I initially was looking for a place to take my wife to go because she needed round the clock care and observation. One of the biggest things that I noticed about this place is that the training is so much different here than at a normal nursing home as far as handling the patients goes. One of the biggest things, I’ve learned, for Alzheimer patients is that the idea that they can’t go where they want to or that they have to make a decision right then and there sends them automatically into a bad state of mind. The freedom that they give everyone at the Charleston House allows the patients to feel independent but it’s really the facility controlling the situation without creating a problem and observing their behavior from a distance. Every patient has a buzzer necklace that they can use just in case they need help but are otherwise able to roam free. My wife has her own room and privacy and, upon moving her in, I was able to take all of her things from our home and put them in her room to make it feel like home for her. I was able to completely customize it and it’s very spacious. The facility is kept pretty clean. When I walk in, there aren’t any bad smells that are overwhelming and they help keep my wife very clean. I provide the toiletries, laundry soap, all of the bedding and furniture, and nothing is allowed in the room (furniture-wise) that is not covered for safety. There are 4 different wings to the facility, my wife being in wing 2, and the staff is wonderful about working together. There are typically 3 staff members to each wing per shift with 3 shifts per day. I’ve worked with every shift before and they all are extremely cooperative and very good to work with. My wife sometimes has outbursts and they just do an incredible job at helping her calm down. They have little things they do when they’re working with patients to make sure they keep calm, like offering them their favorite snacks. The staff is always friendly and I’ve never seen them doing anything other than smiling while they’re working. They keep me informed about everything involving her and everyone has a phone to reach the head nurse of that particular shift 24hrs a day. The meals are always hot and I’ve noticed that the staff will come around after every meal and notate how much the patient ate, what they had, and how much of it was left over. The only thing I’ve had to furnish for my wife food-wise is lactose free milk and lactose free ice cream so she can be included with the other residents. They have really good activities here too. My wife loves doing crafts; there’s entertainment, they provide calendars for the month with activities that are going on, there are games, movie nights, sitting areas with large screen TVs, and they’ll play music. They’ll typically do activities in the morning or afternoon because by the time evening comes around most people are already in their rooms. They even had a Grandparents’ day recently where they invited the families of the residents and had all of the kids sit with their grandparents to eat some muffins and ice cream. Something to keep in mind, however, is that this is an Alzheimer’s unit, so some of the residents can come off as scared or standoffish with strangers. I’m honestly impressed with this community. If I could be critical, the only thing I would say is that we have long-term care insurance and it feels like the owner won’t work with our insurance. They want their money upfront and they weren’t very clear about that at the beginning of the process. It can put a bit of strain on the wallet if you aren’t prepared but I’m working around that. Otherwise, I’ve already recommended this place to others.

My Dad was living here once before and was able to live on his own for about 3 years before coming back. We toured a few places before making the final decision to move him in but we both love that it’s close to where I live and they seem to be really caring. The staff is very easy to communicate with and they’re very helpful when/if they find out there is a problem. The food is pretty good from what I’ve tried and my dad says he likes it. They keep everything nice and clean. They have activities like bingo, scenic bus tours, and they’ll do trips to Walmart and sometimes the library. It can be a little on the expensive side, but they seem to be really taking care of my dad and everyone seems nice. I would recommend it here.

I have no complaints of how thing are going for my loved one since she made the move into this community. The staff have been very helpful and I am comfortable with the care she has been receiving while shes been there. She has had no issues with the meals and participates in some of the activities that she is able to. I just do not like that they keep raising the rent on us. She has only been there two months and it has already been raised.

We toured Mission Creek and it was a nice and clean community. The people there seemed friendly and provided us with the information regarding the care and security we were interested in. We chose another community that was a better fit for our loved one.

My mom seems happy with Rock Run Place and the experience is working it out. She is still trying to get use to the community. We have taken her down to the meals and to a bingo game. It all looked pretty good to me.

This community looked nice when we visited. The person that took us on tour was nice. My loved one did not like the style of the rooms. The rooms are small and while you have your own bathroom you have to share a bath and shower with the other residents.

From what my parents have told me they are doing well in this community. I do feel comfortable with their move to this community. I know they are safe, and in good hands. The staff is kind, and they are taking good care of them, and their needs. From what my parents have told me all is going well for them in this community.

Staff very friendly and welcoming. Spent considerable time asking about my Dad and his preferences. Offered many options to meet his needs. Lovely and homey facility with spacious gated walking area and courtyard so Dad can get out and enjoy. Good programming that understands memory impaired clients. Seems like ample staff. Willing to accommodate family with move and setup. Seemed they put residents first. Price is higher then others I toured but seemed well worth expense.

My mother has recently made the move into this community and so far things are going well for her. The staff have been wonderful to work with and have such kind hearts. They know everyone by name and talks to them just like they are family. It is a smaller place and more intimate for all of the residents. They have a great menu as well as activity program that my mom in enjoying. Overall it has worked out great and we are pleased.

The community is good we are happy with the level of care my parents are getting so far. Mom is not happy with being placed there but it is better for her. The offer activities suited for the memory care unit such as exercises. The food seems ok I have not eaten there as of yet but I plan too. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The community is clean and well kept. I would recommend the community.

Sunrise of Barrington is a very clean and beautiful community. The staff is very friendly and caring. My Mom is in the memory care unit and I feel that we have made a good choice for her security and safety. The staff seems well educated in handling any problems that may arise. I'm not sure of the activities that are available for my Mom. I'm really not sure what she can is capable of doing at this time. Sunrise of Barrington is one of the more affordable ones we had looked at, but it is still expensive. We may have to keep looking for something more affordable.

My wife is receiving the good care since her move, she is having a hard time adjusting though. The staff is doing their job and taking good care of her, we have had no problems with the way she is being treated. The meals are very good, I have had 2 meals there they were very good.

On my tour I got feedback and the pricing was too much for me and I had to consider the far distance from me. It looked like a clean community and they staff were providing care that was needed for the people.

My mom is staying at this community. She is eating good meals and the staff are taking care of her real good. That is what is most important to us.
