Memory Care
June 4, 2015

My Loved one lived at his community of years & the care continued to get worse. As with anything there is a 'honeymoon' period & that is so true for sunrise. The D.O.N [name removed] is pure evil, lazy & has a nasty attitude but to top things off she is a habitual liar. Don't believe anything that she says unless its in writing. I gave her chance after chance to prove me wrong or to at lease properly handle problems & care but she does not. She will give you this fake smile & then take behind your back & not respect your loved one. overall she sucks & Karma will catch up to her. The direct care staff changes like you would change your bed sheets. The laundry is not done as stated nor do you get all of your clothes back & no one does anything about it. The activities on the memory unit are non-existent but they will tell you different. The cleanliness is ok if you stay on the staff & they put it off on someone else. If you cant make it up there everyday to see your loved one FIND ANOTHER FACILITY because these people are here just to get a pay check from the executive director on down. I have only had one person in nursing that actually cared & one person in billing who was nice. I pray for all those people there because of the lack of attention & care they receive for the money.

Beautiful facility and friendly personnel . A lack of communication between personnel about patients is a problem. Medication distribution also a problem. Im hoping the problems will work themselves out since this is a relatively new place. Management addresses problems when brought to their attention but not totally solved.

They throw those with difficult behaviors right out the door.

We considered this place for my loved one. They are memory care, but they threw us right out the door. They are not prepared to handle someone with difficult behaviors associated with dementia or Alzheimer's. They seem to only want the mild mannered easy to handle memory care residents, but they can't all be like that.

)!decided on the Windsor mostly because my moms boy-friend was going there and they shared a room. The nursing staff was very good as was a few people that just stepped up to make her feel more comfortable and oriented. Roberta you are the BEST! AND LISA in activities treated my mom like her own. Lynn was the original Director and we loved it until the management change. Disaster . My mom was treated with no respect or consideration. I was told I had to move her in 24 hrs which was terribly stressful for her and me. my mom never been in love since my father died years earlier and she was abruptly separated from the man she loved 1000 choice and it won the beginning of her rapid decline! please be aware of that fact if you happen to be the second person paying in a Room the second person can be asked to leave at any time. just read the fine print and be sure that they do not allow any medical procedures without your written consent I was billed for thing I never gave permission for even though I made that known in her admission. Health care surrogate I wanted to be notified before she was examined by any outside agency or Dr. My decision to protect her. I apologize for this long speech! it is merely meant to be informative the accommodations are beautiful the staff is attentive and well trained. They are expensive considering you even have to supply ur own toilet paper! But the care is good if you can afford it. Just stay involved and read the fine print! They need more staff- but all of them are kind and proactive. Good Luck.

Sunrise is the worst place a dementia...

Sunrise is the worst place a dementia patient could ever go. My family member was robbed of her money and dignity. She was thrown out when they claimed they could not care for her any longer. This came after they told us she would always be welcome at Sunrise and they would help us in anyway that they could to meet her needs. A closed dementia unit should be able to care for ANY dementia patient that they agree to take. The place smells, people are always screaming, and it is a very stressful place. Some of the staff members were nice to work with, but all of the good staff members who cared about the patients were left go when the new administration took over. What we ended up with were lies and broken promises. If you have a loved one with dementia, STAY CLEAR of SUNRISE! They are dishonest and ONLY care about their money.

Our Experience

The tour was great in November, my loved one planned on moving in the following month after Christmas. The facility went on lock down shortly after because of a covid outbreak. So they would not allow my loved one to move in but they took my money. A whole month paid upfront. I got messages weekly and she couldn't move in through the whole month of January. They let us put her belongings in her room but not let her move in. Then my loved ones health declined and this place had the nerve to ask for 2 more months money. I refused and lost the deposit placed. She got sicker and ended up passing waiting to move in. They just called and left a voicemail and are literally trying to withdraw this money from my account when my loved one never lived there. I had to have my bank block their access to my account over a month ago after they got the deposit. She never lived there. I am not sure why they think we owe them any money.

A sorry healthcare facility

We were never really informed about what activities were happening in the center. My loved one was put in a room and was given his meals and his medicine and that was it. I would not recommend this place to everyone. My loved one was ill and sat in pain for a while because they would not give him meds. He was not shaved because he was showered and they said we would have to be more to have that and increase his level of care. I felt that the staff were very condescending and don't know answers. They also missed one of his medications for a month that caused some issues.

Would never recommend this community to others

Our loved was there for no more then six hours before they sent our loved one to a psychiatric community. They said he was combative, striking out, and we never experience any of that behavior. They knew our loved ones diagnosis and said they would be able to take care of them and that was not the case. We felt they were liars and thieves.

They diminished and minimized everything, I would absolutely not recommend this community

On their brochure it says their dining experience was gold, and everything was prepared by a chef. The vegetables were so overcooked that they were grey and mushy. If they had chili, it was tomato sauce out of a can, there was no seasoning, no noting it was horrible. I would have to take meals to my husband because the food was so bad. The activities director was quite nice, she was about the only one. The value was terrible. The building looked quite nice, when our loved one checked in their credentials were not up to date. They told us everything was fine and not to worry. The state came in about five months later, and they had six violations. One of the violations was that their exteriors doors were not operable. We did not know this until the lock down in mid summer. Mid summer we had some furniture to be delivered to my husbands room, we were told to come to door number 1 which was the closest to his apartment. That door would not open, so the lady at the front came outside to punch in the code to override the door, and that still did not work. We were told to go to door number 2, and the same thing happened. We then were told to go to door number 3 which was clear across the facility and the farthest from his apartment. The same thing happened when we tried to move our loved one out. We also were very concerned if there was ever to be a fire, that those emergency exit doors by his apartment would not open up. Which would mean him and the other residents in that hallway would be stuck, Mid October we called the front desk asking if we could come the next night at 6 o'clock to start moving our loved one out and they said yes. When we arrived we called them to let them know we had arrived at door number 1, and they proceeded to tell us we were not on their list and we could not come into the facility. We were furious that we came through the front door and demanded we be let in. Once again door number 1 and door number 2 did not work, so once we got through door number 3 and to his apartment it was absolutely disgusting. We also had a problem with the nursing staff, they were not able to keep up with his medication or keep track of the correct medication to give him. There is absolutely some kind of fraud going on their. Back in June our loved one started to experience dizziness and instability. Our doctors wrote orders to have the nurses check his blood pressure and heart rate. However, they did not have a proper pressure cuff that even worked. The doctors orders stated they were to log their tests, and send them logs in for a week and at the end of three weeks all the result would be reviewed for further diagnosis. Our case manager was with our doctor and she was so perplexed, she had been calling and calling and emailing the community for those logs and they never received any. In September our loved one fell three times, which caused some nerve damage. We called the community to get updates and they told us everything was fine and not to worry about it. That third time he well he had some skin tears on both arms. About a week later we took him out of the community. He then started to feel really ill, week and was loosing weight very quickly. We found out not long after that he had stage four cancer. The community never noticed his symptoms or that he was feeling so ill. Just 20 days after arriving home he passed away.

Windsor of Gainesville is not the place you want your loved one to be. Had to hire a caregiver to make sure the resident is taken care of. Constant turnover, no accountability for anything that goes wrong, management does apologize for anything and food is horrible.

As Bad As It Gets

The new operators, Legend are despicable liars and scammers. Staff turnover after Legend took over from Brookdale > 100%. Patients are moving out by the droves. The new Director [name removed] is an absolute snake. They are currently locked down and called to say they are raising care costs by 70% in the middle of a Global Pandemic. Totally unprofessional. Care is pathetic. The talking heads in Wichita made many promises and have delivered on NONE. Don't walk away from these thieves. RUN.

Beware the Windsor in Gainesville

The director [names removed] is awful. He has zero communication skills and is rude and disrespectful. My dad has had numerous infections and was just hospitalized for a week due to the lack of care given for his Foley catheter. I didnt see [name removed] at the center for a few days, and much to my shock, I see in the Gainesville Sun and numerous social network sites that he has been arrested for burglary! This prompted a background check by my family only to realize a skimpy resume and that the man is unqualified to work with our vulnerable elderly. This center is also famous for over promising on what they can deliver. Sadly, they do have some very wonderful and caring nurses who are overworked due to the constant turnover of help. I would not recommend the Windor, be very careful if you do. This will not be a worry-free environment, you will worry daily and must check on your loved one constantly.

Don't Be Fooled By The Appearance

The place is beautiful to look at but the rest is lousy. They don't serve what is on the menu or if they do, its cold and small portions, skimping more everyday. The aides are not trained very well and are very lazy. They are ill-informed regarding medications and don't follow through when residents are sick. The management tells you what you want to hear and then disregards what you have said. Staff walks around complaining about their jobs all day.

Don’t move family here

My father was currently in Michigan in a rehab facility and had to undergo some surgery. The sales lady [name removed], really wanted my dad to move in ASAP, but I explained that I wanted him with me for 30 days. I wanted him stronger, and get use to the move given any confusion that would come with such a huge change in his life at 88 and mild dementia. When I believed he was ready, they sent their nurse out to evaluate him from their community. I didn't want to even move him from my home. It was the hardest choice I had to make, but I have a special needs little boy and I couldn't juggle them both. The stress was too great. Upon move in, we had a few hiccups with the new surroundings, but once he got use to the place, which took 2 weeks he began doing everything! He sang for the staff and residents, he did bible study, movies and bingo! He finally wanted a pair of glasses again so he could do more here! It was his home and he was SO happy! I was happy too because his dementia didn't even seem to be around disturbing his life anymore. He could remember everything he did in his days there when we would speak on the phone. Reason for the 1 star review: Staff members kept leaving. In just 2 months of him living there they went through many new employees including a director. We noticed medication on his nightstand the next morning that a nurse did not give to him the prior night. I was pretty upset regarding this, but problem was rectified. Next was finding pills on the floor that didn't make it in his mouth. Then came missing doctor orders from the hospital, medication not being filled and causing issues with his CHF. Both this establishment and hospice took credit on this mistake and we sat down to discuss to make sure this didn't happen again. We were unhappy because he put on such a large amount of water in 5 days. He was happy with his home and moving him would only cause more issues given he didn't have many more months to live. He then put on another 5 pounds overnight so at this point we decided to get him in the hospital to see if IV lasix could get more weight off faster (like it did in August & September when he was living here.) That way moving around would be more comfortable and my brother (that was flying in the coming week from San Diego) could spend our last Thanksgiving with him. When the hospital and his doctor released him from the hospital to return back home, Prairie Houses Director [name removed] said he could not come back. The hospital worked hard trying to find a new home for him. Two assistance living places came out to access him. They said he was just fine to move in. They both didn't understand why PH had a problem with him returning home because he met ALL guidelines for assistant living. He just had a lot of swelling but was still able to walk and get around. The director at PH wanted him to go to skilled nursing facility (which his doctor DID NOT BELIEVE HE NEEDED nor did the hospital), so the hospital had to re-admit him and call his doctor to get him to write a order for a skilled nursing facility till we could find him a new home because the hospital records stated PH didn't want him back! [Name removed] however said that wasn't true, and given my father WANTED to go back to PH we completed their request to get him to go back to his home. The first night at the skilled nursing facility they forced him to go too, my father was scared (keep in mind this was thanksgiving week our last holiday with our father) my father called me crying wanting to go back home. I called [name removed], offered a sitter or hire a nurse to sit with him 24/7 if she was worried. She wanted till Friday. I complied again. Refused my request. This was what she wanted was someone to keep an eye on him, so why send him to another new place to confuse him anymore! On Friday I called and asked if he could return home with a nurse/sitter. Again she needed till Monday. Friday I arrived at the facility, PH forced him to go to. He was in a corner, in a pissed soaked bed, they lost all his clothes, he was in a dirty shirt and had no pants on because they lost them all! He was scared, confused and didn't understand why he couldn't go home! PH set him up to fail! My heart was broken! After speaking with an employee at PH, [name removed] had no intention on letting him back over pride! I wasn't going to sit around and wait till Monday to hear another lie and place my father through more pain! So I moved his belongings to a facility. The nurse already had done his eval when he was in the hospital and actually felt at the point he would be on the lower level of medical care. PH, didn't listen to me, the hospital or his doctor that they believed he was fine to return home. My father gave up after that! His thrive to live ended in that skilled nursing facility. When I got him out he didn't know why he couldn't go home to PH. On [date removed] a month later after this PH ordeal, he moved to a hospice home to die. On [date removed] he passed away. Not one person showed up from PH to pay their respects! They kept saying how precious of a man he was! Yet no one could come or send a card! What [name removed] did there was frowned on by MANY employees current and past! I have no ill feelings for the people that work there other then this Director. She did not follow state guidelines or the lease agreement. She let her pride run the show. I find what she did evil. I hope she is proud of her actions. She truly hurt my father! He had been through enough! Why 2 other Assistant Living places found him completely suitable, but she was concerned of him coming back there from him being on IV lasixs, yet he did it back in September and returned to PH (now on hospice) with no problems and I even offered a sitter/nurse this time around to stay with him. They need to get stable, professionals here. This director runs the show on emotion not professionalism. My father had such a short time left and he should of been able to live it out where he wanted. She ruined that for him and for that there is NO FORGIVENESS! I will state that they still owe me money from the day they said he couldn't return! Still waiting on the check for the 10 days he wasn't allowed home that I already paid for. Another beware! Beware of their pharmacy.

Do not put your family here

This is the worst place to put anyone you care about. The level of care is terrible and the quality of the food is awful. The manager of the facility is rude and unprofessional. Nurse aides are not responding to alerts for long periods of time, if at all. Nothing gets done or looked into by the corporate office, they just want more of your money. The positive reviews written here are from the employees of the facility. If you have family living here and have issues, you should contact the Oklahoma state ombudsman.
