The Care, But Manage Your Expectations

The community cares. They are understaffed due to the pandemic. It can be hard to get a hold of the staff in the memory care unit. The only communication available is by phone. You can tell they really care about the residents.

Adequate

I had some administrative issues with things not getting passed down to the right people. I was disappointed that I had done so much advanced planning to have everything set up before we got there. But when we arrived the room was not ready and it still had the previous residents' things in the room, none of her medications were set up. All the planning I did ahead of time was for nothing. They were not ready for her at all. The community looks nice and it is a good value.

Good place

My father was only here for one month of assisted living until he was able to move into a facility in our town. His level of care was very high and Olympic Place did a good job helping him. They were not always able to attend to him within their promised 5 minutes so that was frustrating; he had a couple falls while impatiently waiting. The facility was clean and nice, meals looked appetizing and nutritious, and most of the staff was friendly and helpful (it seemed that some of the younger caregivers weren't especially happy to be doing that work). They were organized with my dad's complicated medication schedules. The director and nurse were welcoming when we moved dad in.

Confusion between caregiver and staff

Since my Mother-In-Law has moved in, there seems to be some confusion between a personal caregiver, and the facility’s staff members. She is paying for the highest care level they offer but, she isn’t receiving all of the services she needs. I’m not sure if that’s because of the caregiver, or because my Mother-In-Law doesn’t allow the staff members to do those things. Also, whenever I am visiting her, the staff members seem to be pleasant. However, her caregiver doesn’t get along with any of them. Until things get sorted out, I cannot recommend them.

Somewhat better than average

I was in Riverton on a temporary, assisted-living basis, recovering from a surgery. I had previously been in a full-care nursing home but transferred here. Having experienced the level of care here and at the previous facility, I feel I have a reasonable basis to evaluate things. Overall I would rate Riverton at around 3 1/2 out of 5. The staff here seems to be a bit better than average in terms of their ability and intelligence. Most, but not all, of the staff here seem to be willing to help the residents, but there are those who don't really care that much. I suspect you find this difference at all care facilities. The percentage at RIverton (in my experience with the aides) is that the division here is roughly 70/30, with 70 percent of the staff really trying to be helpful, and 30 percent not caring. At the full-care nursing facility, the percentage was roughly 60/40. The difference is in little things. Some of the aides (when they bring in meals) will take the time to unwrap things and make sure you have everything handy. Others will just dump the plates and get out as fast as they can. The upper management here is gung ho good, but don't seem to have too much awareness of what actually is happening in the facility. This was also the case at my previous facility. Beyond your initial admission, you rarely interact with them unless some issue comes up and you bring it to their attention, or they have some issue that they bring up with you. The food here is certainly better than at my previous facility. I would rate it equal to a below-average coffee shop. As a final word, I would recommend you be very careful and read all of the fine print when you are getting admitted to such a place, and make sure that the facility is completely aware of all of your questions and needs. I caught several items that could have been a problem in terms of fees and services provided. If you are not up to dealing with detailed contract language, you need to have someone by your side who can deal with such things before anything is signed.

I would not recommend this community.

The care is not the greatest. They have a younger staff of marginal caregivers. They do not offer call buttons the residents can wear they use pull cords. The food is decent if you are in the dining room. If you pay extra and have the food brought to your room it is usually cold. The community is clean. The maintenance could be a little better. I feel mom is safe here it is just not a top notch place.

She is happy there

She likes it at Silver Creek Retirement. She is happy there. She is a meticulous and particular about certain things but we are working through that. The food could be improved. I would like more fresh vegetables and fruit offered. I have eaten there before. She is out and about, not just in her room and I am happy about that. They are understaffed right now and mom has to be patient when needing help. Overall it has been a good experience.

Wish the food was better. It does have a nice variety but just not as good as I would like. The servers are good and friendly. The office staff are very good. It is clean. We decided on Spring Creek because we like the resort atmosphere rather than the old age home atmosphere. Because the last thing you want is to be reminded that you are in an old age home. The units are condo style - a bedroom, living room, huge bathroom, a walk- in closet and a kitchen sink with cabinets and condo size fridge. Other retirement homes just have a bedroom and a bathroom. The dining room is large with menus to choose from, and it is free style dining. The unit we picked is 400+ sq. ft. , monthly rent is $2790, which includes housekeeping, 3 meals + snacks, transportation to doctors and outings. in room telephone and cable. The only thing that I was not told in the beginning was that there is a $2000 one time admission fee. But I was told that most communities have that fee. My aunt moved into Spring Creek about 2 weeks ago, so far the services have been great, and the staffs seem quite friendly.

Nice place but watch the extra Assisted Living Fees

We moves mom into Olympic Place a little over a week ago. Things are going pretty good but it is certainly not perfect. Here are my concerns/ I am concerned with the Assisted Living Services fees. They have a scale of 1 to 5 service levels. When we first talked with the folks at Olympic Place, mom was going to be at level 1 (the minimum service level) which was somewhat expensive, but doable. After a couple days, they bumped her up to a level 2 then level 3 which brings the coast from $750 per month to $1600 per month. Which is not acceptable as I don't feel she needs these additional services and she frankly cannot afford it. I am still working with them/doctor/therapists to get her fees back down to a more reasonable level. Mom has complained that she is seated for meals at a table where no one talks. This might be because, they aren't able to or don't wish to. I don't know. I was original told that the management would try to get her at a table with people with similar interests. This is not happening apparently. I have asked the management to put mom at a table with more "lively" people. She isn't inclined to go to the dining room if the meals are an unpleasant/uncomfortable experience. They also have a Low Income Credit for folks who earn less than a specific income level. Other place advertise this feature, but I had to pursue this avenue as it was never mentioned until I broached the subject. Make certain you discuss this option. On the positive side, the place is VERY clean and the folks working there are very kind and helpful. The apartment is small, but very functional. It appears that there are plenty of activities for the resident to enjoy. The hard part in getting a new resident to get involved in the activities. Once the resident has been there for 4 years, they can continue living there even if they run out of funds and uses Medicaid. This was one of the main reasons that I selected Olympic Place. Some of the other facilities would kick her to the curb if she spent down all her assets. I have taken a very active role in her care and the transition. This is not the sort of place you just move mom in and leave. You need to be very proactive to insure what you originally negotiated is indeed what is being done.

Not Real Covenient

They have some cottages that a lot of couples use. They're right across from a grocery store but not real convenient as far as walking to things. There's a drug store but there's not really any shopping other that.

Review for Bonaventure of Salmon Creek

Initially, the friendliness of the staff, a sense of community and engagement in the residents, the quality of the food, and responsiveness to questions all attracted us to Bonaventure of Salmon Creek. However, there has been significant staff turnover, and complete disorganization surrounding my mother's care and keeping track of how much and what she has paid for. Her first 3 weeks she had no house cleaning or laundry service, and she was left in control of her medications. She overdosed after Christmas, and they finally took control of her medications and modified her care, but, too little, too late.

Pros and cons

Beautiful facility and Residents are Welcoming. Rooms are of good size with medical services for most, except for under staffed. Understaffed medical dispensary constantly training new staff with medication not always given on time or restocked from pharmacy that is located out of state. Assisted care staff assigned to room care are outstanding, work hard, friendly and care but due to being under staffed they need to help others on the team by working overtime. The food needs improvement. Breakfast is good, Lunch is like eating dinner heavy with gravies carbs and a vegetable or salad not a lot of lighter choices and if you have meals in your room you may not get what you ordered or condiments. Dinner resembles lunch. Management must be under staffed as well they are hard to meet with over concerns or get answers. Activities are plentiful and they love to involve the residents. There is 1 maintenance person for the facility who is kind and works hard and should have a support person to make repairs timely. They also have a person come in over the weekend to do Maintenance.

Bonaventure of East Wenatchee review

my place is clean along with the central areas but sometimes the hallways near outside doors need attention. ALL staff are fantastic. unfortunately my answer is suede by the people around me; the corporate office gets blamed for everything- terrible taste, method of preparation, running out of items; temperature of food; lack of variety; menus repeated; too much pasta, rice, breads, noodle, sauces, etc. and little protein; nutrition not balanced especially for those with health concerns, etc. Not bad in number but always have fattening food with them. have nothing to compare with but seems like not everyone pays the same for the same services Other -- safety is a concern especially on sidewalks; communications could be improved with an intro handout, emails, Responding to residents' questions and suggestions
