Not Recommended, horrific experience

Very very disappointed. They did a wonderful sales pitch, but did not follow through with what they said they were going to do. We moved my 94 year old mother into a very large and nice unit [date removed] and out by [date removed]. Huge extra expenses occurred and my list goes on and on. I would never recommend Atria Covell Gardens.

Atria Hometown

Don't recommend it. Management is a joke. Run by maintenance guy. Family makes up employees. It isn't an independent living facility more like assisted living. Woman responsible for different things to do like Bingo , card making, painting etc has no clue what she is doing. No imagination at all. People were bored. They had movies but were not ones older people would watch so no one ever went. Extra activities are for kids and very few people attend. Building is kept clean, maids that work there are honest and very good at their job. Maintenance is a joke. Took me 4 months to get dishwasher fixed. Did not have hot water for 5 weeks . Hot water heater broke. Kept telling me they couldn't find one. Bus service is like pulling teeth. Drivers are the ones who make decision if they take you to Dr or store or whatever. And majority of time tell you they are too busy . I moved out in January. Apt flooded and there wasn't another apt . Told me I would have to stay in that one. My rent had gone up 20 % also. Months of Jan and Feb 31 apartments were vacated because of increase of rent. Any were from [removed] month increase. Outside are not locked because doors are not put in correctly. New chef hired but food was a problem always. They would run of food every day out every day and would substitute with sandwiches. A funny thing , not serious but people were furious at mgmt. Owner or most likely vice President person came to check out building. Made everyone who had anything outside of door like wreaths, small tables etc move them out of hall. Nothing allowed outside of apt. Lol. People were livid.

Terrible Experience

I had a terrible experience. They were friendly getting me into the facility but not when it came down to talking about charges after long term care insurance rejected my claim. Without long term care insurance, Atria was unaffordable for me, yet they were automatically charging my card for charges that I could not verify after they sent me paperwork I requested to clarify the bill. They refused to refund me. So I had to dispute the charges through my credit card company, and that dispute was successful.

Run! They can improve by getting, management that actually cares and knows the whereabouts of the residents. Also, some new paint and new carpeting, especially in the resident rooms and better food and no water down juices. I would not recommend this place to other people. It was a horrible experience for my loved ones.

Review for Atria at Foster Square

When we visited it looked wonderful and the person we talked to her mother had dementia and thought it would be good. So in the beginning it was good. When my loved one got Covid from being there they basically kicked her out. They made us pick her up since they couldn't care for her. And then trying to see how she could return they didn't return calls. So they are very inadequate for care of memory care patients. Might be fine for assisted living. I just would never recommend it for memory care.

Unsafe!

Staffing ratios are unsafe. New management fired the great staff they had and those that weren’t fired, left. They have zero activities, unless you call watching exercise tapes or Catholic Mass on tv an activity. Food is horrible and even worse since they fired the kitchen manager. Families are pulling their loved ones out of this place at an alarming rate. Now they are begging their residents for referrals. Instead of paying attention to patient care, they remodeled the place to look nice but that’s the only positive thing about this place. This used to be a great place but since Holiday took it over, it has gone downhill fast! They increased their rents drastically but the food quality has gone down and they do not have any staffing. If you tour this place, ask what their census is now vs a year ago and take a look around, do you see any engaging activities, any staff around anywhere? Run from this place!

Not worth the hype

They were very friendly in the beginning because they wanted our money. Over time they were not friendly. They seemed very stuck up and made comments about my dad being "white trash", that my sister heard the receptionist say. After the year they bumped up his rate so significantly(from $[removed]k to $[removed]k) and did not have a good reason for it. To us it seemed like they wanted us out. When we told them we were leaving the attitude changed drastically from everyone involved. Really showed a tacky way of doing business. Facilities are very nice and well kept up to date. If you're looking for a large facility with many residents it's a good place. Reminds me of a nice hotel. A lot of rooms for different things (movies, library, etc)

She escaped from the locked dementia care unit and walked 3 miles home and the staff were extremely unapologetic about it and even lied about it. She fell 2 times the day prior to her somewhat sudden death, and while cleaning out her apartment, we found notes on napkins in her handwriting begging for food.

Dodged a bullet

I was going to move Dad there but glad I learned about their religious discrimination before I did it. Their approach to LIE to Dad tricking him into going against his religious beliefs left a bad taste. I feel like we dodged a bullet there. The original sales rep on site was awesome. I was signing contracts when they found out Dad doesn't believe in vaccinations and I do not either. [name removed] is the one that broke the news wasting our time. She lied stating that it was state law and Dad couldn't get into a facility without Covid vax at a minimum. Then she wanted to trick him by convincing him it was something else he would agree to. With that recommendation to trick the patient, huge red flags at the 11th hour.

Great for Independent Living

My loved one is no longer at this community. They don't monitor the residents like they should. The food was okay. They need to improve on administration , communication, and returning phone calls. They don't seem to be able to deliver, what they promise. It's a great place if the residents need independent care but if they need other services, it's not the best. It is very clean. A Place for Mom, was wonderful from the beginning.

They insisted on a $5,000 retainer fee for my loved one. They interviewed him and found him not to be a good fit. They have yet to return that money to me. They seemed personable and the facility looked clean, but I definitely think others should know about this before going there.

Stay away if you love your parent(s)

They're good at pretending, they are a good place & taking your money. They can improve in every area. Atria was awful. They over sell & under deliver. The staff is barely trained & have zero compassion. They had the gall to tell my loved one that they"wasn't the only one who needed help" & made them feel bad to ask. They left dishes in the sink & trash cans overflowing to the floor. I was the one who cleaned for my loved one at [price removed] a month. The air conditioner unit broke & flooded the carpet in their apartment & soaked the recycling chair, electric blanket and socks. They left my loved one in wet socks & threw the wet blanket in a bag & left. I had to go take care of my loved one (at 10p after working all day) because they called me in tears telling me they said, to not bother them. They left my [age removed] loved one in a wet chair & soaked socks which could have caused infection on their feet had I not been there. They didn't bother to put any towels to dry the carpet or use a machine the next day to remove the water.

Lack of Care Services

It's a clean, new and nice looking community. The sizes of the rooms is decent. My loved one has been there a short period of time. The lack of care is terrible. They are very unorganized. There is always a change in leadership. They don't always follow-up with issues/complaints.

Champagne salesmanship with a Budweiser experience. Overall, I feel completely duped by the advertising and the show of this new senior facility. Particularly the memory care... Which consistently is Left out, behind and least thought of not to mention understaffed. Well the facility itself is clean, the care given to residents is not clean. Showers are rare and while my loved one is going through an infection has barely been washed every third day. When it comes to bandages or injuries, it is next to Impossible to get any help. Even applying Neosporin requires doctor's orders and when done is better to have your own family come in and apply the medication. Staff are friendly and appear willing to help. There's an appealing calendar of activities, however from the beginning very little if any was ever followed - particularly exercise and stretching. The excuse was that it's simply the calendar that headquarters puts out but their staff aren't trained to conduct the activities or that people aren't interested in doing them. There used to be an activity coordinator for memory care but that person left after the first few weeks and since then very little gets done. Particularly for the memory care patients this is very difficult as they are simply moved to meals and then rushed back to the rooms to sit by themselves. The whole appeal of Coterie was that people would have something to do throughout the day and a community to live with but this is absolutely not the case or the interest of the leadership or staff that are there. The facility bills itself as a changing menu that is exquisite and caters to the individual needs. However it simply is the same thing every day and the same order every day. The money has not changed once since May. As mentioned above. There were activities listed, however, they rarely were done. When they did have an activity coordinator, she did try to bring in flowers for arranging and tried to take the residents on driving tours of the city. Yet this is all stopped for months since the facility no longer has an activity coordinator and does not appear interested in hiring one. If my loved one was capable of living in my home, I would far rather spend the money to have a live-in nurse. There is just no effort to provide individualized care at this facility. I would not recommend this facility to anybody who was not comfortably mobile and does not have family in the near area that can watch after them.

Horrible, unethical... Be aware!

If I could give negative stars I would. My father was in memory care at this facility for two years before we had to move him. I made so many complaints to both the facility and to DSS, Ombudsman. Please do your due diligence and speak with family members of residents and caretakers before making any decisions about being in this community. Here is a list of issues our family had with Atria: Rate increases in excess of 12% each year! Understaffed in memory care (residents left alone wandering into the kitchen getting themselves hot coffee...) Miss medications (residents did not receive their medications for a couple of days) Pressure ulcers Bug issues in the room No nurse in the facility for months! Discouraged forming a family council Did not respect my father's vegetarian diet and continually gave him meat. The facility is beautiful but they do not walk the talk in memory care! I can go on and on about how awful this place is... Be aware!!! Lisa Turcillo

Make sure your loved one is independent

I called Atria and I explained my mom’s needs to her in very specific detail. My mom has dementia and has specific needs. I came with my mom to view the facility and met with the director [name removed] and the nurse. I again was specific about my mom’s needs. They accepted my mom. They told me they would have someone to take her to activities. Since my mom has dementia she needs guidance throughout the day. Mom said the staff who dressed her were wonderful. But throughout the day she was basically on her own. I visited often and I never saw any aides around the help the residents at all. This facility is for someone who is independent. Place is lovely and nice activities. [name removed] called and told me my mom had a TBI and not dementia. My mom is the sweetest person. [name removed] was rude to my mom and has zero knowledge about of dementia. Please beware if your parent has any form of dementia this is not the place for them!!! My mom is now in an amazing place but owned by a family!

Atria Lafayette Hill review

The Atria Lafayette community is nice and beautiful but what it comes down to is the quality of care and workers. The turnover rate is alarming, they are having trouble keeping permanent staff so they go to these outside agencies but unfortunately those workers are not highly trained, there isn't much consistency or organization.
