Bonaventure

Getting used to the new lifestyle living. The apartment we have is comfortable. Management has been very supportive and cooperative. Dining has been good to excellent service except this last month when the head chef has been on vacation. Now it has been ok. The head chef should be back in about a week.

It is a well run facility and seems to have low staff turnover. My mom really likes it there and has met some nice friends that she eats every meal with. It was a good decision to move her from an independent living facility to one that has assisted living with memory care.

It's fairly new so always some bugs to work out. Staff is great although lots of turnover it seems. Food is excellent. Rooms very nice. Management is very responsive and involved and friendly.

It may be same in most assisted living facilities but there has been A LOT of staff turn over in the year that we have had our loved one there, from director on down. Staff retention has suffered. It is a very nice facility and we are still happy that we chose it. Hoping existing issues straighten out.

Overall, Bonaventure was the best in this category as far as we could tell, and we looked at a lot of them. The community is kept as clean as possible by a staff that really cares about their job. The administrative staff seems to know everyone by name and they're always very helpful when you ask them questions. There is an activity schedule put out every day that will satisfy most people with something they like to do. The dining experience can sometimes be a challenge with the amount of wait staff that changes, but I believe they do their best. Not everyone likes everything on the daily menu, but there are off-menu choices you can get. It's not a restaurant, but the dining area is comfortable. Bonaventure has its problems like every facility does, but I believe they work to try to correct these problems within the rules they have to follow from corporate.

Food is good. Staff is friendly and capable (though high staff turnover is an issue that results in gaps and delays). Fellow residents have a good sense of community. Our apartment is large and comfortable. Good services nearby.

The staff really took care of my mom. Concerns were timely addressed. I thought they could have kept the place in better condition.

We chose Woodland Retirement because of the cleanliness, personnel, and value for the money. They are always changing the personnel. Don't get me wrong, the ongoing personnel is good but it seems whenever I call in the past it's always someone different.

Beautiful building, staff very good/ nice and friendly, building has independent living, assisted living and Memory Care. Memory care very good with good ratio of caregivers to residence. Friendliness- I have been here [time frame removed] and only one man has spoken to me, very few men respond even to a good morning in the hallway. Women are more friendly and converse when approached.

Food was not well targeted to my father's diabetes. changed medical bill within 2 weeks. No bridge to Medicaid. Once funds are expended you're out. The facility director spoke poorly of other competing facilities. I felt this was unprofessional

Do not let them take over as your drug dispensary. If you need to return medication, don't depend on them getting that done. Drugs just go missing, with no accountability. I figure [name removed] lost about $[removed] in missing drugs. Who knows what happened...Then, he is suppose to get an emergency medical wristband, that was paid for and he never got one. After 8 months of nagging, I finally gave up. So the place is not perfect, but way better than most, so we are overall happy with most of our experience's.

Staff seems friendly. Facilities are clean. Only negative seems to be that they have a lot of staff turnover.

I think so far the issues we're dealing with are more related to my mom just having a hard time adjusting and settling in and nothing really to do with the community. We've been pretty happy with Bonaventure and the people. We really like and appreciate the friendliness of the staff and the activities offered. The cleanliness is okay. It's not pristine but not trashy. Same with the food. Some of the meals are really good but some are not so great.

It's a wonderful facility. I just wish they could keep the number of employees up to a good level to accommodate all the residents. I'm pretty sure this is probably a problem all the way around. 1) Bonaventure of Puyallup, the assisted living side is where my mother is currently living. Her overall experience is good. Friendliness, everyone seems happy to be there or work there. There are few individuals that are not as pleasant, but I think that's just their characteristic overall. They do have a problem with turnover. The individuals that do stay are wonderful so I'm assuming that has to do with their pay. Since they're not aren't enough of them, my mother has had to wait longer for her medication's and for assistance sometimes, but they all do have a life link pendant. Again, there are some staff changes that occur within the facility and to other facilities more frequently than she has encountered in her past location of [community removed]. They are very cordial and knowledgeable to the residence and families. The food is adequate. They are meeting their dietary needs. But I don't think they're taking into account there. Social, physical needs with the deciding of food choices. Many don't have the dexterity to twirl spaghetti so why not make it an elbow macaroni? Some of the food is bland, and that is one of the unfortunate things of that type of massive production. It seems they have a six week rotation that they do for the menu. Suggestions made are usually met with a little hesitation, but change as occur. Activities are geared to the individuals that are providing them not taking into account that some of the residents aren't up and out of bed early in the morning. As with my mother, she stays in her apartment and has a small breakfast and it takes her a while to get dressed. They provide an exercise program, but it's only in the morning, and I have suggested that they also provide for the afternoon for those individuals who don't get up so early. They do have a weekly movie and weekly church and a bowling alley two lanes, many crafts and incoming entertainment such as barbershop quartet, choirs, discussions, pertaining to retirement and finances. Value of her apartment room and board and necessities, this is probably a contention for everyone things are going up. My mother won't have a problem with her stay there, but I can see how others can be charged out of their comfort and have to move. It's a horrible thing for that generation that did so much more than the current in previous that they can't remain in a lifestyle in their old age that they're used to.

The staff is very caring. My mother lives in memory care, and the staff there is wonderful. They take excellent care of my mother. I live out of state and when I come to visit with my daughter who has worked in assisted-living nursing homes in NJ it cannot compare. My mother lives at the Lacey location and they are wonderful. The place is very clean. I am very pleased all around. Maybe more activities away from the facility more bus rides I guess. I'm not sure in memory care if they ask them to do any painting sessions or knitting sessions or even making clay pottery. As far as food goes, I come from New Jersey New York so I'm kind of spoiled lol maybe more Italian food.

I think they are currently understaffed and administratively overwhelmed a bit. Please don't take this wrong, but I think they are trying to cut costs by hiring recent immigrants that sometimes can't speak clear English, which can be hard for the residents. They are polite and mean well. Like I said I don't think they have a big enough staff right now.

I liked that they had scheduled activities. I like the open lobby with places for the residents to sit and visit. I like the option of living in a cottage.

The food is worse that high school cafeteria food, it us under cooked. I would recommend this community to other families with the food being their #1 improvement. That is the biggest complaint I hear and not just from my loved one.

I feel my dads experience there was pretty good. The facility was generally clean & everyone was friendly. It was frustrating tho because my dad would frequently be wearing clothes that weren't his. We labeled most things. But laundry should be done separately to keep this from happening. Also, when they got a whole new management staff later last year, I had no idea the everyone had left. That was a bit worrisome. Then almost immediately they raised the price of my dads care by $[removed] saying he needed additional care. Which there's no way they could really know since they had just took over. Lastly, I got a notice in February 2025 saying in April- which is now- they were going to be raising the entire cost of everyone's care by $[removed]. So in less that a year, my dads overall cost would of gone up $[removed]. He got a small social security raise in January & i know costs go up, but thats crazy. The residents there all pay out of pocket. It's still probably one of the less expensive facilities though.

With the meals and dining, there is to much red meat. At Bonaventure in Medford, Oregon, I especially like the friendliness and sweet nature of the staff, and the beautiful interior surroundings.
