We chose this community because of the care services they provide, the cleanliness of the community, all the activities they have for the residents. We talked to some residents and they really seemed happy. We looked at 10 different communities so we had plenty to compare it to. We are really happy with Merrill Gardens and would definitely recommend them to anyone.

(Value Not Rated) Emeritus was very conveniently located for me to be able to visit. I like the community and it seemed like it was a good community. The community is clean and the staff seemed to know what they are doing. I am very pleased with Emeritus.

Town Village is a very nice community with really friendly staff. We chose it because of the friendliness of the staff and the recommendations of the residents that live there. We got a chance to talk to residents and they just seem very happy and like they enjoy being here. Only issue we have had is mainly just a timing issue with some of the staff. We needed them and they happened to be off. But that is a small timing issue on our part. Overall we are very happy with Town Village and would recommend it to anyone.

A primary concern for us was that the facility would be able to meet my mom's dietary needs. Merrill Gardens has been able to meet them very well. The staff is well trained, very friendly, and professional.

Staff/care is very good. Activities, food good. Cleanliness is good. Room is old and in need of updating. Work orders submitted are slow to be addressed.

The food was really good. With the care services my mom was difficult so it is hard to judge and she did not participate in the activities.

The facility is in very good condition, both interior and exterior. The landscaping loooks very good, including the interior courtyard. All the staff are friendly, open to questions and suggestions. The care staff are very concerned about providing good care and assistance. The food is often prepared to order, is tasty and served hot. At times the service in the dining room is slow, which may be attributable to staff shortage or backup in food preparation. Residents are friendly to each other and are sociable. Rooms are adequate in size, but compact. Bathrooms are roomy, closet is large.

I have not been at the facility when the doctor or nurses make rounds to check on residents. The wait staff in the dining room are great & front desk is helpful. As to activities, the list they have looks good, but my friend who we placed there hasn't really participated much, so I can't judge fairly. Overall, it seems to be a good fit for my friend & all of us (her tribe) feel good about her being there; she's safe, well-fed, checked on regularly & the location is easy for us all to get to from all over the metroplex.

The staff is great, they're very friendly & give updates on your loved ones (he's in assistant living). The food use to be better in the beginning but then I've heard they've been through several different cooks. The place is clean & well kept. They even have a support group I am a part of. I love all the activities, movies, & outings they do. I was a little disappointed & surprised that the rent went up $550 in just 6 months of dad living there. And they said it'll go up every year. Hopefully dad can continue to live here after several years.

My mom is very happy there. The staff is friendly and very good with my mom , who has dementia but is living in the assisted living area. I have not had any issues with her living conditions since moving in last February. I would give a 4 only for the reason being her room could use better sweeping under the bed and in her closet(dust bunnies). Yes, I would definitely recommend the place overall. So many good qualities about the place!!

This rating given due to the staff members assisting me with a CPAP machine for the 1st time, for ALL of us, were untrained in putting the mask on, putting it on upside down at first, then putting it on too loosely the second time, to the point of its falling off when they let go, and being argumentative with me when I told them it wasn't working. Further, in the dining room, even after dutifully writing down the desired wants for the meal, something, inevitably, is forgotten. The meals, while flavorful enough, are never warm enough with the possible exception of breakfast.

Overall good. Sometimes seems like they're short on staff. They over sold the extracurricular activities a bit - but understand the complications. I would recommend it to others. We REALLY appreciate the Catholic community there - Mass on Sundays and prayer on Wednesdays.

The accommodations are really nice. The staff is really not there like we thought. We asked for a PT awhile ago and that didn't happen. They automatically took $[removed] out for charges she didn't incur. We did get that figured out. Some of this is more on my mom. She can do more than what she does. We're not sure what she's exaggerating on and what really isn't happening. Overall, it is good for her and us.

The staff is great and very helpful. My dad isn't a fan of the food. He has celiacs and needs gluten free options. Those options are limited on some days. He is staying in a large studio. They are quick to add services and slow to take them away when not needed. He has been showering himself for a month and a half now but is still paying for the service. The facility is clean.

Great staff but getting changes implemented took too long and several requests. I would recommend Pegasus Landing.

Our Mom has been very happy so far and they have done a very good job with providing the attention and care she needs. Within a week or so of when we first visited Pegasus, they were transferring ownership from Brookdale, which is the only reason I gave them less than a 5 rating. They were going through a lot of procedural changes and all of them were to make things better than they were, however it caused a few things to not go smoothly. I don't want to be too harsh with my rating because other than a few things not being handled as quickly as we expected, nothing was related to how well our mother was cared for. She's spoken with others in the facility which have been there for several years and they have expressed nothing but good things about the facility and it's staff. Our mother seems to be settling in well and adjusting to the drastic changes in her life. The PT she has received from their in house therapist has been great. She has quickly moved out of the wheelchair, to her walker and is now progressing to a cane or nothing to help her with her recovery after her broken leg in February. The staff have been very friendly and supportive and our mother has had no complaints. She has only been there about 4 weeks, but overall we're very pleased with Pegasus Landing.

The Intake: I give a 4 as there was a lot discussed, a lot of topics covered and most of those topics did come true once the papers were signed. [Name Removed] the head of sales, he really knows his business, is really willing to work with you and willing to answer questions. He will glaze over some touchy subjects and if you’re new to assisted living, you might not know to ask the questions. But overall, SCWAL is NOT a bait and switch, what you see is what you get. Everyday Living: The everyday living is a harder topic to rate, as it comes down to the individual’s willingness to participate in daily activities. I’m a very outgoing person and can talk to anyone, enjoy almost any situation as long as there are people to talk too. I give this place a solid 4. My mom (the resident) on the other hand, she’s more introverted and she has trouble dealing with a lot of people. For her, SCWAL is a 2.5 or 3. Again, this comes down to personalities. They have daily activities and outings, so it’s not for a lack of activities, it’s a lack of getting people involved. Yes, they are adults and not children, you can’t force them to get involved like a teacher to a school child, but there is involvement missing. Extra comments: Overall Personal Perspective: SCWAL is a very busy place, there are a lot of employees to help, but for those residents that need the extra bit, personality wise, it’s lacking. They do encourage interactions and the employees are wonderful, but the ability to cater to someone like my mom, they fall short. My mom spends almost 100% of her days in her room, except for bingo. This isn’t about giving suggestions, and I’m not qualified to give those, so I’ll leave it there. For the extrovert or A-type personalities, those people seem to thrive here. They do puzzles, they play games, listen to live music, go places with the groups, etc. But there are not enough of these A-types to help encourage others. For example, the outing to the library, consists of 1 resident, every Wednesday, only 1. My mom loves books, but she never goes. I can take her to the library or book store and she’ll be happy, but not with SCWAL. I don’t know the reason, just my observation. Restaurant: My mom buys some food at the grocery stores or gets some food from the downstairs restaurant, but then eats upstairs. Her reasoning for not sitting in the restaurant, too many sick people. I’ve been with her and they might not be sick in the traditional way, but the coughing and sneezing is overwhelming with a percentage of the residents. About 60% of the food is not great at the restaurant, there are some things they do get right, but if it’s meat, it’s going to be dry, sadly. I’ve had a bite here and there of my mom’s food and it is lacking, taste and quality. I get the lack of taste, due to people from all over, spice, pepper, salt levels are going to be different and the older crowd might be more sensitive. As for quality, I understand there is a budget they must maintain, but overall, the food is a 2 out of 5. Activities: There are lots of activities the seniors enjoy, some are a little too boring and repeated too often, but every day there are things to do/go to. The activity director is always wanting to get input from the families and overall, she does a good job. I wish my mom would get involved with some of them, but she won’t. If she had a companion or buddy, I think she would be more receptive, but to take that first step out the door herself, she won’t. I would rate the activities 4 out of 5. Sure, a lot of seniors can’t dance or get physical, but they try to accommodate as many people as possible. Rooms and Common Spaces: The rooms at SCWAL are nice. The rooms in general have been upgraded to what you would consider a modern-day apartment with wood flooring. The rooms are on the smaller side for most residents, but the people with money, their rooms are nice. The showers are lacking water pressure, but are always hot. The fridge is tiny and no choice of an upgrade, other than bring in your own. There is a restaurant downstairs, so you shouldn’t need to stock a full fridge, but as stated above, the restaurant is lacking. Overall, the rooms are nice, 4 out of 5 The 3rd floor common areas are also very nice, spacious, clean and well kept. The common kitchen is a nice touch with a full-sized fridge, oven and stove top. Nobody keeps things in the common fridge, but if you’re cooking, you can keep your cool stuff cold. There are several areas to play games, puzzles or just kick back and relax on the sofa. The 2nd floor has exercise equipment and a cozy theatre. The 2nd floor doesn’t seem as clean as the 3rd and I’m not sure why. Maybe more stuff? It also tends to stink a little more (touch on this down below). The 1st floor is nice and welcome, with a little bar/play room area (Bingo, Happy Hour and birthdays), a large “family room” with a good amount of seating. The live music and other community events happen here. The restaurant is on the 1st floor. The only real negative about the living areas are the smells. It is an assisted living facility and I guess understandable, but the stink of human feces and urine is really bad, a lot of times. They try to air out the rooms by opening the door to the hallways and the resident’s window, turning on a floor fan in the hallway, which I think is part of the problem. But the stink really lingers for a long time. All three floors suffer from this, but the 2nd floor tends to be more extreme. The Staff: Whoever hires the employees here, really knows what they are doing. The staff are not here just for a paycheck. They really seem to care about the residents. They really seem to enjoy most of their job. Maybe not the part that produces the bad smells (LOL), but they are always caring and seem to be in a good mood. The front receptionist, she’s a saint! She takes so much grumpy B.S. from the residents but keeps a smile on her face. I can’t say enough about the caring staff here. This also goes for the restaurant wait staff. They try to always have a smile on their face, even when someone’s temper flairs after eaten one to many bad meals.

My main concern is that there are not adequate accommodations for residents who are hearing impaired. Activities would be much more accessible if there were a monitor displaying words or captions in large enough text for residents to read from their seats in the activity room or from the balcony when events are held there. I have also experienced ongoing issues with billing. In addition, I was very surprised to receive a notice today informing me that my mother's rent will increase by approximately $[removed] starting [date removed]. Receiving only one month's notice for such a significant increase is concerning and has made financial planning difficult.

For the most part, my parents enjoy being there. The staff has been very nice and responsive, although since Pegasus took over operations, I'm not sure if my previous contacts are still there as they have not responded to questions that had previously been answered immediately. The main thing that keeps me from giving it a 5 is that the elevator that is closest to their apartment keeps going out of order and has been out of order for about two weeks now. This causes them to have to go out of their way to get to the next closest elevator whenever I go to pick them up for their appointments. There has not been any indication as to when it will be repaired.

The cleanliness and room size are both fine. We forgot that her clothing and linens needed to be marked since someone was doing her laundry for her. That reminder might go on a checklist somewhere. Apt size is good for her. I may be mistaken, but when her asthma acted up (hoarse and coughing a lot), no one asked if she had a rescue inhaler or had checked with her doctor. She was worried that cleaning products had triggered her, forgetting that she was outside a lot and everything is blooming.
