Merrill Gardens

We toured Merrill Gardens at Rolling Hills Estates when searching for a Memory Care facility for our loved one. The tour the the facility were very nice. However, they did not have as many amenities as the other facility that we were considering. The atmosphere, cleanliness, and friendliness were all great.

Check it out carefully and ask a lot of questions to the people already living there. [name removed] has been amazing and very accommodating. I can only say great things about [name removed]

Currently the community is on a COVID lockdown. The community is delivering meals to the resident's rooms. They are giving COVID tests if the residents need them. The staff truly care about the us. Our chef currently is phenomenal. The presentation of food is fabulous, and the taste is good. The residents are able to order or make requests to the meals to assist with dietary needs. There are activities available all day long. There bean bag baseball, any of the residents are able to join. This is great to assist with socialization. There is a weekly activity of red, white, and blue. Plus we honor our veteran's each day. There are trips such as to the casino, shopping, and more. There is music weekly. There is art activities as well. There is a bus for transportation. The activities director is very skillful, and I feel she should get an award for all the activities she plans. The community has an ambassador program for tenured residents to assist in welcoming new residents into the community.

The staff at Merrill Gardens at West Chester is really nice and I know they take great care of my mom. Although we continue to have some issues with her cable, the staff communicates effectively- it's the cable company, not Merrill. My mom tells me that the food is really good. I would definitely recommend Merrill at West Chester to family and friends!

My friend had to wait for room cleaning before moving in to her room because "the housekeeper was on vacation"..... That seemed to indicate that they did not have enough or did not manage well the duties of cleaning staff.

Everything started off great but as my loved one's health declined I had the impression they didn't want him any more and actively took steps to have him placed somewhere else. I did a phone interview with six different communities but we were in a rush and ultimately chose Merrill Gardens due to the proximity to my home. The majority of the staff are wonderful and want the best for the community members.

Merrill Gardens at Kirkland is a good place overall, per all the above ratings I gave. I like that it's located in a nice, beautiful, walkable town!

Overall, my family and loved one had a good experience at Truewood by Merrill First Hill. As care levels go up there are additional charges. The staff is amazing and friendly to work with. The dining room is nice and staff in the dining room are great! The food could use some improvement.

Chose Truewood over a more expensive option that my mom could have afforded. Mom has dementia but still able to live in assisted living. When we visited, she immediately was on her game and interacting with staff she met on our tour. At a larger, more luxury community she immediately shut down. Since moving in to Truewood she has been well cared for by assistance staff as well as all the general staff that seem invested in helping residents with whatever struggles may have come up that day. Very happy having mom at Truewood.

The people are the best part. Mom moved in the last weekend in January and tells everyone she knows that she has never had a bad experience at Truewood. She loves everyone there: genuinely kind & friendly employees who are always ready to lend a hand (or a hug or an ear) when needed. And they always just seem to know when its needed. The only negative comment Mom has made has been about the food. She likes very little of it. However we would absolutely recommend Truewood by Merrill, New Bern community to other families and in fact we already have as well as A Place For Mom. [name removed] was awesome!!

Truewood by Merrill (First Hill) is a small community so residents are able to see familiar faces regularly. The staff are caring and knowledgeable about how my mother-in-law is doing, when asked. The food is sometimes NOT great, but this is over come by the other positive factors.

I would tell others looking into Truewood by Merrill, Fig Garden that the staff members here are wonderful. I gave the food and the activities a lower score, But I believe that they are in the middle of working on improving both of those things.

We toured with Truewood by Merrill in Keller and thought it was a very nice facility. The reason we did not choose it was because we did not like the multiple levels and floors. We thought that could be very confusing especially for dementia residents.

Had to find a place for my husband with advanced Alzheimer's in a hurry. There were no facilities closer to our home very little choice. Few provide secure memory care options. I feel we were fortunate there was an opening at Pine Rock. I have been comfortable with the care provided to him thus far. Staff has been respectful, kind and loving and smiling just about all the time. He can be difficult to handle. Main reason I couldn't keep him or possibly myself safe at home after almost eight years of caring for him alone. Outside caregiver companies wouldn't come to our rural area especially if he could be difficult to work with at times so was left to do all care and no respite alone. He doesn't know me but I know he's safe and being cared for as best as possible. One can't ask much more than that. Improvement is always possible and Pine Rock seems to strive to meet the care and needs necessary as best as any can.

Overall, I was impressed by the staff's willingness to help my father and I in the process of moving into the facility. I also think they went out of their way to help meet the various needs of my father, especially since lost most of his possession due to Hurrican Ian. The staff was always willing to help guide me through the requirements of the facility and the various services they provide. They've maintained regular contact with me and updated me on the developments within the facility. My father hasn't complained about anything, which means he is more than satisfied, despite the challenges he faces. The only thing that might need more attention is the variety of activities and outdoor activities.

Truewood is a clean, comfortable facility. The staff is adequate, they provide good care to the residents. I would definitely recommend Truewood as it is a clean, comfortable, caring facility.

We think this community could improve on their activities.

Everything is fine, I would recommend you stay on top of any of the services the community is supposed to be taking care for your loved one. Some of the care they are able to provide is: medication management and bathing assistance. It would be nice to have the caregivers peek in and make sure if my loved one needs assistance with dressing, or escorting my loved one to the dining room, like they are supposed to be doing. The staff communication with the family is good. I have always been able to get a hold of staff. It would be nice to know when therapy is able to to see my loved one, so I can call with any questions. The community is clean and the food is excellent.

I would tell others that the staff is truly wonderful here. Activities are also plentiful. I have ben a little disappointed in the food. It is not so much the taste, it is the nutritional value. I am having a big problem because I have to have low salt intake and the food that I am eating here is just not healthy for me. That would be my only concern. The people who prepare it are great as is the chef. The apartment sizes are fine. I am in a small studio and it is working out wonderfully for what I need. If I had the income, I would choose a one bedroom, but the studio is very nice. Overall I do think it is definitely a facility that others should check out.

It has been a caring place for my family member. The staff is fantastic and cares about their residents. The other residents I've met have been friendly. And the meals look good.
