our families experience

Overall seems like a nice facility until you go into the memory care unit. Be aware most staff don't actually work at the facility they are from a staffing agency. So every day it's new face who operates differently. In a memory care unit this can make a loved one even more confused/stressed. The folks that do actually work at the facility are very nice. The corporate office stated they don't have any staffing agency on site anymore( which most of them are).!!You get what you pay for cheap for a reason, In my opinion pay the extra money to go to a well staffed facility. They try and price an all inclusive pricing but all the do is lack in care. So your charged the same amount of money as another resident who needs more assistance. I would consider this almost more of an independent facility who serves medication. Also another FYI the 60 day guarantee only applies to certain facilities so be sure to ask or make the smart decision for your loved one and simply chose another facility.

Absolutely Awful Place

Cedarhurst was an absolutely awful place, my parents were miserable there! My dad passed, and no one told his wife, so she went to his room to find him dead. Was coroner contacted? No routine-night meds, meals late many times for over an hour, very small portions, left hungry several times. Turnover rate - cooks, servers/care helpers. People playing on phones in hallway, or just chatting while people need help-including a resident who fell, was on the floor struggling to get up- finally after me asking them to help her they said Oh, she falls all the time, and laughed. In armchairs - shoes off. Food cart being taken to secondary dining room during new floor construction in main dining room-stood in hallway on phone for several minutes while people were waiting for their dinner. Being given other peoples medicine. Evening medication given anywhere from 4:30-10:00 at night-have asked repeatedly for it to be given between 8:00 and 9:00 in the evening. Keep giving food to my father he can't have, despite several conversations, being given renal failure restriction charts, including getting grilled cheese sandwiches despite not supposed to have dairy. Potatoes almost every day, tomato soup (again, not good for him!) Running out of food-my dad didn't get any chicken soup because they ran out! POOR phone skills-been on hold for over an hour!!!!! from approximately 4:10-5:40 (I gave up). Slow staff attending medical issues- Dad's eye took 2 1/2 weeks to be addressed by [name removed]. Mom's injured back- I called, spoke with nurse, and it took almost 3 hours after I called to get anyone to check her out. It took [name removed] coming in to get my mother any help around 10:30 in the morning and she fell in the middle of the night. Needed help to get up-yet no one checked on her to make sure she was ok until I called.

This is NOT a good place for mom!

After 14 months of medication dispensing disasters, lack of communication with nursing and management, and overall poor and unattended care, we moved our mother to a new facility. Cedarhurst of Dyer is a business, not an assisted living facility.

Wound issues with my parent

Absolutely disgusted that this place has not been shut down. There is no one at the front desk. If you bring up concerns to “management” they ignore you, or do nothing about it, or the put you on a no visit list. They have agency out of the building, but it seems like it was better when they had them in because the agency workers actually took care of my loved one. They got rid of the only nurse who cares, [name removed] which my entire family loved her. My loved one is left to sit in the lobby for hours after she’s eaten and not to her bed so she can sleep. The turnover is tremendous. As soon as we all have hope it is turning around the people who are good are gone and all that is left is terrible Managment. Numerous complaints to corporate, the building and state and it is still getting worse. If my loved one didn’t have dementia and she has already decLined we would have moved her. I hope this reaches you before you move a loved one into this terrible place.

Do not consider Cedarhurst

This was a nightmare with my Mother here. They messed up her meds. The worst was when the director of wellness Lisa came into my Mothers room & threatened her. She had Covid, couldn’t swallow & told her she couldn’t stay there. I was with her the Second time this bully came in & threatened her. They give you the CEDARHUST promise, if they can’t resolve an issue & you move out within 60 days, you will receive your rent back. They DO NOT HONOR THEIR PROMISE. We were not the only ones complaining about this bullying behavior.. we are in the process of writing the Better Business Bureau & speaking to an Attorney. No one should be allowed to treat people, especially vulnerable Seniors with such mean hostile behavior. They claim they’ve addressed this, but in reality they have NOT! The expense of moving her in and out was worth my Mothers mental & physical health. This is not the place to put an elderly relative. Shame on Cedarhust for the treatment & outright lies!

Bad business practices

Extremely dissatisfied with the level of competency of this facility, customer service up to the corporate level, and follow through of their own business practices or “claims”. My grandmother became a resident of this facility and after falling 4 times, needed hospitalization and outside therapy services. She is no longer welcome back at Cedarhurst. To me, this means that either in 10.5 days time, my grandmother has significantly regressed past the maximum level of care, or her evaluation should have never allowed her to be accepted as a resident in the first place. The latter of which is more likely true. This company claims to have a 60 day money back guarantee. After 10 days in this facility and just over a month past her move in date, local offices have FINALLY returned calls and DENIED our refund request. It has been less than 60 days since she moved in and now she is not allowed back. We’re STILL waiting on a returned call from corporate.

The nursing staff is great, and I have nothing negative to say about the medical staff. The food is good, and I have tried the breakfast and lunch before. The dining room is nice. The chef/cook is very pleasant. The wait staff is extremly helpful. I don't feel lik, my loved one received proper attention, that was needed. Overall, they don't have the proper protocols for safety of the residents.

Bad experience

There are no nurses at night in the memory care unit. They are understaffed with CNAs at night. My loved one was on the floor for hours at one time and I had to take him to the ER - he had a stroke. We did use cameras in the room and that was the only way I knew what was happening. They would bring him in after supper set him on the side of the bed and leave for a few hours. We were very dissatisfied with them and would not recommend to others looking for memory care for their loved ones.

Needs improvement

I would tell others looking into Cedarhurst of Frankfort to make sure to do their homework and really talk to them about how they train their staff. We had issues with the care and they did not follow the proper protocols that we expected them to. There has also been no follow up or response from corporate when we reached out about these issues.

Go elsewhere

This new facility looks beautiful but uses mostly agency staff where they do not know their patients, many agency are there for just 1-2 days and do not provide adequate care. Food is terrible and despite overwhelming complaints from families nothing is done. Many management overhead changes in only 6 months obviously due to family complaints.

I would say go somewhere else. My loved one was left alone, very much on his own. There is not enough oversight. It's clean, but it's a brand new facility. I haven't tried the food , but it looks palatable. Overall I was not happy.

No. no no.Depressing. Looked like not enough care partners. Huge range of cognitive-physical needs of residents. Huge open spaces...overwhelming nothing tying things together.

Live like Repunzel. Locked away from family.

My mother has lived in this facility for almost five years. They over promise and under deliver in nearly every area. The ‘house keeping’ provided is abysmal. They vacuum through the middle of the apartment and clean nothing. The food quality has gotten worse yearly. They serve absolutely no fresh seasonal fruits or vegetables. Since Covid- it feels as if you have locked your loved one away- at a very high cost. They rule with tyranny. My mother has had 2 vaccines, but cannot leave overnight without being quarantined to her apartment yet again. We have to wear 2 masks to visit- stay distanced, no eating or drinking.....we have not been in our mom’s apartment for over a year. As restrictions everywhere are lightening up- the Cedarhurst is locking down:( My mother is getting increasingly depressed and wanting to go to heaven to get out of the Cedarhurst. They are a nightmare to deal with. I would look elsewhere if you love the person you are looking to move....

Draconian policies make this Residence a nightmare for everyone!!!

Do not move someone you love into the Cedarhurst. It has been a nightmare for the last year due to Covid. But their policies go way beyond Draconian and continue even after the vaccine. Nothing has changed, except policies are more tyrannical than ever!!!! They do not even follow CDC guidelines, they make their own to make life miserable for the residents, and loved ones who are barely allowed to visit. My mother's life was already small, but they manage to make it smaller by the day. The food is not good quality. Housekeeping is abysmal. The 'housekeeper' runs a vacuum through the middle of the apartment once a week. Cleans nothing!!!! Activities provided are a joke. Look around - there are many places that have opened up for the residents and family and are trying to get back to normal. The Cedarhurst is not one of them...

Lots of Empty Promises Here!

Our loved one has been a resident since the facility opened in March 2018. Wow...it seemed to be a perfect fit when we toured with [name removed], who was awesome, but no longer there like most of the staff we met. If only they could deliver what was promised in the beginning. Staff turnover is obnoxious, Executive Directors have come and gone, a Regional Director was overseeing last we heard, which is a joke. No structure, no follow up, no compassion for resident needs whether medical or preferences. Missing personal belongings that are labeled. The onsite, "state of the art" medical clinic still under construction...supposed to be done May 2018. It's unfortunate because it really is a pretty property but don't let looks fool you. I would not recommend. We are in the process of moving our loved one to another facility.

Choose wisely

Would not recommend. Brand new facility and excessive turn over with 4+ Executive Directors. Care issues and complaints. Consistency, relationships and security should be a priority!

Go anywhere but here

I would not recommend this establishment unless your loved one truly needs to be on the highest level of services--and doesn't need nursing services. Personnel with try to itimidate your loved one into signing for more (unneeded) services, and give statements to Dr that were proven to be false. It took getting regional management involved to get things straightened out....and then hold them to that. Even with a written agreement, the individual tried to do the same thing and had to be reminded what the agreement stated. DOCUMENT all meetings and notes you send. Agree to nothing over the phone and don't let them rush you through meetings. It doesn't matter what they tell you if the paperwork doesn't match. Additionally, watch your bill VERY VERY closely. We had trouble for 3 months to get a straight bill and in the end, instead of us owning them $$$$ they owed us a refund!! Be aware there are NO nursing services overnight and if there is an issue, a CNA may argue with you about calling an EMS-even when there are injuries that required surgery. The day to day staff were pleasant and caring. They were the bright spot of this establishment. The director did try to remedy the situation, but wasnot able to ensure that the bullying individual did not continue acting unprofessionally. As a private pay establishment, I did not expect to have to fight to ensure my loved one was not safe physically and emotionally.
