so far so good

Pelican Point is a very nice, pretty and , warm place. They have daily activities for their clients and according to my family member who is living there in memory care---they are very clean. The dining room in memory care is rather glum, but there is an outdoor garden area with umbrella they can access. At this point (two weeks in), I am pleased. Every Monday they get an outing in the bus....go to get coffee, and the park or whatever. The staff is very accommodating, So far so good.

Kind Staff!!

My mother has recently made the move into this community and I am sad to say that she has a hard time adjusting. She stays in her room most of the time and I hoping she starts to make her way downstairs for the dinning experience as well as other activities. The staff are kind to her and make sure to bring her meals up to her room as well as accommodate her needs to the best of there ability. I am hoping they can keep a little bit of a better eye on her for she has fallen multiple times.

Having a tough time adjusting

My loved one is still adjusting to living at this community. The staff greet them by name and my loved one does like some of the staff members. They offer daily activities, however my loved one is not interested in participating in any. The food is hit or miss as some days it is ok and others it is not. The community is visually attractive.

The Food Is Not Bad

The community is nice to live in but the food is the worst in the world. I have had diarrhea since moving in and eating the meals. They need to learn how to cook, they are using a lot of frozen food. They have 3 cooks, and they should hire people who really know how to cook. Everything else is fine, I like the therapy and the games we play. I am happy with the rest they offer.,

Cannot retain care staff

My family member lived at the Quarry for some time and was taken very good care of. It seems that there are just a few really great caregivers that will go above and beyond for them. I was surprised with how many people I would see coming in and out of the memory care unit due to turn over. It was a little unsettling to be honest. The food service was a little difficult to be constantly pleased with because of slow kitchen staff, especially [Removed]. It was hard to communicate with her when resident's needed things and in a timely manner. I will always be very thankful for one of the medication aids, [Removed], as she went above and beyond for any resident and family member that would ask. Unfortunately she no longer works here. I feel that if they could retain the caregivers who actually cared, this place would be getting 5 stars across the board. [Removed], the executive director, was a very wonderful personable staff member. He remembers names and actually listens to your problems and I was very impressed of his attitude especially with such a high up title. Do some research, but I do like the Quarry.

They need a lot of upgrading!

The staff at the Brookdale Manteca are okay for the most part, many are very nice and experienced. There is only one maintenance man for the whole building which seems inadequate. The meals are okay but servings are small. Also seems there could be more med techs. The heat/air units are noisy and outdated. The roomsand bathroomss need an upgrade. The public areas are very nice as is the courtyard.

This was one of the tours that I was not that impressed with. All of the different units my wife and I had looked at where extremely small with little to no extra space at all. Another disappointing factor was how expensive this place was. I did not think for the money they where asking it was worth it.

Good but under-staffed

I live in Tennessee and came to see my mom's "new home" (my sister lives in Everett). I was with my mom anytime she was awake for 3 1/2 days. The physical structure of The Terrace is very bright & inviting, there are two fairly large rooms where the residence can gather & lots of windows. My low rating for Cleanliness is because my mom's roommate was using my mom's side of the room as a bathroom so it smelled of urine the entire time I was there. Her room was supposed to get a deep cleaning but it still hadn't been cleaned when I left, & the bathroom my mom was supposed to use needed some attention. I was a little disturbed that the residence were put in front of a movie without the sound but that was because the cables had been played with, it was fixed on Monday when they not only had the TV working but some additional guided activities. The staff is hardworking but there aren't enough of them to care for each of the residences every personal need, it was concerning that there wasn't a staff/caregiver visible when other residences needed assistance. Apparently they don't bath a resident if they are resistant so I had to offer to shower my mom myself before they would do it, & it wasn't done kindly. The staff also is in charge of serving & cleaning up the meals so they are only able to do a cursory observation of who is eating & who isn't, or help with cutting food or even fixing tea or coffee the way a residence might like. It's a fairly good place but don't expect to put your loved one there & then do nothing.

They don't have enough staff to attend to the needs of the residents.

Needs some organization!!

My mother seems to have made the adjustment into this community okay and has made her self at home in her new living environment. I am a little disappointed in the organization in this facility. I have had issues with the housekeeping taking my mothers towels and not returning them and the maintenance staff has not fixed the sink and multiple other things in her apartment after I have asked them to several times.

Used for 2 weeks for Respite Care for mother with dementia

My mother stayed at Sunrise Gilbert for 2 weeks for respite care. I think that her stay went pretty well. My brother visited her every day and didn't see anything that he didn't think was up to par. The only issue I had was when I checked her out after her 2 week stay. The person that I spoke to the night before said he'd call me back with a summary of what her caregiver's experienced, etc. during her stay and I never received a call back from anyone. He seemed more interested in me having mom stay there permanently and when I indicated that we weren't ready to move her in permanently he seemed to lose all interest in me. I called Sunrise and told them the exact time I was picking up my mom and when I arrived they seemed surprised to see me even though I had only paid for 2 weeks stay ending that day. No one helped me with gathering her things and moving the heavier items, no one even offered to get me a moving dolly or anything. I was missing a few of her clothes--no one asked me if I got them all back, no one cared. Overall I think the stay went well and the care was pretty good other than she was in her wheelchair all day, no naps during the day from what my brother could tell. She took a few steps backwards when I got her home and I don't know if it was from exhaustion due to no naps or the change or what. She is doing better now. I think they need to hire more actual caregivers, the ones they have are responsible to care for too many people and expected to serve meals and everything. They should just be there to care for the elderly residents, they shouldn't have to serve meals on top of the caregiving duties. They shouldn't leave the person in their wheelchair all day either. My mom's feet were so swollen when I got her home and I think it was from having her feet down all day long sitting in the wheelchair. Other than those items her stay seemed to go well.

My first experience with this community was the tour. They provided such great information and made me feel comfortable with placing my mother in there care. The activities provided are great especially the ones geared towards helping my loved one improve her memory. She has felt very safe and the environment is kept clean. I would highly recommend this place.

This community is nice, however it is isolated. It is surrounded by trees and overlooks the town. This is a new community and the staff were nice. They are near a hospital. I looked at a nice two bedroom apartment with a large porch.
