My parent is only there a couple of weeks and I'm already looking for a new place for them to live. The majority of the staff are miserable. They never smile and are not nice to the residents. It's amazing how accommodating they were when I signed my parent up. I want to cry every time I leave my loved one. Two of the residents had to wait an hour for their food because they ran out of the food that was listed on evenings menu. It doesn't matter how much you pay, people should not be treated like this.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this facility. My parents moved to Atria Assisted Living almost 3 years ago. After the passing of his wife, my father moved to the memory care area of Atria where he has been for over a year (he is 81). The facility has a good clean appearance, but there is neglect of the residents. Myself and 2 other family members are at Atria 2-3 times per week. There are no activities for those in memory care. They can watch TV in the living room or go to their own room. The director indicated that the budget for activities was $80 per month for 15 people...although it's not being used. It's astonishing given that my father's monthly bill is over $7500.00. Aside from the lack of physical or mental stimulation, I'm very concerned from a medical perspective. One of the residents fell and suffered with 4 broken ribs It was days before he was seen by a medical professional. My father had a problem with his back and ibuprofen was prescribed, but even after 4 days, he was not given the pain relief. No follow through by the staff nor did they contact the family about the situation, they let him suffer in a lot of pain. We are moving dad to another facility at the end of the month. The new facility has the same cost, but more stimulation for the residents. My father will be greatly missed by the Atria because he's been an easy resident. He's compliant and always pays. I'm so sad to see the decline of residents at Atria. Most residents in memory care are women and they love when my family members come visit because they are bored on a daily basis. The director makes a lot of excuses about the lack of activity...same excuses year over year. I seldom write reviews, but I'm worried about aging seniors being placed at this facility. The scope of the problems cannot be address in this small review platform. I strongly caution family members to avoid making a placement decision based on the cleanliness of a place. Talk to family members who visit on a regular basis as their insight will be informative.

I called to get info on rates and availability, and [name removed] was rude, muttering under his breath. He actually hung up on me after a couple painful minutes trying to find out what their enhanced care wing is about. When I asked if they have studios, he annoyingly muttered "really?" as if it was a stupid and ridiculous question. He was totally vague, and not willing to even let me know what types of apartments they have. If that is the person they hired as the first point of contact with the company, I would not even dream of placing my family there! The guy was toxic!

Had to move my parent out. This facility is unclean, unsafe and staffed by individuals, from rental agents, to managers to nurses to UNSKILLED nursing assistants, who could not care less about the residents. It is completely profit-motivated. Residents who are in need of physical assistance sit in their rooms and in hallways endlessly without help. The lack of humanity and morality of the functioning of this facility is absurd. I strongly advise against moving loved ones to Atria, Barrington.

I would not recommend Atria Kew Gardens for your loved one or loved ones. I live at Atria Kew Gardens and call 311 for police non-emergencies 6 times or more a week. The police have taken corrective action, but the executive director does nothing. Doesn't she know that seniors have to go to sleep at night? Do yourselves a favor. Find a better place.

DO NOT LET YOUR LOVED ON LIVE HERE!!! Atria charged my father- in violation of the contract- the next month AFTER he died. Further, they charged him for services they did not deliver for the month of July after he died. As a result of their unjust taking of funds, his account is currently overdrawn. Even though they admit they owe us a refund, they have done NOTHING!!!!

The Atria West 86 Senior Residence is located at 333 West 86th Street, NYC. AVOID THIS PLACE!!! It is an overpriced and overcrowded dump. Don't be fooled by the pretty lobby. You will be charged $10000. to $15000. for a small apartment plus an additional one month fee when you move in. The building is an old converted hotel which is not adequate to handle the amount of senior residents living there. The three tiny elevators are too small for all the people living there. A 30 minute wait for the elevator is normal and my record is 50 minutes. I'm surprised the fire department hasn't closed this place down for safety reasons. The food served in the basement dining room is frozen and heated. No cooking is done on the premises. There are frequent pipe breaks and floods throughout the building and inside the resident's rooms. Also, there is a severe water bug and roach infestation. The staff members are rude to the residents and are annoyed when you request something. Most of the staff turns over constantly due to very low pay. The front desk lady is usually busy playing video games and people entering or exiting the building go unchallenged. I suggest that you search other assisted living facilities in Manhattan and avoid the Atria.

Not a good place for someone who has Alzheimer's. They are not trained to care for someone with Alzheimer's. No assisted living facilitiy is, even though they have a memory care unit. My aunt was kicked out after 9 days because they were unable to get her to take her medication or to get dressed. They sent her for a psych evaluation and now she is in lockdown in a psych ward getting medicated. It is hard or impossible to find any place that will take someone with Alzheimer's who is in the combative stage. They don't want to take the time to work with her. They would rather put her on drugs. She is so sweet and she will do anything I ask, but I am not there 24 hours a day. The best thing you can do for your loved one is keep them in your home with a caregiver. None of these places really care. They're all about the bottom line. To update my post, not only did they withdraw payment for all of June, even though she was only there nine days when they said that they could take her knowing how she was, they also paid themselves for July. We did not take her out of there, they sent her away. They should refund all of our money for putting us through this. They never should have said they could take her. They have until Monday to return $8,000 or a [Removed]charge will be filed.

My mother was accepted to Atria but the staff were unable and unwilling to care for her. It was necessary to hire private caregivers while she was at this facility. I moved her to another facility within a week. The caregivers were improperly trained and had been at the facility for 2 days -1 month. It appeared that the med aid was there for a longer time but she was unwilling to assist my mother when she needed help. My mother was forced to sit a table in another room during meals. I am a registered nurse and am knowledgeable of the training required to care for memory care patients/Resident's. I cannot recommend this facility.

This review pertains to the marketing person,[Removed]. I called for some basic information (capacity and occupancy) and she was totally rude and refused to tell me their memory care capacity, as if it's some sort of trade secret. Her tone of voice and the things she said were shockingly unprofessional. If their sales person is that rude, how bad are their caregivers!?! When I asked to speak with the administrator, she refused to transfer me. I called multiple communities to ask the same question, and this is the only person who was suspicious of me and unhelpful.

The community has been under a quarantine for close to two weeks, and has been completely mishandled! Many of my meals are served 3-4 hours late, some residents have missed meal delivery completely, due to incompetence. Most times the orders are incomplete, or incorrect, and the menu has been significantly reduced, with very few options. We are very unhappy with how this unpleasant situation has been handled. The community has had serious problems with the dining for years. Meals are delayed and served cold, due to a shortage of staff, with little to no training. Many of us have been in contact with management, but we have witnessed NO change. Rates are very high, but we have reduced services. The problems are not limited to the dining room, but also to other areas of the community. I do not understand why/how this is allowed to continue!!!!!!!

It started out rocky for mom as there was a change in administration just has she moved but she rode it out and with many meetings things improved. There are lots of staffing turn overs and again she is suffering because some key management have left. Mom loves her care givers and most of the med techs are good. Mom has had to wait up to an hour for much needed pain medication, this is not ok. She has had other problems with her medication. She feels the food has gone down in quality and quantity. It seems that they are lacking in management and run the facility short on staff.

This place is an extremely unethical and an unprofessional facility. There are a few good people on staff however the management and the majority of the workers there are terrible! At best they are just negligent. My father moved into atria with a diagnosis of brain cancer. The staff at atria were fully aware of his medical condition and we hired our own amazing nurses and caretakers to care for him. The staff at atria were not only unhelpful but actually rude and incompetent in caring or assisting in caring for my dad. They threatened several times to kick my father out of the facility and also threatened to increase the charge of his care. It's ironic since we hired our own staff to "care" for him. Not only did i have to watch my father deteriorate but also I had to suffer by watching how negligent the staff was in caring for the other residents at the facility. I witnessed the caretakers chatting with each other as the residents were in precarious positions literally bumping into each other at times or being parked at the television for hours on end. The management were so incredibly unempathic and cold. The bottom line is that atria is solely concerned about money and not the care of the residents nor the feelings of the residents family. I think that what ever board is set up to grant certifications of assisted living situations should investigate atria. If your relative lives there go and do a surprise visit.

The food and the dining room management is so bad that I have to say that I would not recommend this place. Although the decor is nice enough and much of the staff is very nice, mealtimes are a nightmare, especially dinner. The food is so bad that my mother often eats hot dogs for dinner because everything else on the menu is covered in some kind of heavy sauce or is just poorly prepared. Often meals are served cold, the bread is stale ant the servers can't get the orders right. When your paying over $7000 a month there is no excuse for this. Often on weekends some of the staff doesn't show up for work and so they have to do a buffet dinner which the residents don't like since many of them use walkers or wheel chairs. The residents have complained to management but nothing changes. Very frustrating!!

My aunt has been living there for about five years. Sure we were excited at first because it was a fresh start for her and everything about the place was so beautiful. But don't be fooled by how the places looks, what goes on behind closed doors is what's utterly despicable. The care these residents pay for each month to live here is disgraceful because of what they get in return. Well for one, the dining room has terrible service. You have a bunch of teenagers working there that don't know their [removed]. They are lazy and have attitude problems. You ask them for a glass of water and it takes forever to get it. I was there a couple years back with my aunt eating lunch and this poor gentlemen ( a resident ) fell and he was on the floor I kid you not for about a good five minutes before any help attended to him. Then you see all the "high up " people that work in Atria just come walking in not even panicking. Like they didn't give two craps that he was on the floor. My aunt is no spring chicken, she obviously needs more care then most residents here. She's in dirty clothes when I see her and hasn't had a shower in god knows how long. I mean what the heck are these nurses doing ?? Then the lady that works up front , Betty I believe her name is. I come in the other night to visit and there she is stratching off a lotto ticket paying no mind to me at all. I was waiting for a pen to sign in because for some reason there never is one. I just walked away without even signing in. Obviously her lotto ticket was more important. Sure this place is absolutely beautiful but the service here is TERRIBLE. I would not reccomend this place. I believe it's about close to $10,000 to live here a month. Go somewhere else with the money and have a piece of mind for your loved one !

THIS PLACE IS THE WORST! They are all about making a profit and the residents are a secondary consideration. Stories of inaccurate medication administration, neglect and employee turnover and frustration are rampant. And the costs are exorbitant when compared to other options in the area. Very, very dissatisfied with Draper Place. This place is just big business designed to make big dollars. My mother has been there since April. On January 1 they raised her rent $399.00. She is now expected to pay 7404.00/month. Tried to have a rational discussion with the financial person, but she would only spout their policy of rent increases every Jan 1. Left a message for the director to call me, but he never did. Have had some medical issues over the last several months, and the nurse on staff doesn't return phone calls. Mom can't even get a Tylenol for a toothache because they don't issue as needed meds. "You can put the doses in her monthly cassettes" they say. But I don't want her getting Tylenol all the time, just when she needs it. So they expect a family member to drive there every time she needs a Tylenol. (50 minute drive each way) The hourly staff are very friendly. The physical environment is beautiful. The administration, on the other hand, is very defensive and unapproachable. I do NOT think that she is better cared for here than she was at her prior residence. Bottom line: If you want to pay through the nose for beauty, then this is the place to be. If you want your loved one cared for and loved, look elsewhere.

Our experience at Eskaton rehab on Fair Oaks Blvd was two fold. The caregivers at all levels were kind and compassionate except one. They treated my father with respect and dignity even when he was fiesty. However, they kept forgetting to set the bed alarm, missed several bath times and didn't remember to walk him once PT was over. These issues were huge in my eyes.

If you are are on a tight budget with little or no increase in your future income, stay away from Atria. This "for profit" company is luring you in at a low rate only to raise it significantly the very next year. They have increased their rates 18% over the past 2 years. The industry norm in the Sacramento area is 2.5-4% a year. The management and staff turnover in the past 18 months is "dizzying" and the dining room/kitchen has yet to "stabilize" due to staffing issues also.
