New Perspective Senior Living

They have had some leadership challenges with interim staff holding some positions. I believe this has resulted in some staffing challenges. They have some wonderful staff members who need quality leadership to help them shine. Honestly, the difference between the cultures at the NP in Sun Prairie and the [community removed] is big. While we were relatively satisfied with Sun Prairie, [name removed] puts Sun Prairie to shame. They are really excellent (we move my Dad to [name removed] after my Mom passed to be closer to my brother.

The initial experience at Richland Woods with my mother residing in a studio apartment and my father who was visiting daily did have a rocky start on the nursing front. In short from providing lengthy examples, both of my parents were demeaned, talked down to, and treated insignificantly in their initial experience. I have also witnessed with my father other patients getting similar treatment from nursing. This is regrettably an issue with facilities in many places in our health system, so it is not so isolated to Richland Woods. Given the treatment that was going on with my mother who was ill and could not defend herself, and my father coping with this life altering change, it got so bad to the point where we had to have a meeting with the nurse director and executive director. We laid out how things were going to move forward with the treatment of my mother and father as paying customers with expectations that patients who are in need will just get respectable treatment from a nursing manager and crew. After that meeting, they pulled out all the stops and the care level changed dramatically toward my mom. She was then treated like an adult and we had routine check ins at that point with nursing and the family. Mom eventually ended up in hospice and died at Richland Woods, and it's the turnaround that nursing did after our involvement that is the reason I could give them 4 stars.

Move in and paperwork had a little bit of confusion but overall was good. The staff is very helpful and friendly. It is a very nice environment for Mom to be in and she is enjoying the people and activities.

Change of ownership screwed the food up. They just changed the nursing hours so we will see how that impacts care. The Director is not real friendly, but the rest of the staff has been great. The sales guy, [name removed] is an awesome first impression of the community.

Hard to deal with finance person ([name removed]?). Not friendly. Facility needs some updating. I would perhaps recommend this community to other families.

The staff are the reason we went with them they are all really helpful and kind. I would recommend to others.

We would give a 4.7 straight through. There is no perfect place. Well I think the staff are very nice and professional. It gives us a peace of mind knowing that our loved one is in good hands

The food is really good. Staff is nice and helpful. Activities director is always trying new ideas. My dad is an independent living so I can't speak for the assisted-living.

PROS: *[name removed] is AMAZING about communication, so helpful, answering/ replying to any email questions we had!!! *The daily medicine distributing staff was very kind, caring, fun & positive while dealing with my dad! *Family Christmas Dinner was so well organized, fun, special!!! Very affordable for the family members $7/ person) & great food & entertainment quality!!! *Seemed like a good price in comparison to a few other places we looked. *Accepted a Medicare/ Medicaid waiver. *Many activities & outings my dad enjoyed! CONS: *The head nurse was not particularly responsive or helpful via emails. Kind of condescending, telling me to remind my dad (with dementia) to be nicer... um, isn't "grumpy" kind of common w/ dementia patients. All within the 1st month he was there! *I got at least 2 calls where they identified themselves, confirmed it was me they were calling... then they'd start talking about a resident that was NOT MY DAD/ calling the wrong family vs resident! Sadly my dad fell [date removed] , was admitted to the hospital, moved to hospice [date removed], and passed away [date removed]. He was only able to live there for less than 6 months. Southwest Commons in Strongsville was a VERY NICE assisted living facility!!! It was a very good value and engaging community. There are a few areas they can improve but overall we highly recommend it.

My brother really likes New Perspective in Mankato. Says it's good food and he has a very nice room with laundry. the rates keep going up and hard to keep general staff.... a few weeks ago I ate there with my brother and the CEO and maintenance workers were serving the food cuz of worker shortage.... but they did a good job!! But staffing is a problem everywhere in these types of places.

My dad’s experience at Sunrise has been mostly positive. He likes the vast majority of the nursing staff and management. My main issue is that it took weeks just to get his rent figured out. He was being billed for a higher level of care than he was actually receiving. The monthly statements are hard to decipher. When I asked questions no one had answers. Sure glad we didn’t opt for auto pay! The most recent statement is still a mess but at least I feel we know what to expect for the rest of the year.

Our apt is huge, don't know if they are all the same. Have not done any of the things offered, taking care of [name removed] is a full time job. They have wonderful entertainment, and we have gone to a couple of them. Parties for every occasion. Activity director is great. Only complaint I have is the cleaning. The young man comes in once a week and it is hit and miss. Vacuum is just around the middle scrubbing is around the middle. Nothing gets moved, even a paper on the cupboard. I have my old cleaning company come in once a month.(another expense.

There are some maintenance areas that need improvement but the staff who take care of Mother are great.

The staff at New Perspective has been accommodating with moving my dad in when we had 48 hours notice, staff work with us to get things squared away. They had availability of places for him to move in. They have really welcomed him in the community.

[name removed] the nurse was kind at first but started to show she was actually a [removed] when it came to communication about the resident. She was very one sided and thinks she knows more than what she does. Also, admin changed and is very bad at timely emails and great at losing emails.

I like the way the building and units are maintained. Very clean and well kept. I think they could improve on food quality and encouragement of the residents to join activities

Overall, it was a really good experience. Kind and caring staff, clean. I think as with any place, especially with an older person with some cognitive issues, It helps to be there to help make sure the transition is a good one and that your loved ones needs are being met. Overall was a great experience and day-to-day or person to person. I might have fluctuated between four and five. I was a little room for improvement but overall we were very pleased.

My mother indicates that she is happy there overall. She would like to see more emphasis placed on better cuisine options.

The staff was hands-down the friendliest and kindest of any facility we toured. And we still find them to be that way months later. The activities are wonderful! We wish the staff would make sure our mom changes her clothes DAILY and help her with her hygiene a bit more--helping her comb her hair, brush her teeth, and soak her dentures. We pay for the highest level of care for those reasons and would like to see that happen daily. The staff is very good to her, and even though she hasn't had the easiest time becoming acclimated, they remain very kind and good to her. We greatly appreciate that.

My mom is fortunate to be loved and cared for by special caregivers and staff namely, [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], and [name removed]. They work with her to make her comfortable and engage her in activities as she is willing.
