Family experience with memory care - would not recommend.

Memory care was understaffed, no activities on the weekends, and residents often isolated in their rooms because there was nothing to do. Memory care lacked the appropriate care staff for the level of care required. Administrative staff - welcoming and available. Meals were not diabetic friendly, food was often served cold, and Memory care residents were not offered choices. Memory care had some activities during the week days but nothing on the weekends. Not impressed when a resident had to wait for over an hour to use the restroom with assistance after pressing her button.

my mom died after being here

My mom was a military veteran and had always been a very healthy and independent woman until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. When she developed complications from severe constipation after spending only 7 months in memory care at the Gardens, we were completely caught off guard when we were told that she needed to FIND CARE ELSEWHERE, IMMEDIATELY. I've been a healthcare provider for 25 years and was mortified with how we were treated. In my opinion I suspect her constipation was related to lack of physical activity and basic nursing care, which they agreed to provide when they accepted her money. I highly recommend looking at ANY OTHER place for anyone with dementia. She spent her last month of life between the hospital and a nurse-run adult family home close to us, which provided a higher quality of care at half the cost. Though my mom passed a month ago, we are still being charged for 45 days of care that she wasn't there for and never provided. Please look elsewhere.

Review for The Courtyards at Mountain View

I would give The Courtyards a zero if I could. When I first toured the facility, it was all show — a complete dog and pony act. But once my brother in law was admitted, the reality set in. The staff is clearly not trained to handle challenging or uncomfortable situations. After just three days, my brother-in- law was sent to the hospital twice, and then told he could not return. Despite this, I was charged the full[amount removed]for the month. I was promised a partial refund, told it had been mailed — but weeks later, nothing. No check, no communication. My calls and emails have been completely ignored. When I went to collect his belongings, I found a pile of soiled clothing and discovered that items, including a new pair of shoes, were missing. I would never recommend this facility to anyone. Beware. the administrator I originally spoke with, seemed only interested in the money — and now refuses to return calls.

Poor communication-felt ripped off!

We paid over $[removed] K, and my sister Stayed there three nights. She was in the hospital the rest of the time. They did not tell us they were not taking her back until I called to see if they were picking her up from the hospital, or I was. They charged the whole amount, because her things were still in her room. The day they inform me she would not be allowed back, I rested the 160 miles to get them out that night! The money for the remainder of the month was not refunded. When a decision was made that the facility was not appropriate for her, I should have been informed immediately! I was left in the lurch trying to find another place immediately when she was released from the hospital, which I was not able to do. She had to sleep at a friend's house until we could make other arrangements! I cleaned out the room immediately on the day I asked for her to be picked up, enlisting emergency help from a couple of friends, a local one who worked into the night, and another who drove her pickup over 100 miles! Then, no refund was issued. They could have told me I would have to pay the remainer of the month anyway, and I could have multiple trips alone instead of having to impose on friends. The only time I saw her there (since she was only there 3 days) she was sitting alone in a parlor watching tv, but couldn't figure out how to change the channel. She did not talk about the food, but said the staff were bossy, and wouldn't let her do anything.

DISAPPOINTING.

The staff was friendly and welcoming as they were selling you on the place. We moved mom in and she needed to have meds on a schedule, particularly her anxiety meds. The place was HORRIBLE at keeping the schedule. There were a few times when meds were very late. I would never recommend that place unless perhaps it was for independent living. Extremely frustrating.

Stay away

DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER THIS PLACE FOR YOUR LOVED ONE! The staff at Magnolia are incredible at touring and the sales pitch. But let me tell you, they will not even do the bare minimum that is part of the rental contract because they are always “under-staffed”. The weekly cleanings, laundry and sheet changes do not happen regularly if at all! If and when they do clean, it’s mediocre at best. The food is inedible. Several occasions they lost our family members medications and spent days trying to locate them while she was left without her diabetic monitors among other crucial medications. And you will be charged a ridiculous amount for a “care plan” and within weeks to months they will do another assessment without any communication and double the monthly care plan, this is how they make their money. Charging lower rent and ridiculous amounts for “care plans” that are bogus and unwarranted. AND, they won’t even do the additional items they claim they need assistance with like showering.

We moved my parent out of this The Havens after 2 months. They did not take care of my father. There billing was horrible, charging us for certain things when they said they would not. Lying to us. Some of my father's clothes went missing. A couple of the staff members were rude to us. People that worked there seem to hate there job. So happy to get my family member moved into a much better facility.

I'm a physical therapist and I can tell you that when my husband was there the administration and the quality of care was extremely poor. I've heard that they have all new stuff and administration now so it may be completely different. I can only give you my experience. I would make sure that there is an individualized plan of care that is being implemented by the staff. Anyone thinking to place their loved one should have a camera in their room and they need to be there frequently to make sure that their loved one is getting the care they need no matter where that is. Families also need to know their rights that sedation is not the first course of action when someone is in memory care and they're having a met needs which are labeled as behaviors. I would also encourage families to educate themselves about dementia, and the specific dementia their loved one has and not to feel coerced into doing something because that's what someone says needs to happen. People with dementia and their representative still have rights.

Mismanagement of Medication Nightmare

-No med log kept of as needed meds (pain pills) -Medications not refilled of administered to residents if you don't use their pcp and their preferred overpriced pharmacy. -Response time, means the time between the alert button is pressed by a resident, and the time the med tech tells them they don't have time to bring as needed meds. 45-90 minutes to get requested pain meds. -Nursing staff is rude, defensive, and confrontational if questions are asked by family, and they will refuse to show you medication logs because they either have not documented meds administered, or they don't even have the prescribed meds onsite. -Tables in dining room not sanitized between settings -Plan of care log was not set up for 2 weeks, then not followed. -My family member frequently never left his room for 6-8 hours, because he was in too much pain to walk, staff did nothing. -Laundry rarely done, linens rarely changed. I had to hire a cleaning service! -No "practicing" nurse onsite -AVOID AT ANY COST

We were so disappointed with our experience at The Courtyards of Mountain View. They are short staffed; services the residents pay for are not delivered and they struggle to deliver meals in a timely fashion in the dining room. The billing and invoicing system are antiquated; they doubled billed or incorrectly billed us every month. Our family member was incorrectly dosed and double dosed a dangerous medication over a period of weeks. The health staff did not catch their error and did not apologize for the harm they caused her. We were forced to move her to a safer location in a 24 hour period.

no mail

I have sent a card every month to a resident. Last week I got all of my cards sent between January and October returned in one fell swoop unopened and marked unclaimed. This was not a postal problem as one of the cards had her room number written on it in marker. I have called the facility twice to find out why these cards were held and returned in a batch. Each time I was promised a response. No one has called me. I am very disappointed that my friend didn't get what was sent to her and that I wasted time, effort, and money for eleven months.

Do not send a loved one here

The first year was great. The second year was horrible. They left my mom in her room to be dehydrated, horrible UTI and she almost died so then. They also just let her leave the facility at one point she was down at some grocery store, not knowing where she was or how to get back so I moved her. Don't send your parents or anybody you love to South Hill Village. I can't express that enough.

our families experience

My main comment is that we felt that care lapses presented a danger to my loved one. We experienced significant lapses in care at Magnolia Place. This was so serious that we needed to move him quickly to another facility this year. The facility did not follow my dad's care plan for things like toilet assistance, bathing assistance and cleaning assistance. There were frequent mistakes with medication delivery. Problems with medications created potentially dangerous situations I would not recommend Magnolia Place until these issues are resolved

Do Your Homework!

Glenwood Village of Overland Park, Never Again! Ask for specific details from Dining, Nursing Care, Doctors, and Management! Mom had a fall that could have been prevented! Drs and staff members said she was fine. I could tell something was wrong I asked several times to for an MRI, the doctor said she did not need one that the Xray that was done in her room was fine. Mom had to go to the hospital for a high heart rate a couple of weeks later. The doctor at the hospital asked me when my mom break her back. I let them know of her fall they asked me why she was not taken to the hospital; I told them they told me she was fine, they showed me her MRI that had I believe had 3 broken bones in her back. Watching her the next few weeks was heart breaking!!! Unfortunately, this is the end of my story.

Whispering winds

Whispering Winds is a new facility that looks great. But that is only surface. They refused to get my mom’s meds correct. Hospice prescribed meds repeatedly told them what her meds were and they just couldn’t get it right. Initially gave her a dose of 4xs as much. Couldn’t figure out why my mom was pass out all the time. This is just the beginning. To much to write. Reported to state. Would not recommend. Increased rate 3 times in a month and a half.

Beware!

Parmer Woods nurse evaluated and their staff admitted our mother into Parmer Woods on [date removed]. On [date removed] I received an Eviction Notice that our mother would be removed. This was sent regular mail, not certified as required and stated by their own document and Texas law. Additionally, this Eviction was shared with a family friend who went to visit our mother before I received the Notice. Apparently, they had reevaluated our mother three times in her four months there and determined that her care needs were greater than their facility could provide. These “Care Plans” normally happen about once every six months and are signed by the facility and family member during a meeting with the resident’s POA (Power of Attorney). Parmer Woods did not have a meeting with family, did not obtain signatures with the POA and didn’t even sign the document themselves! On [date removed] Pegasus allowed a third-party entity (CVS) to administer an injection (flu) without any authorization.

Very disappointed

Very little effort in welcome and assimilation of new residents. Night staff did not look in on parents (one each in separate rooms) - my father fell twice, once at night and screamed for help for over 2 hours but was never helped. He got himself up and back in bed. Nursing director was not very regretful and simply suggested use of help buttons (these are not standard there-- another shortcoming IMO. In short, if the resident is highly social and motivated, this might be a good choice. Otherwise, if needy and shy, not a good choice. Cannot recommend. Very few loved ones really want to leave their home, and part of the assimilation is on them, I get it. My parents were probably borderline for this facility but regardless we just saw very little effort on the part of the staff compared to what was represented in the initial discussions.

Review for The Village at Rancho Solano

Mom was left in her room most of the time and when she needed help, took lengthy time to get help.
