The facility is lovely, well organized for memory-challenged residents. Would love to have my father here but $209/day is too expensive and they will not budge. The care-giving staff appears to be very young and they do not interact with the residents when serving lunch. One seemed friendly to us.

Great Security! Thanks ---"A Place for Mom" !

I like the facility the people are very nice. They call me anytime they have a problem with Louise. But they tend to be a little harsh when they try to correct her but it may be what they need to do given certain circumstances. Their security is great. They had a bit of an incident one day with a man walking in there with a gun and they immediately locked down all doors which I thought was great. A Place for Mom was great in helping us find this place and they did a great job for us.

Pleasant and comforting, but not inspiring

When you talk to them they speak well and they're kind of like a Johnny-on-the-spot when talking to you, but I'm unsure if it always gets down to their floor staff. The floor staff are all very friendly, mostly no one ever gives you a hard time. It's hard to say much bad about them, but they're kind of bland and the reality may be that "bland" is the best you can get when it comes to Alzheimer's - unless we adapt a widely new approach to this disease. The meals appear to be timely and properly cooked, but not very inspired. In the memory care unit, as I think is true of most places within the U.S., none of these places have a clue what's the best approach for a diet when you have Alzheimer's disease. The meal selection is kind of medium-fair. I know they have activities, but I'm unsure how much of those activities include memory care. Memory care consists of having a locked door, and that's the primary activity or mechanism they use. They'll lock the door because if not, they will wander. The doors are alarmed and you can go out for an emergency, but they will sound an active alarm. Every once in a while the alarm flares up and it just keeps going, as the evening staff kind of get around to it when they get around to it. I don't think they're much worried about the residents leaving or getting far because of their limited mobility. They're not Johnny-on-the spot to respond to the door alarm. They're not bad, just not very impressive. In this town, when you want to staff something like this place, you wont get the crème of the crop who's applying for the job. They are very friendly and try to do reasonably well, there will still be a little of an uphill battle. I'm always there when I'm not out of town or in the hospital sick, but I'm there every almost single day. I mostly visit during the evening as I don't want to break up my time by coming during the day. I'm not sure how actively she participates. She gets kind of contrary, so things I've talked about that I'd like her to do, she won't do them and they won't fight her too much. The last time they tried to get her engaged she slapped someone and cursed a little, which is so unlike her. I don't know how much is fair to say; I get the impression that their activities aren't much different and may be a little less frequent than her previous community. It doesn't compare to the activities her grandmother received in nursing home, but she wasn't in a memory care unit. There are a lot of constraints over what they can do and there are also constraints over what I can say. I'll need to talk to their administrative staff because she's been prescribed a medication and there is no indication, to my knowledge, that she needs to be on that medication - as she does not have any of the conditions that are related to the use of that medication. It's an okay place and it's very attractive looking. It looks quite proper and it has a wing for memory care; the rest of the rather large building is assisted living and they can come and go as they please. They have some control over the doors after a certain time of night. If you come by late, you have to pick up a phone to be let in and they are pretty good with that. It's not a place you can say much negative about. It's kind of bland, but it's closer than the other place and probably better because it's condition and cleanliness is better than her previous community. It's posh-looking; they keep it clean and it's only about five to six years old. The carpeting was beginning to reflect the time and now they're working on replacing it. There are no major negatives. They hand their cards out readily and they answer the phone when they are there. So it's okay, but it's just not the kind of place that fires you up. They try very hard to be friendly and helpful for me, but there aren't any good answers to Alzheimer's, especially in America.

Cedarhurst-Good but needs some improvement

There was one incident, in which my loved one did not have any clean towels, in their bathroom. The staff is responvise, when there is complaints. My loved one loved one is happy with the food, and has not complained about it. It's a clean facility, the people are nice. The only issue, that they seem to have is with managing day to day chores. Sometimes the clothes are being mixed up amongst other residents.

Looks clean and friendly. Does not mean you'll get the care you think you're going to get.

They say they're assisted living, and their idea of assisted living is walking somebody back and forth to the dining hall or watching them take a shower so they don't fall. As far as hands-on, that is not part of their facility, although they said it was. The room has been good. Kelly has done a great job with activities. The food is not the greatest, but it's okay.

A Good Place to Go

It was a very nice place and very well-maintained. They had good food. Most of the staff was pretty good, although some needed a little work. They had really good activities, but I would have liked to see them encourage the residents more to do them. But it was a good place overall. I myself would even consider going there one day if I need care.

Experience with Prairie Meadows

The front-page carefiving staff is awesome. Very caring, and they get to know the residents. It's a different environment... Lots of residents and staff in one place, so a long walk for them from one place to the next. The residents doors are all locked, with the staff having the only keys, so if you go with your loved one back to their room, you then need to look for someone to let you in. My mom was not there long, but the front-page staff were truly sad to see her go. It's nice that everything is furnished. She had a private room, but had to share a bathroom with her neighbor. Considering she was removed from her prior placement for hitting, I'm not sure how this would have gone in the long term. Management staff seem very disorganized and not as caring.

The Elmcroft was a pleasant community. The staff was very nice and treated me well during my tour. They did not offer me meals during my tour. The memory care unit was nice in this facility, while we were walking around there was a birthday party going on in one of the rooms and the residents have a mixture of activities.

What I experienced when I visited!!!

I did not like the part about the residents doors being locked and needing a key to get in from the outside. My friend needed more care than the community was able to provide. He was only there for a short respite care. The staff were nice. It is a beautiful newer community. He liked the food.

Couldn't have found a better place for mom.

Mom recently moved into Tesson Heights. They have outstanding nursing mangers Rick and Latoya. Mom really didn't won't to leave home. Latoya was so nice when she came to visit before she moved and made mom comfortable enough to give it a try. The Managers followed up personally for the 1st week for so to make sure she was adjusting well. Every staff member has been nice to my mother. The apt has room for most of mom's things to make it feel like home. I see that they have remodeled the building recently and its very nice inside. Thank everyone for the great care you give my mother. I recommend tesson to families go are looking for a place that provide quality care.

Christina Place has a lot of positive things going for it

My parents have only just recently moved into Christina Place and we are all still getting adjusted to the change. But I came for a visit and stayed the weekend with them. The place is clean, well kept, and smells nice, (not like a nursing home). The staff is friendly, helpful and readily available. They have a large well used gathering area, and the conversations seemed lively in the dining room during meals. I was very pleased to see that my parents were given a chair exercise routine to do everyday, even more pleased to see that they were doing the exercises faithfully after breakfast. I met the manager on the weekend and saw her interacting with the residents quite a bit. I like the closed square design of the building with an open courtyard in the middle. My Mom does not need memory care, but she does tend to get lost easily. At least she will only take the long way home if she takes off in the wrong direction after meals. The only thing I can see at this point that can use some improvement is the food. Getting the food out to so many people before it gets cold must be challenging, but it tastes better when it's hot. There must be some way to serve a garden salad without it getting soggy and limp from the dressing. I wish there could be a little more variety in the choices. I didn't realize what picky eaters my parents have become, must be a function of age. I'm sure that as people get to know them they will come to know what they like and just bring that coffee to the table or whatever it is they like. As I said in the beginning, my parents have just moved in, so I think it will take awhile for them to adjust. Moving is extremely stressful for older people. We want them to stay at Christina Place for the rest of their lives
