Benchmark Senior Living

The people are very kind to my mother and myself which I very much appreciate. They are accommodating. There was a bit of a hitch with sending my paperwork to the insurance company because it said respite care and not adult care and when there was a change in staffing because the business person left I had to make a few extra calls but that doesn't seem to be the normal day today happenings. Even though I still am in the process of fixing this problem.

My husband is happy there. They are going above and beyond for his care. They do not have all the amenities of other facilities, but the staff is doing the best with what they have and that counts for more than astechics. We are glad we came.

The cna staff on the memory unit are not overly ambitious. The food is inconsistent. For example, last Sunday dinner was a chicken salad sandwich or a crabcake. No salad /chips/ or pasta. Nursing was informed that I needed advanced notice when he would need refills because he gets them from VA and he missed several days of different meds because I wasn't given notice that he needed refills. The activity staff were great. I will add that they did work with us when dad was running out of money.

Overall, I had a good experience at the Atrium. My only concern was the cost. It is a bit more expensive than most other places.

Benchmark was a good facility and catered to advanced level of care. There was a small number of independent residents. The location was beautiful and the facility seemed to be well-maintained.

I do feel like it needs a refresh in their decor. The staff is friendly which is nice. The marketing director is very nice ([name removed] ). The residents seemed well cared for. The price is a little high.

The positive: It has been nice to see the welcoming nature of their community. The negative: It sometimes is hard to get ahold of someone for answers for questions we sometimes have, but my Mom's situation is a little different so I try to not hold it against anyone. They're doing a decent job.

The staff is very nice , although it may not always respond as quickly as one would like. Sometimes especially on weekends they seem to be short of help -- the activities are throughout the day, movies ,word games, travel documentaries, BINGO (very popular), etc.--the food is not as good as it was when I arrived here---it depends on who the cook is.---we are trying as individuals to get some changes made during RESIDENT MEETINGS held about once a month.--The cleanliness is excellent .--I myself have a very nice large room and have not heard any complaints concerning size, etc.---It boils down to the food not always being what I think a Chef should be feeding us. Also some have complained that 20 minutes is too long to wait for assistance--That is my reason for 4 stars".---The residents are very nice and friendly.

They are very caring and friendly staff. The rooms are kept clean. The room size is average & adequate based on my experience. I believe there are plenty of activities in assisted living. I'm not a familiar with the amount of activities in memory care.

The food was excellent. This was my family's first experience with assisted living. We felt that the over all experience was positive . Staff, activities all great . Mom initially participated in most activities and benefited from social contact . We think she would have benefited from earlier placement . Her cognitive decline was rapid and she became combative at times ( evening/ sundown) . Her "friends " tried to help her as did staff but clearly no longer belonged there . The memory care unit at benchmark was not a financial option . I think the only thing I would suggest to others is to understand clearly what each level of care costs and what is included . It added up quickly. If you are sick for a few days and need your meal brought to your room . It's $30/day . We took care of meds and filled pill packs . If you needed assistance because family un available suddenly you pay daily cost for entire month . All or nothing did not seem reasonable . Lastly shared areas , hall, dining etc immaculate. We however found ourselves cleaning up her room , dusting furniture and under bed . She was in a 2 bed room and bathroom was fairly clean . I think family of a more able loved may have had a better experience . Most of the clients seemed happy and quite content .I would suggest more transparency in what is NOT included in each level of care costs.

The nurses and most of the aides are great, and the food is well liked. The location is very convenient since it is close to home. One resident is able to live independently, while another requires a higher level of care, and both seem to have their needs met. The residents do not participate in activities, but overall the experience has been positive.

The nursing staff is very good. Not surprisingly, the daily care staff (not sure what term they use) is uneven: sometimes they're terrific and sometimes they are quite underwhelming. I'm sensitive to how hard that job is and how hard it is to find and retain people to do that difficult job of caring for people with dementia.

Mom went to Memory Care and the unit was nice. Unfortunately Mom wasn't healthy enough to do much but they definitely tried to get her involved. We had a few hiccups with moving her in and billing. Location is great

They pay attention to residents needs, always involve in social activities. Mom is very happy! I would recommend.

the staff are extremely caring and just great with the residents. this is a caring no training brings to the job.

We had some problems with laundry getting done. The food is good. I've had some snacks up there, it was yummy. The staff is all very nice. A lot of them, English is their second language, so its a bit tough to talk with them sometimes.

Nice place, friendly people. This facility is an Assisted Care facility. I prefer a Independent living in which you can transfer to Assisted Living at the appropriate time.

The food is good. The room is nice, but cleaning the floors and room took a while to get on schedule. The care is very good. Communication on specific procedures (i.e., transportation, doctor’s visits, etc.) could be better. Overall, a good place for our mom.

The only issue is the lack of visitor parking at the harbor building. I would recommend the village at East Farms.

Other than food menus everything gets a 5. Especially the memory care. They were good but memory care was outstanding.
