Willow Pointe Assisted Living

This review pertains to the assisted living facility (memory care is also offered). This facility was taken over by a corporation in fall of 2013. Since then, the building was remodeled somewhat and brought into compliance with safety features to prevent wanderers. The rooms are a reasonable size, and the meals are provided by Sysco systems. The facility is not well designed for people with mobility issues and there is only one small elevator centrally located at the center of two wings (three floors). Thus, there are heavy congestion points on each floor at meal times that delays in calls from residents. Like many facilities, WP was designed with a much more independent client in mind. The quality of care varies from day to day and sometimes shift to shift. The night shift is apparently a difficult shift to staff in many facilities and the staffers vary in skill and tolerance. AT WP, Meds were not always dispensed or accounted for (doses were sometimes skipped or delayed). Responses to calls from residents also varied. Sometimes staff came quickly; sometimes, not at all. More than once I was followed to the parking lot so the staffer could cancel a call signal, despite the fact that no one had responded to it earlier. Meal times are generally pleasant, but some residents were overlooked at times and not fed until they protested. Many of these problems apparently stem from understaffing or lack of coordination among scheduled staff. Also, there seemed to be a huge turnover within one year. The activities vary according to the personality of the facilities coordinator. Most days the activities were lackluster; however, after a long period of time, the facility added a transport bus to take some residents on field trips, though it is unclear how regularly scheduled these will be and WP does not appear to be offering personal drop-off/pick-up service. Communication with the facility is hit or miss. Sometimes responses are prompt, but more often they are delayed and sometimes not addressed at all. The coordination between the staff nurse and management unclear, which I believe can pose a danger to a resident, whose behaviors may be directly connected to the meds they receive and the behaviors they exhibit. The monthly costs are slightly below competitors and the facility will accept Medicaid (or the WI equivalent) if a resident exhausts financial resources while residing there (though this may have changed). Overall, this is an adequate facility that is reasonably priced, but if you allow your loved one to live there, be vigilant!

Was not impressed

We toured this community when we were looking into care options for a loved one. I wasn't too impressed with what I saw here. They didn't keep up on the cleaning nearly as well as some other communities we saw, and it seemed pricey for the level of service that they provided.

Hopeful about the new management.

We decided to stay here, we thought about moving but we decided to stay. The regional manager was able to help us resolve the issues we had. If you are on the assisted living they are not really equipped to handle someone with Alzheimer's. If you are not disabled and have most of your faculties, it's a really nice place. We had a few issues, but I think all of that will be addressed with the new management.

When you meet with management and corporate and things don't change

We chose them because the lady that had been working with them had made a good deal for me. It was not a good location for us. Management is week, they don't seem to follow through, and if they do it only lasts a couple of weeks. The staff seems to do what they want to do. The food was not very good. The activities were just okay, they looked like they had more at one time, but there was always some reason things didn't happen. When you meet with management and corporate and things don't change, then it's time to move.

Quail Run was very nice, very clean. ...

Quail Run was very nice, very clean. The people who worked there seemed nice too, but I don't know how well they are trained to take care of people who are very ill and have special needs. Perhaps a nursing home would have been a better choice, but I wasn't crazy about the hospital-y atmosphere. My mom had COPD and was on oxygen, and I found two times that no one knew how to refill the liquid oxygen tank, and found her with an empty tank. Granted, this is right after she got the liquid oxygen, but this is a very big issue. Then, she needed a bi-pap machine at night, but she died after only one night on it. The place is laid out well, but the only bad thing is that the bigger 'events' are held in a building across the street and sometimes too much trouble to get an ill person outside and to the event, easier to just stay there, especially if the weather is bad. Also, they are very reasonably priced compared to many, but the downside is that often there are very cheap snacks/drinks provided. No brand name soda, no soda at all, in fact and Dollar Store cookies, etc. Not a big deal as I could buy better stuff myself. All in all, a pretty good experience except for the fact that young caregivers were not well-trained on special equipment . They tried quickly to get staff up to speed on the equipment, in their defense, but several hours of no oxygen could quickly kill someone who needs it desperately. Nice people, clean environment, reasonable price, nice neighborhood, plenty of parking are all the good things.

Okay First Impression

I'd say it was okay. The overall impression we had was just not as good as another place. It didn't seem as clean or as good in general. I don't know if this is fair since we just took tour but for a first impression, it was okay.

Visited 7.31 Location? Nice & close to my fave Episc. convent for retreats. Closets less generous. Some apts have nice stacked washer & dryer combos. Will have to do more book triage if choose this one, but once you find Lippleman Rd off E. Kemper, you're home-free, & Northgate Mall's handy. Holly Beltz & I got along famously! They're up-front with co$ts, which helps me.

This place seems to be for a higher level of care. it felt too small and not quite as welcoming to us.

The rooms were nice and big, The place look beautiful inside and out but the prices were very high. when the I was taken to the secured area it appear like they took out the patients and were working with just because I was there.
