I would say be realistic about what your family member needs. This is a good community for someone who likes to be involved with others and make friends. It won't fix isolation issues (we found out the hard way). We chose this community over others because it was smaller and more homey feeling than some of the larger places but also big enough to have the community activities for residents and the staff is very friendly. Every time we have come to visit we see the staff speaking with residents.

The facility is aged but well maintained. Units have poor functioning wall heater/ac units. It has been many months since they have had a driver for their van. Dining room has lovely views. Staff is always delightful, very friendly and enjoyable. I am very grateful for Carson Plaza providing a safe, comfortable and pleasant living environment for my Mom.

I would recommend this facility to others. Staff are friendly. Room for improvement would be temperature is inconsistent in common areas, sometimes too cold sometimes too hot.

The community is very informative. This facility had services that were important to meet our needs (physical therapy, 3 good meals, good location, apartment cleaning, transportation) and apartment is larger and more aesthetic than others.

I picked it mostly because it was close to my house. Overall I think it is a good place however they have communication issues in upper management. They don't return calls or emails readily.

The activates person [name removed] is amazing. The outings he puts tiger are great. Our mother is in a wheelchair and is still able to partake in field trips and such. That was the main reason that we chose The Auberge- it seemed very alive and open. Everyone there was not just put in front of a TV all day.

Merrill Gardens doesn't have anyone on staff who is specifically defined to technical support, such as lessons to seniors re how to use your cell phone or whose job is to give tech support if your computer or printer isn't working right etc. Seniors weren't born in the "techie age". I have been helped by some staff members when I needed it, but have been told it isn't their job. I would pay extra monthly to have this included. Twice my computer was disconnected to my printer and each time it was due to a power outage here. I was I informed that still didn't make Merrill Gardens responsible for reconnecting them. There isn't a lot of entertainment. Housekeeping doesn't do much. I have to clean dust from baseboards etc. I didn't get an orientation, but I'm independent. The food is good, however the serving staff are still learning to clean tables after a group has left and before another group of diners sit down. The staff are friendly. Having a garage space for my vehicle is great.

The communication, transparency and planning when it comes to the care of the residents can be a little wonky at times.

Had heard such good things about the facility. It was the only place that she would would agree to move in. A bit disappointing especially with the food. Too spicy, too much pepper, menu plan is very interesting at best. Prefers to eat in her room but facility is not happy about that.

The staff has been very helpful and took care of all the questions I had. The community is filled with friendly and helpful people. I have found it really easy to make friends. The activities have lots of things for us to do.

I have been living here for two years and four months and I have had three executive directors. The current one is the best. She listens and has designated an hour of here workdays to meeting with residents. She is sensitive to the needs of the residents. She has been hiring staff members who are like minded in serving the residents courteously, bringing with them knowledge and skills and experience that the residents have not had for a long time. The ONE BIG PROBLEM is replacing an open housekeeper position. I am confident that when she finds one who meets the requirements of the job, she will hire the right one. Safety and security in the community should be looked into. The continuing high annual increase in the rent is driving away long time residents. I suggest awards to residents on their 10th anniversary, 15th anniversary and perhaps to someone who turns 100 years old to show Cogir's appreciation for loyalty or something. Thank you.

I enjoy the local church's visits to our community. I also enjoy [name removed] monthly presentations on various historical topics. I enjoy our needle nuts club (knitting & crocheting) and the sense of purpose it provides. I have met some wonderful, friendly people!

I enjoy the many different people I have met here. I particularly love all the different programs that are offered. I find them all interesting and fulfilling and I absolutely love dancing at happy hour!

The people here are truly enjoyable. I love being able to pick and choose what I want to do. I especially look forward to our flower arranging classes and beading classes. I like meeting with other people and sharing time with whoever I choose to be with!

I have made several great friends since moving into Acoya Troon. I really love it here and that is the honest truth. I enjoy all of the activities and diversity and especially look forward to the many different outings offered each month!

I enjoy so much here. They keep me busier than I have been in years. There's just so much to do! Our activity director keeps us very busy and I love every minute of it. I have made so many new friends and I am really enjoying life here!

I have been here since mid November and I am very pleased with my apartment. People here are very nice. I've met some nice people. Management is helpful and try hard to accommodate our needs. Meals are good if not always fancy. It's quite comfortable. It's not the fanciest place in town although everything is clean and functional. It also is not the most expensive. The newer places were all out of my price range and I guess there may be those who would prefer newer or fancier things but I personally find everything really comfortable. They do meals, clean for us weekly and provide transportation to appointments, shopping and other events. There's programs throughout the week to entertain us, provide things to do, a nice library and workout room. It provides me with ability to live in a safe environment in my own place. There is an emergency contact program to call for help if needed. My son was comfortable with me living alone here. I'm quite happy. As I stated the place is immaculately clean and maintained, but if your expectation is shiny and new it may not be your style. However as noted it is also not most expensive although I've seen more expensive that weren't as functional to me.

The name fits, this is a community with a heart and care for our mom. The staff are wonderful and truly have a heart for the elderly.

Before I moved to Cogir at Fremont about two years ago, I had personal experience in another similar facility for a year and knowing multiple different settings of such kinds. So fairly, I would give 5 stars to activities and the director of the show. But the negative sides of the activities included too much alcohol drinking socials and gambling activities with real money such as bingos, ma-chung. I am not even sure it is allowed by the California State laws. The facility invests money on the activities surely benefit to residents, I appreciate! I hope the food can get better in quality and cooking. Too much wine purchases for small amount of drinkers take away maturity residents food quality. It makes the kitchen only gets one star , in fact, it’s food 80% of the lunch and dinner main dishes are from poor quality meats or sandwiches from processed meats, canned foods… the staff at dining room mostly good but some having mood swings. Undeniably that they worked very hard mostly.
