Did not like what I saw during the tour

We toured this community when we were looking into care options for a loved one, and I was not impressed at all by what I saw here, I didn't even make it all the way through my tour. It seemed very unclean, the staff were not friendly, and it just did not seem like it had a good atmosphere overall.

horrible managemantM

I removed my Mother from the facility because on 4 separate occasions my Mother was given the wrong medication. As luck would have it I was there and caught it. I approached the front Desk on the first occasion and brought it to the nurses attention as well as the Executive Directors attention. The Head nurse showed no concern and the Executive Director walked off; the wellness nurse was the only one to address it. Another time the medication person was about to give her another residents medication, As usual nothing was done. As for activities 85% of the time they never take place and the residents sit around and watch TV or just stare at each other between meals, The resident turn over is huge as most relatives are not pleased with the services they receive for the amount of money charged. My mother fainted and broke her ankle one evening after dinner and had I not been there she would have stayed on the floor until the next morning as they do not do the required mandatory checks on residents after dinner. One caregiver told me that she did not have time to be bothered. I retired and am now taking care of my Mother who is very mobile and healthy but has early to moderate stage Dementia. The food was terrible and they often ran out of one of the menu items. I was having to spend more time there with my Mom than I was working.

Very disappointing

We were disappointed with this community. The building that was designed for memory – but the ones that were of higher acuity didn’t get enough attention. Building smelled like urine. There was a very high turnover of staff. The directory of the facility had only been a few months told us it was best – but to put our mom in the facility and not to tell her where she was going and not have any contact with her for ten days to let her ‘acclimatize’.

Looking for mom

Looking for a place for my mom, this was the second place we visited. Pros: lots of interesting activities, outdoor spaces, transport to mom's private doc, squarely in our budget. Cons: dirty. I couldnt believe how dirty. Poorly maintained. Reminded me of a cheap roadside hotel with chipping paint, dirty light fixtures, etc. The staff showing us around didn't seem genuine, like we were being "sold." With a little elbow grease and paint this place wouldnt be so bad.

They put on a show and don't follow through

With the level of care my mother needed, they were not there when the button was pushed, it took them a long time to get there, my mother felt that they weren't helping her at all but they really put on a show when I was there. Some of the people were nice, others were just going through the motions of doing their job. It was very, very basic and they always were nice when I talked to them but they didn't follow through with the things they said they would do. We left because 1. My mother wasn't happy there because she was very, very upset with the way they were treating her, they didn't do for her what she wanted them to do and 2. She worked really hard to go back home so that's what we did. The people from the outside were better than the ones on the inside, they put on a very good show and that's what happened, I did it quickly and I don't know if the other ones I looked at would have been better.

NO PLACE FOR MOM

This assisted living center keeps showing up [on the internet] as a memory care facility, it IS NOT. The building is not secure so as a person with dementia gets worse , starts to wonder or becomes aggressive they are not equipped to handle it. Don't waste your time and money placing any family member with dementia in this facility.

Do Not Send Your Loved Ones to Citidel

Citidel used to be as wonderful an experience as a senior with mental and physical challenges could expect. My dad has been there a couple of years now. When we came, there was a manager named [name removed] who was excellent and very caring. Since then, management has changed and the staff is significantly reduced. There are seniors walking in and out of random rooms, falling because there is limited help to ensure their safety and my dad has even worsened due to the staff not ensuring that he remembers to drink his water regularly. The workers there have quite a bit to maintain. It is really a challenge to manage a group of seniors who are used to managing their own affairs, but now are forced to rely on the help of others to do simple things like remember to eat or drink. There is added stress on the staff and the resident when there isn't enough help to assist in keeping the seniors safe. My dad is in hospice care now. There have been times when I have come and discovered him in his bed with the lights off, and has not been up all day or has at least eaten because of lack of employees. He has fallen and no one can provide an explanation as to why, when he is supposed to have 24 hour care, except on Sundays. This place has gone from a 4.5 star to a 1.5 star. Don't send your loved ones here.

Lacking in overall associations with residents.

Cleanliness of rooms very poor. Staff playing on phones, verses conversation with residents was noted in more than one case and of more than one staff member. Observed office staff demeaning staff member in front of other staff members. Excellent activities for residents. We spoke to some residents about food. Quality of food was over all good.

Other options for loved ones.

I was not happy with the care here. They did not have a alarm for my mom for her to get some help. They did not have a bed alarm for here when she needed help. They did not do alot to stimulate people. Since my mother came out of the community the staff has been calling to see how she is doing. My mom had fallen and I was not called right away. They did not have good communication skills with each of the staff members. My mom needed skill living. I would not recommend this community to others for care for a loved one.

memory and mom

Mom was a resident of the cottages until recently. The place is clean and the grounds well cared for and attractive. What is of great concern is the administration changing four times in a year. You never knew who was in charge. Each one had their own way of following the guidelines. The help inadequate and changed so often there was no consistency. The few we could get to know were caring individuals but others changed every time we visited. We were told that if mom needed more help they would move her to a cottage with more care. That is not true. They asked her to leave as she needed more care. Of course, they kept her initial one time only fee of $2,500.00 entry fee.

Very Disappointed!

We were impressed with everything. We thought we found the perfect place for our mom. She was assessed by their staff. We were told she was level 1 and a good fit for Crimson Pointe. We moved her in only to be called 24 hours later. We were then told we had to pick her up as soon as possible. It was not possible for her to stay. They didn't even give Mom a chance to get acclimated to her new environment. We had to move Mom back home and we are starting over. We were told the refund will take 30-45 days. We are very disappointed. My caution is: their staff is incompetent to access patients. Get something in writing if they access your loved one.

Not Impressed

Drab and dirty . I was not impressed with this facility at all. The location in Vinings is great, but it is need of a redo. Residents. I met just seemed sad. This ended up on the bottom of my list. They also were giving free rent on your 3rd and 4th month which was a red flag that the place was not on the top of anybody's list.

Things are not as they appear

[Removed] Dimmed lighting to dumb the residents down and make dirt harder to see. The staff have clever little things that they tell you that *seem* spontaneous but are actually carefully crafted phases and buzzwords, cute and phoney.<br />Like dog food, what you're buying is a product that's cleverly packaged and slickly advertised. Do you really love the person you're considering leaving at Somerford? If yes, then find a smaller establishment where a person will have some dignity.

Not appropriate for residents who need enhanced care

The building is nice, clean and provides able-bodied residents who do not have any physical limitations the freedom to roam. Large outdoor walking, dining and activity space for good weather days. Caring staff could greatly benefit from specific training on how to care for patients with dementia and how to assist residents who need assistance with transfers and mobility issues. There were not enough front line staff to assist residents with transfers which caused many problems. Staff was caring and devoted to their work but many were not trained to work with residents who have dementia and mobility challenges. Staff ratio to residents only allows minimal interaction with residents. If a resident is able to get themselves to the activities, the activity director is great but she doesn’t have any assistance so there are not nearly as many activities as advertised or listed on the calendar and staffing at the activities is bare. Charter has potential but needs more and well trained staff

Do not place your loved one in this facility!

Constant management turnover. Constant CNA turnover, and the new management team is RACIST against the residents and staff!!!! If your loved one is black, please don’t place them there! If you have a black loved one here PLEASE consider moving them ASAP! The new ED is a joke and is as racist as her marketing team. She’s running the place like a plantation. Didn’t even celebrate black history and the marketers call the staff MONKEYS!!! [name removed] is a bat crazy racist and Keith is a racist as well! Corporate does nothing about it. The building is filthy and smells like urine especially in memory care.

Don't do it

Best thing going for this place is the smallness and one level. They do not monitor what they eat. Residents are given a menu in the morning to pick for tomorrow. Do not have a diabetic or congestive heart failure choices. Management - where to I begin. Just do not do it - go elsewhere. They want your business but not the task of educating the resident and family members how things work. Noone is really sure what the left hand or right hand is doing. On my moms move in day she had to be there at 1pm - not sure why. I thought there would be a tour or briefing or something - nothing - just verbal welcome and come have some lunch. If you do decide to go here DO NOT DO OUR MEDICINCE THRU NAUTILUS!!!!!! If your loved one comes home it is not a flip of the switch like [name removed], executive director makes it out to be. Is a nightmare and noone at charter knows the protocol and noone wants to accept responsibility for their error. Seems to be a ongoing problem.
