Poor Communication

They didn't communicate well. One caregiver wouldn't give information to the next caregiver. It was laxidasical care. My dad got really good physical therapy there but over all I was not impressed with the caregiving.

Review for Laketown Village

#4--I rated quality three points because of the caregivers, not the administration. They are understaffed and overworked. No administration is here on weekends. #7-- Activities are almost nonexistent. The calendar blocks are filled, but most activities listed, are nothing. (example- I asked what "walking with wisdom" was all about. Was it a group with discussion? I was told that a resident may choose to take a walk in the courtyard and reflect. NOTHING! Anyone can do this anytime. The Friday outings include either Walmart, Dollar Store, lunch, or something similar. #8-- Value - SAFETY is a serious issue. In order to get a nurse, we have a button that sends your room number to a care partner. The care partner comes to your room as soon as she can (too many tasks demanded of them). The care partner gets in touch with the nurse. The internet goes out many times. When it is down the call button does not work. There are many other safety issues, but I only gave one example.

Poor food, residents left waiting for meals for over an hour

Food is a big part of a resident's life at an Assisted Living Facility. The food at the Village at Rancho Solano is consistently poor, late or unavailable. Meal times at the Village are supposed to be 7-9 am, 11:30 - 1:30 pm and 4-6 pm. However, in addition to being poor quality and bad tasting most of the time, the residents are often kept waiting for over an hour for their food. Complaints to the State, to the Ombudsman, to the Executive Director, to the Corporate office of Pegasus are made time and time again to no avail. The Executive Director always has some kind of an excuse as to why the food is not served in a timely manner or certain food that was promised such as dinner rolls are not available. In Memory Care, where the residents don't have a voice, the food served is often cold and late and when residents want more, they are told there isn't any more available. With many residents paying over $[removed] per month for room/board and care, this is uncceptable.

Our family's Experience, would not recommend

The initial part of touring the facility seemed nice and that it had everything we needed. Moving in was fine and at the beginning, it seemed like everything was going well. Then progressively they started to lose more and more employees. The food started to get really bad, they didn't have any kitchen help and then they ended up taking away the nurse. Having the nurse there on staff was one of the main reasons that we were attracted to this place because our Nana needs some more medical care and once they took the nurse away, she was not getting any of the care that she needed. We ended up moving her out of the facility after having multiple issues with medication, staff turnover, and the food declining significantly. The facility was mostly clean. I didn't see a lot of housekeeping issues, but as the staff turnover happened, I did notice things start to get a little bit more messy. Overall, though I didn't see any problems with the cleanliness. Overall, the staff was very friendly. However, once we started raising issues with the upper management, we had some problems with them. They wouldn't return our calls, wouldn't get back to us and we found it incredibly frustrating to have issues that needed resolved, but no one would contact us because they knew that we were frustrated. Again, initially in the beginning, the care was great and they had a sufficient amount of staff. But as the months went on, they lost so many staff members, and we definitely felt like the staff turnover was due to pay issues and not having enough support. We later learned from the Director that some of the staff issues were due to to People not coming in and then having to crack down on employees. Her care suffered drastically and there were a lot of times where things were missed. She lost a lot of laundry and sheets, they never came back from the laundry service. There were days where nobody would come in in the morning quick enough, and she had to sit in a wet or soiled bed. The time it took for someone to come after she pushed the button on her necklace was sometimes greater than 20 to 30 minutes. I was so frustrated by this because if she had fallen or something serious had happened, no one would get to her for quite a long time. In the beginning the food was OK but not great. As a month went on they lost their chef and a bunch of kitchen help so the meals were absolutely awful. We went to eat with her several times and the portion sizes were similar to that that I would feed my toddler. They were extremely small, tough, hard to eat, un appetizing and looked like they were just out of a TV dinner. Nana complained a lot about the food all the time and was a big reason why we ended up moving her, as well as the care problems. all of the other residents that she was with also complained about the food a lot and were met with no help or solutions. The food was absolutely awful. The amount of activities was sufficient, but our Nana didn't participate in any of them. I felt like if they had adequate levels of staff that they could have helped her to go on some of the excursions or do some of the activities. But because there was no one really keeping an eye on her, no one was there to help her to get to the activities or remind her or wake her up on time We ended up moving Nana out of this facility because the amount of money that we were paying per month was not at all acceptable for the amount of money that we were paying. The food was horrible, the staffing issues were nonstop and they took away the nurse which was a huge draw for us to have her there. We were not getting the value that we were promised when she moved in so we moved her out.

Understaffed facility

My mom was in the memory care facility less than a month before she suffered a big fall that lead to her death. I found that they had a lot of good intentions and the program in general was structured well. Unfortunately, they were chronically understaffed and most of the time would not follow along with their schedule of activities for their program. I would be very cautious about putting a loved one here who is higher need and a fall risk. They just don’t staff adequately and can’t handle higher need residents. I feel overall mislead that they could handle my mom’s needs and that they planned to deliver the programming and care as promised.

Would not recommend

Overall the care was poor. The nurse had no idea what she was doing and there was only ONE for the whole facility and she would leave at 5. I constantly would get calls saying she fell what should we do (why would they be asking me when its their job).. or asking me to take her to hospital. They didn't watch her. She fell constantly or would sit naked in her room unnoticed. Terrible experience especially since it's very high dollar place.

Review for The Rivers at Puyallup

I would tell a friend to stay away. The leadership at the Rivers is dreadful. I have never dealt with anybody so lazy, dishonest, untruthful, and as irresponsible as [name removed]. He blew me off for 3 months while I was trying to get my final invoice. When I finally got ahold of him, he lied to me by telling me that my bill was all paid up and then sent me to collections. He repeatedly told me he was going to look into things or fix this or that and never did anything he said he would do. Also make sure you read the contract. I had to pay rent at that place for 30 days after my dad died because of a clause in the contract about giving notice. My dad died in May of 2023 and I just now (11 months later) got the mess from the Rivers all untangled.

A few months ago it was a good place to be but in my opinion the new management does not care about the residents or there staff , in memory care there has been a 100 percent turn over in the last 2 months. At this point I would not be recommend this place.

Horrible food

The food served to the folks here in Gig Harbor is terrible. We have eaten with our parent several times, and could not believe what was being served for the amount they charge to have my parent there per month. Please do something to fix this. My parent complains very little, but does not like the food and so rarely goes to cafeteria to eat. This should not be happening! If it does not get fixed, or get more healthy for these folks who deserve to be treated to decent food, I will complain in a more professional way.

Challenging

Because of poor management -- nobody knows what anyone else on staff is doing, there is very little communication to me and things that need to be fixed go undone for weeks. I would say the nursing care is excellent but it's not well run. I chose it because they have a lot of activities that the residents seem to enjoy.

Disappointed

I gave it a 2?? not one because the food is pretty good. Please look for other facilities. When you are taken on a tour, they will point out all the things that in hindsight are not important at all. What is important are the people who are caring for your loved one. The staff and administration turned over frequently. so, there’s no commitment. MEMORY CARE residence are placed in front of a television and that is what they consider engagement. Do they ever sit and visit with Your loved one-no. Do they get to know them? No -how often do they take them outside? hardly ever. What about those gardens that they were going to involve residents in maintaining? Nope. Caregivers dress them, give meds and feed them. That’s what you get. Otherwise your loved one will just sit or wander. Bathroom not kept clean. Tired of feeling that if I am not there, our loved one is not taken care of. Looking elsewhere now!

Prices up quality down

Once you are a resident, prepare for increases in monthly cost and decreases in quality of food, care and cleanliness. My mother’s monthly fees have increased about 30% in the last 14 months while quality fell.

Most of the staff was very friendly. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience regarding administering of drugs to my mom by the med tech. Should have been administered as needed but med tech (not a nurse--no RN on site) who gave my mom morphine every hour for 8 hrs. Mom's respiration dropped to 6 breaths/min. There was no accountability or admittance to this error. I would NOT recommend The Gardens as a place for anyone's loved one

They could not keep staff. The apts did not get cleaned, the food was horrible after management changed. The staff was rude at times. I can't really speak to the activities as my mother in law quit going. If it had been up to me, I would have moved my mother in law before 6 months had passed. Also residents were moving out in droves

disappointing

The workers are nice, but the place seems disorganized, complaints are listened to, but nothing changes, lot's of staff turnover. Mom is not very clean. She always has crust around her eyes, behind and in her ears, and on her scalp. Her feet always have dry dead skin, especially between her toes. Her teeth are seldom brushed. Her nails are always filthy, as she eats primarily with her hands. I wonder about the areas I can't see. I bring wipes and eyelid cleaners, tooth and hairbrush, and lotion so I can care for her when I visit. The floors and bathrooms are not clean. Laundry is misplaced. VERY expensive care for what you get.

Tour experience

I toured with The Farrington at Tanglewood and was not at all impressed. I think the guy who showed us around was not the person who was supposed to be doing the tour, it just felt like it was pushed off on him. The facility was also of the beaten path - so there were a couple of things going against them

Disappointed - would not recommend

The food was awful. Dad's biggest complaint. For us they did not fix things quickly he waited 7 days for hot water in His room and made several calls to maintenance with no result. I had to come down to complain in person and demand it be fixed - no sense of urgency. They completely messed up his medication and did not refill prescriptions correctly.

Dig Deep First

Everything they told us seemed wonderful, and then we got there and it wasn't true. I would tell others who are looking for care to ask questions, meet the staff, ask about their staff history. Only two staff members are left from when we first arrived. Magnolia Place is on their third Executive Director now. The agency staff they've brought in want to do as little as possible. I do think the Activities Director is awesome. But it's definitely not worth what we're paying.

Our Parents

My Mom and Dad have been living in this building for Two years. Long Story short. My family came down for the Holidays we had a long conversation about allowing are parents to age in place here. We are at the point of weighing are options. We understand in time things change and we did not realize that they have become very unhappy. Even if my parents say that most of their friends here feel the same way. We started questioning on how many employees that we enjoyed seeing and treated our parents like there mom and dad. Why they were no longer there. We were shocked and outraged that no one sent us an email or letter of this big turnover. Not a smiling face in this building. Everyone new seemed to not want to be there and Christmas with my parents was not the same. Apparently, no one thought we should know that this has been going on for a few months. I would not refer this independent living no more that's for sure.
