A Place for Mom has scored Cedarhurst Living LLC with 8.7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 427 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Cedarhurst Living LLC has 1,645 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.3 out of 5.
Everyone is very nice and place is clean and good energy and my dad loves the different activities. The negative part of our experience was that they needed to redo his room and they kept pushing his move-in date back. Once we had an official move-in date and we had all my father's belongings to move in we go to his room and his room is completely gutted and not finished. The individual that came up to his room who I am assuming was the GM was told that my father's room was also finished and when he saw that it was not he was very deeply sorry and we put my dad into a one bedroom room until the room that he was supposed to move into was finished. . As I go and visit now and see the rooms that were vacant, but are expecting people to move in have welcoming signs on their doors and I feel like my dad didn't even get an official welcome. I understand that things happen and there were also some miscommunications about certain deposits and things like that. So I think all in all they just need better communication. My dad is in his regular room and has settled in nicely.

Well as I toured the facility, it was very nice. except for the Memory Care. It had a very strong bad odor, and I at once decided to myself, I wouldn't want my loved one or friend living in the Memory Care. Then my friend was assessed to live in assisted living there. She was not able to get up by herself, go to the bathroom without help, so she just sat in her lift chair not remembering how to lift it up, and couldn't get a drink of water or anything, just sat there till someone came and checked on her. She had a call button, but was unable mentally to use it. It is a lovely facility, all but the Memory Care, but she was not in the proper place she needed to be, with her Memory issues and not able to get up or walk. She was only there in her apt 13 days out of the 2 mo. her rent was paid, as she had to go to the hospital, have surgery, then go to rehab. We could not give them a 30 day notice prior to her leaving, as we were told by her insurance company, just a couple of days before the end of the month, but I did give them a 30 day notice as soon as I got her things out, before the new month. They still insisted on removing more money from her checking account after that. They were not concerned about her only getting to be there but 13 days, and proceeded to take more money.

Although when we first moved in, the salesperson was organized and attentive. Since we've moved her in, there has been turnover constantly with two new directors of nursing, another one. Just quit there is turnover with the activity director the overall director and nobody seems to have appropriate education to take care of people with dementia

We toured here and were considering it. We saw few flags but nothing too concerning. A bit of a urine odor in memory care. A few people in an office behind a nurses station said a few curse words as we entered the memory space. As we were walking out after our tour someone we had seen in the memory care area with a resident asked if we were moving in. We said we were considering it and they warned us not to. They said their family members had been there a while. In the beginning it was good but it dropped off quickly. They said communication is very poor. Difficult to get a call back. The Executive Director is dismissive and talks more than she listens. Never enough staff. No one answers phone after hours. Lots of falls and mysterious bruises. Sometimes their mom wasn't bathed. Some staff seem to care but others are cruel and talk as if the residents arent there. As she cried she said she regrets making this choice. We decided to keep looking. I hope this helps.

We took our mother out after a little over 2 weeks there. Not a good fit for her!! The staff there are very nice and accommodating when you request something of them. However, they rarely checked in our mother (we had a camera in her room and watched it consistently). The staff spent minimal time with her in her room. The food was like cafeteria food and not good at all. Residents were minimally tended to (short staffing issues). The halls smelled of urine and BM's more often than not. Residents rarely got to go outside despite having a courtyard. The chairs in the halls are cloth and have urine stains, other areas are not cleaned/disinfected well. Not a lot of activities for the residents except TV and sitting in their chairs. Not sure how they have earned awards! They will also lie and tell you if they rent your apartment before the 30 day move out notice is up you will get a refund, then once moved out tell you they won't give the refund even when they moved someone else in!!!

My family has had a horrible experience there. Head of nursing does not know what she is doing. If you complain or question anything, there is retaliation. Housekeeping is horrible, we did a lot of the cleaning ourselves. They pushed Dover health & hospice on us, then we find out they are all owned by the same company. The service from Dover Hospice was not good. They talk about how great the food is, but most of the residents complain about it daily. Small unappetizing meals, especially on the Memory level. Half the time they don’t even give them a napkin. Always some pink lemonade type drink. Watched the server put ice into the glasses with her bare hands. I would not use Cedarhurst again for any family member, but especially not one with memory needs. We moved our parent and the service at the new facility is amazing.

The caretakers there were very good , but the corporate headquarters are immoral. The facility would not take my father back after rehab because his condition had worsened, yet they charged him for 2 months of personal care ($[fee removed]) even though he was no longer a resident. How does the CEO live with himself, stealing money from the old!!!!!

Lots of fluff. Shows good but very short on professional staff. I’m still paying on a $[removed] hospital bill initiated by Cedarhurst. This would be the last place to consider for a loved one. Again, shows well but very unskilled staff.

We, too, were awed by the “resort” atmosphere of CedarHurst. So much so that we moved our loved one into Memory Care. It is not, however, what you think. Most issues are related to the staff. The (most not all) RAs are not interested in doing their jobs as our loved one lacked proper basic care. A lot of time was spent sitting and talking or looking at their phones. If management was doing their jobs this might have been different but we hardly saw any management around unless they were walking out of their office to leave the memory care unit. The apartment was always dirty and had ants. The laundry was not handled well as things disappeared. The bedding was changed far too many times by family because it was dirty. We had a constant problem with the staff not covering the bed with the mattress pads we provided. The food was almost always cold when the staff serving it were right there but were in no hurry to serve it. Absolutely NOT worth the huge price tag.

There is such a turn over with staff. Which is very common these days I know. I didn't like the shared rooms. Something helpful, ask for a private room. Communicate with staff regularly, go at different times of the day to see what is happening. I am sorry if my comments are not helpful. It wasn't a great experience.

They did not do laundry as often as they promised. My loved one dropped food on floor while eating and a day later it was still there. My loved one sat in a wet diaper. My loved one also laid on a bed with no sheets. Had we not lived close and checked often, God only knows the conditions. Sorry to say we would not recommend

My loved one loves her one bedroom room and it has a reasonable view (not just a parking lot). This is NOT a studio style. She has a living area with a kitchenette including a refrigerator and microwave with a separate bedroom (and a nice bathroom). There was no physical move in assistance. Like most any place, there are good staff and not so good staff. Housekeeping is fair. Meals are not good. Family meals are not at all worth $8.00. The food is not the correct temperature and is poor quality. A serving of canned fruit is often considered dessert. This facility was much better before it was purchased by Cedar Creek. Many residents have moved out. My mother feels that it takes 30 +/- min for her call light to be answered. Granted, she has dementia and rarely needs to use her light, but she is still very much physically and mentally stable. There is no opportunity for trips out ie: to the store, a restaurant etc.

My father in law was a hard patient but they evaluated him before they took him in. At one point they said he needed to Leave because of his language. We understood. He had never talked like that before. We had looked at several places but they wouldn't take him because he couldn't get around well. I notified them every place I checked. I had way in advance a trip to visit my grandkids in New York. When I was there he was admitted to the hospital. They called me there and said he wasn't allowed to come back and that the hospital said they couldn't keep him any longer. When I said I wasn't home, they called my husband. I am the POA. They wanted him out. He was paid till the end of the month which was just a couple of days away. The hospital was calling and I was on my way home. After 24 hours in a train, I had to find a place for him to go and it was a weekend. My life at that point was so stressful and he ended up going to a good place but no one told him he was moving. They just loaded him in an ambulance and delivered him to a new place. Hope never does this to me

We pulled my husband's aunt from the facility. Two significant increases in rental and services without much notice raised the rate more than 20%. Also, we had employed hospice to come alongside, who came daily during the week, thus reducing the staff burden at Cedarhurst. Yet they still raised the monthly rate of increased services. We had to call a meeting with the director. Hospice present. Care was good in the early months, and horrible in the months up to leaving there. Aunt was left in a wet bed many times. We were present everyday, so we were on top of her care. Many other deficiencies. Auntie was bed ridden, so activities weren't used. Cedarhurst did have a wonderful activities director and help. Very kind and many things for more fit residents. Director was difficult to deal with at the end. Said her hands were tied with the poor care and she couldn't do anything about it, as she had threatened people with losing their jobs. The same day that she said that, my aunt was again urine soaked through the mattress pad. I took the director with me and told her we were moving our aunt. She advised me that where we were considering moving wouldn't give auntie good care. She was wrong. It's not how much you pay or how fancy the place is, that's for certain.

My mom is a current resident. They really sold this place well to us but what she gets is not what they promised. They seem to be plagued with problems. They have had constant staff turnovers, and problems with finding staff. She has gone 3 weeks, at times, without having her bed changed or apartment cleaned. It is vacuumed but never dusted. The portions of food being served has gone down. Some nights at dinner due to lack of staff, she has waited 45 minutes for her food to be brought to her table. They provide transportation to doctor appointments but only if it is on a Monday or Wednesday and if you give at least a weeks notice. Now she gets hit with a 21% rate increase with no new services but continued cuts.

My loved one is a resident at Cedar Creek of Washington and overall his experience at this facility was great until they were bought out. Things have changed. The food is now cold and unpleasant. The nursing staff is not as attentive as they should be. My loved one was seen in-house by the NP on Monday evening. It's now Friday evening and two of her new medications have yet to be given. Both are very common OTC medications. The housekeeping has declined. My loved one's toilet is not cleaned and his room is not thoroughly vacuumed. I no longer recommend Cedar Creek of Washington to others.

The experience started out good but as time went on and more care was needed, Cedarhurst made promises for increased care but never followed through on those promises. When we moved in, there were 2 RA’s on staff. Now they are down to only one. This isn’t enough for the amount of residents. Many times my loved one would sleep in and they would but the residents breakfast on the counter and it would be there for 2 hours and then when the resident got up they gave it to the resident cold. Very disappointing. They work fine with residents that are completely independent but they do not have the skills or training to work with residents with personal hygiene issues or cognitive issues.
