There wasn't much activities. They could really do with my dad due to his dementia, but I felt like they didn't really do anything. I think they did a better job interacting with him when he was at the rehab facility in Rockville center. The food was what it was. I never really tasted it. I'm sure it was fine and the room was nice. It was a good size. How everything he needed. I had a few instances where I felt that they can care less what happens to him. That caused me a lot of concern he fell and nobody could tell me how it happened or why it happened when I finally got a hold of the head nurse. She didn't know. All she did is speculate when I asked her if she can find out for me and get back to me she never called back. Towards the end, my dad had lost a lot of weight again. I had to seek her out for his care, and apparently she had a conversation with me so she said prior which we never had. I don't think I would ever recommend that place.

He fell and they don't do a 2 person lift up. What kind of personal care or assisted can't assist a person? They're in memory care. Very disappointed because I did a lot of time researching. Activities and food were good. No one helps anyone with eating if they leave the food and walk away don't seem to be encouraged back to the meal.

I was very clear with Atria that my mother would need to transition to hospice care at some point. I was assured that Atria could accommodate this. I would not have moved my mother there otherwise. At the point she transitioned to hospice care following a hospital visit, Atria would not take her back without a 24 hour a day aide at $[fee removed] per hour. I was forced to find other accommodations for my mother in a short period of time. The staff that provided direct care to my mother in the time she was there were very kind and compassionate.

I felt like most of the staff was not educated enough to care for memory care patients. Maybe they were understaffed . I found feces in my mom's laundry , she smelled quite a bit, not enough time encouraging her to do things, or even spend quality time with her. Missing clothes, and bedding, all the time. Annoyed when we would ask for simple things( glass of water). Her room smelled, floors sticky. This is NOT how I wanted my mother to spend the last months of her life. I will never get over the guilt of placing her there. [name removed] was the only person there who showed an ounce of compassion. And we are still getting a bill for $[removed]. I have called 2 times to find out what this charge is for. Still waiting for the explanation, and they keep sending the bill. Please do not recommend this place to anyone else.

Let me start by stating that I do not have a public complainer personality and this is all based on my interpretation/opinion of the facts. My father was in memory care: The brochure I received advertised 24/7support from staff with extensive dementia training. From my experience, such was not accurate. Instead, management, unilaterally elected to immediately force very expensive 24/7 third-party care on my father with extremely little notice and without a caring effort to work with us find to locate an alternate facility. The immediate cost increase essentially added $[removed]k to our rent. I can only surmise Atria management knew such rent increase would force us to relocate. Extremely unethical and unprofessional - certainly not compassionate. I also question why there were many emergency vehicle (ambulance/fire truck) visits almost daily to the facility. At the memory care facility to which my father re-located, we never saw one emergency response vehicle. Something is wrong...

We have unfortunately had to make the tough decision to move Mom out of Atria Memory Care. We have had multiple conversations with the leadership at Atria, to discuss our concerns about the staffing level in Memory Care. Per Atria, they are compliant with state law. In [date removed], mom fell and broke her hip. "Resident had unwitnessed fall in the dining room. She fell under the table". So, I contracted with a private caregiver to help with mom's needs, due to the "unwitnessed" fall. In [date removed], she fell again, resulting in a head injury that required 5 staples. "Resident had an unwitnessed fall while in the supervision of private caregiver contracted by RP." RP: responsible person After breakfast, our private caregiver left my mom in a chair in the main living area. Mom fell, the caregiver came back, found mom on the floor - picked her up, put her back in her wheelchair and took her back to her room. No Atria staff witnessed any of this. This confirmed our concerns.

This facility does not offer true hospice care. Staff were NOT forthcoming for people coming in about this. They really want you to move your loved one out. The staff was not always friendly or willing to engage with family members. I always had the sense there was info we were not being told. They do not staff well for higher levels of care - but tell the family to hire their own support.

Better attitudes among the staff, admin staff rarely returns phone calls, more variety in activities with assisted living....they play Bingo every day!!! They told me there would be outings but none so far. When the activities director is out or off on some days, there is rarely anyone to take over. My father isn't happy there and wants me to look at other places. The things we were told while touring and visiting several time is a rosier picture than how it really is....assisted living is the stepchild of the facility. Independent living is by far their main concern!

Upgrade the apartments. They have never been upgraded, but they significantly raise the rents. When I was there, the food was always cold even in the dining room. The vegetables were always cold and not cooked well, either not cooked enough or cooked too much. The staff were cold and could actually be mean if they didn't like you - they were always looking for a reason to tell you what you did wrong. Maintenance never finished a project/repair in my apartment. My housekeeper was great, but they wanted her clean my apartment in 15 minutes which was so unrealistic. I did love most of the residents!

Within a week of moving into her apartment at Atria Mom had water in her apartment. Overtime the apartment got wet-carpet and walls. Her bedding was slightly damp and dissolvable pills were dissolving in their original containers. After several months of complaining (and showing them her dissolving pills) she was moved. I was informed at 8 pm on a Friday evening she would be moved to another apartment but she had to be moved by noon the next day. Atria did have two maintenance men move the furniture and big stuff, but I literally moved everything else in about 3 hours. I learned of a new facility about that time, so I started looking. Overall the staff was very nice and helpful during Mom's time there. She did complain that the food was very salty. I was just very frustrated they could not solve the water issue. Turned out there was a crack in the mortar in the exterior wall by the foundation of mom's apartment. Their maintenance man, [name removed], (who passed suddenly a few months ago) was wonderful! He kept mom calm and helps clean up A LOT!

The facility and it's Administrative staff was great at the beginning, while my mom was fine and doing what she was expected to do. But the people who lived there were very cliquish and non inclusive to new comers. Part of her indoctrination from the staff was to help her get introduced and included in the different clubs and activities. That lasted about a week. It was so disappointing to me as she wanted to stay with me, but I was no longer able to do everything and wanted her to be somewhere with friends and that was safe and comfortable to her since she was starting to decline in health. I feel it was a huge mistake but one I was praying would get better as I just wanted her happy and safe. The staff seemed to care. There were some very nice people. But the longer she was there the more it appeared that a lot of services I paid extra for were not being done. They were not cleaning her room the way it should be and that was an extra [price removed]. a month. The did not shower here 3 times a week. They kept telling me she denied these things and they couldn't force her. So I said then don't charge me and I will do it. She said she did not tell them no. Some of her items started to be missing. When I mentioned it, they would usually "be found". When it was determined she had dementia I moved her to the intensive care area, basically because I felt like there were not a lot of better alternatives. Everything got worse. She was escaping the facility. I was having to actually pay for people to come watch her that were not employees of Atria! To the tune of $[removed] an hour! And then these people called me constantly wanting me to come and calm her down. The very reason I had her there was I was having my own health issues with MS and could not take care of her myself. It just got continually worse! I was in and out of the hospital and dealing with this and worrying constantly. She was falling. So I had started actively looking for another place when hurricane Hilary came here. It flooded part of her room. I was not informed. I could not get there due to the roads. When I did get there all her furniture was moved to the center of her room and huge fans were running! I told them she needed a different room! They said the would do their best. That night she fell! Was sent to the hospital. A broken femur. She did not recover and passed in the hospital. Did anyone reach out to me...no!!! So here we are, my mom gone in a terrible way and my life ridden with sadness and guilt over not being able to care for her myself. There were good well meaning employees there, but there were also ones that took great advantage of her dementia. And I feel the Admin and Atria itself is truly to blame. I made them aware of the theft, the non bathing, clothes missing. It was never a peaceful experience for her or myself while she was there.

I was so excited when I learned my father was going to be placed here. Now I am crying as I write this. Although we are paying for services I haven’t seen one person check on him. It’s been three hours. The place is a ghost town after 5pm. When I went to ask for help, the care giver was on her cell phone and didn’t acknowledge me. She then stated she’s the only one on the floor and it’s not even her floor. It breaks my heart to think that if my father falls (and he has) that he’s on the floor until someone finds him. Pretty much a staff member confirmed that’s the case. Where is the dignity in that? Where is the service for the money we’re paying? Where’s the care? I thought this place would be different, but I see that it’s not. At least not for the Memory Care Floor.

It appeared to be a good place for Mom but the facility dropped the ball. After a few good months it took them 3 days to figure out she hadn’t been to the dining room for meals. She was sent to the hospital where she developed a blood clot and gangrene and passed away. A few days after sending her to the hospital we were told she needed a higher level of care and the cost would be higher. Added fees were exorbitant, $[removed] per month to administer an eye drop and one pill when she was taking them by herself prior to moving to the facility
