would help with the special needs of my loved one and they never did. The staff kept telling us that they were short staffed.

My loved one was there 8 weeks and she lost 20 pounds. I don't feel like my loved one was taken care of. Communication was not good and we were not kept updated with what was going on with my loved one. I would not recommend this community to others.

During the time our loved one was there, they fell numerous times from bed and had cuts and bruises. One fall the community called us to let us know it was nothing serious, but a week later our loved one went to the hospital, they took an x-ray and their hand had been fractured for a week. They were not administering the medication correctly, everyday something was wrong. They were supposed to get a medication patch everyday, and sometimes he would have multiple patched on, old patches or no patches on. They called us early in the morning saying our loved one was threatening anyone who came into the room, but after talking to the psychiatrist they believed it was because they were defending themselves. Dementia can change your whole personality, however our loved one is the kindest person and has never been in a fight their entire life.

There has been such a high turnover of staff. I'm having to make requests over and over again. I feel all the good people have left. Whispering Winds of Apple Valley just raised the rent on us. The fees will be removed daily and not monthly like it used to be. The food is horrible and the food is cold when it is delivered to the residents. I have nothing good to say about Whispering Winds of Apple Valley.

I can’t say enough about this place as far as how bad it is. Main thing being severely understaffed. The DRS seems bothered or annoyed when you try to talk to her about your family members care plan. She always has a tone about her that comes across hateful. I’ve been told a week after positive testing on a resident that staff still hasn’t been tested and only just tested residents. Can’t see my dad to know for sure he is safe. Can’t get straight answers from anyone. Calls go unreturned. Only a handful of aids care the rest just don’t care at all and it is evident in their attitudes.

I just paid my bill. My Bill is never the same. Care levels are going up and down and misc charges etc. nobody know what they are doing.
