A couple great things about his place but that's where it abruptly ends. The residents here are lovely and the grounds are beautiful! However the management and staff leave MUCH to be desired. When signing contracts with them make sure you take away the paper work and read through every line and examine the phrasing. Later you won't be able to prove anything they said to you, only what you signed. They have lots of stipulations they they gloss over and hope you don't pay too much attention to. The most egregious one being an upfront, NON-REFUNDABLE "facility fee" at the time of at least $3,600. They say it is for programs and maintenance of the community, however if that is true it would be more fitting that that be factored into the rent or added as a monthly fee. Instead the fee is required upfront and no matter how long you stay it will not be returned to you. Of course Atria is hoping you pass away or move as quickly as possible to pocket as much cash as possible. My mother in law stayed at Atria for 4 months and had to leave due to declining health. She left her apartment in excellent condition. When we asked about what they had referred to as a deposit when signing rental paperwork now the "deposit" had suddenly turned into a "facility fee" and would not be returned. SO SHADY! My mother in law did not use $750 a month of programs or community resources!! When we pushed a little asking why this was a upfront fee and not a more fair monthly fee we were given a "you're the ones who signed the contract" canned response. Shame on our family for not being more critical of the paperwork we signed, but honestly shame on Atria for taking advantage of senior citizens on a fixed income and being so underhanded and cold about it. Oh, and the food is terrible. Overall definitely would not recommend Atria to anyone I care about.

Stay Far Away if you love you family

If you care about your loved ones I suggest you NEVER go to Atria Senior Living in Plainview. This review has been a long time coming. My mother who was my best friend was 79yrs old and in January 2018 was playing tennis 6 days a week and doing water aerobics the same days in March she had a stroke but was recovering but mentally fine….6 years prior she was diagnosed with breast cancer and the very light chemo she was on was keeping it at bay… unfortunately stayed at Atriahell from Approx. Aug 2018-Nov 2018. I don’t even know where to start…. I would have to call every day to make sure my mother got her food when she wasn’t feeling well they bring the food to their rooms there was at least 4-7 times my mom was never given her meals, I would have to call and order her food then call her to make sure she received it…I called the desk more then once and said I wasn’t able to reach my mom Marie’s reply was “we have a lot of people here if I see her I’ll tell her” They are supposed to have someone go make sure she is ok. The WORST was the wellness center which is where everyone has to go for every issue. The Doctor at the time said my mother has a fungus under one of her breasts also at that time she had a wound from radiation she received. The Dr. suggested we bring in a nurse from TLC nursing who called me and said the lumps were not a fungus. So the head Nurse at the time “[name removed]” I emailed him 3-4 times mentioning what the nurse said and to this day never heard a response regarding him asking the Dr. anything about the wound under her breast. My mom also had a wound under a flap of skin by her stomach that was supposed to be cared for by Atria’s employees. I can tell you this when my mother lived with me the wound was dry and has no issue. At Atria when they gave her a shower (that you pay extra for) they some reason have an issue cleaning that area. I took her to a dermatologist where the wound was removed so I went to the wellness center and asked [name removed] (The rudest woman I’ve ever met) and asked if she got the fax regarding the care of the wound she asked me what it said and all it was that Vaseline was to be put on it she grunted and walked away I said how rude she was and she replied she was busy however she was the one who asked me what the fax stated and just letting you know this wasn’t my 1st experience having a conversation with her. Our family decided to hire our own caregiver to make sure she has food, her would was cared for etc. One day I decided since [name removed] wasn’t responding to my emails to wait for the Doctor. [Name removed] (part of the wellness center) said leave your # and we shall call you when he arrives. I was there almost 5 hours. So I finally went down for the 3rd time and the woman said “oh hurry he is about to leave” So [name removed] couldn’t even have the courtesy to call my phone # to tell me he was there. Those “Fungus lumps” was her cancer spreading and if the “wellness center” did their job I could have brought my mother to her oncologist. I totally feel like Atria contributed to my mother’s demise…. Oh another thing prior to my mom leaving I met with the Asst. Director who they brought in to “revamp” the place a little too late IMO in the meeting I mentioned how my mom didn’t want a shower at 7am because that was her only choice She said would you like me to have it changed to a better time I said I’ve asked that to everyone at the wellness center since she arrived and they said that was when they gave showers. For the price you pay and with us paying for an extra person which they don’t allow you to even do anymore. PS When I mentioned how rude [name removed] was numerous times no one ever disagreed seems likes she is very consistent, They had 2 amazing people there [name removed] who sadly left and I think her name is [name removed] who was a receptionist she is blonde. As for the wellness center I’d be shocked if they Kept [name removed] who was horrible. I hope you care enough about your family member to stay clear of Atria in Plainview as this was my horrific experience. PS That month approx 7 residents left the faclity

Moldy Food, Financial Rip Off

We’re moving my Mother out as soon as possible. We had a family meeting with Atria and agreed to a #2 level of care. Six days later [name removed], the new manager, had my 95 year old Mother sign off on a #4 level of care. They never called the family. They said because we didn’t give them the power of attorney paperwork, they had the right to have her sign. She’s 95 and they knew she didn’t have the mental capacity to make that decision. No call to us! We’re now stuck paying almost a $8,000 bill. They aren’t about care, it’s all about revenue. The food is terrible. They served my Mother moldy bread. Often the food wasn’t to temperature. That just opens the door for a bad case of diarrhea. If you have a family member there- get them out!!

Atria Is So So Sorry! - Family/Friend

NOPE! Not Atria.

Find another place. That's my advice, and that was also Atria's last word. Find another place. But of course, you won't hear it during the sales pitch, which is filled with promises, assurances, and cordial commitments. Despite our compliance with every procedure and term of our contract, Atria Santa Clarita's management chose to renege on its promises and commitments, causing extreme stress and degradation of the already fragile condition of our loved one who lived there--until they told her she could no longer live there. To compound its duplicity and apparent attempts to take advantage of elderly customers, and consistent with its sketchy communication processes, Atria did not even follow through on its own refund policies until prodded to do so.

Inadequate care and Predatory business

My grandfather's room seemed nice enough, but when we went to move in some of his belongings a patient was in there unattended and we had to alert the staff. That initial interaction gave us some concern about the quality of care they provided, but we persisted. This was a mistake. They could not provide adequate care for my grandfather with Alzheimer's. After 3 days of telling us, he was adjusting well they sent him in an ambulance to a hospital without notifying any family members. When they did notify us that he was sent to a hospital, they sent us to the wrong one. While we were trying to locate his whereabouts and contacting Atria they seemed unconcerned and disinterested in helping us. I hope no family has to go through the experience we went through dealing with this company. My recommendation is to look elsewhere for assisted living services.

Horrible food generates their profit margin

The hallmark of socialization has always been centered around the meal with friends and/or family. This is where Atria at Sierra Point, Scottsdale fails quite miserably. In spite of going through several new chefs, any center city public school from the ‘60s served a more palatable meal. Institutions like this should not realize their profit margin’s at the expense of the nutrition of our senior relatives. If you want a nice physical plant with friendly smile’s, and plan on cooking your own meals, this place is fine. If your parent likes to eat, however, look elsewhere. At this point, one must assume that they just refuse to fix the problem. [Name removed]., MD

Don't send your parents here

My father was a resident of Atria Tamalpais Creek where $13,000 in cash was stolen from his apartment. He had been admitted to the hospital following a heart attack, and during his hospital stay, he asked me to retrieve some of his belongings for safekeeping, including his safe box, which had contained an envelope with the cash (meant for use in a dire emergency), for over a decade, When I arrived to pick up the items a few days after his hospital admission, I found that the envelope of cash was gone and the safe box open. I immediately filed a police report, and reported the loss to the director, who only seemed to care about being present during the police investigation, and not about the lost money. My father died very unexpectedly the following week, after complications from open heart surgery, and the money was never recovered. Atria has not taken any responsibility for the theft, and did not even conduct an internal investigation into the matter, or offer as much as an apology. They claim that the police report was inconclusive because it couldn't pinpoint specifically who stole the money, as over twenty of their staff members had used key fobs to get into his apartment. The fact remains that the money was stolen from Atria, when they should have been ensuring the safekeeping of my father's possessions. I had previously seen the cash myself, when my father moved in months before, and he asked me specifically to pick it up for him while he was in the hospital. He had no issues with memory loss, and knew that the cash had been there. Atria's response has been pathetic, and only concerned with their own back, rather than with the theft of $13,000 from the home of an elderly widower in their care. I am disgusted by their lack of concern, or willingness to take responsibility for this disgraceful situation. If this highly unfortunate event had not occurred, I still would have given Atria a 1 star review for their lack of humanity, and lack of any truly engaging activities for their residents. At the time of his death, my father was on a waitlist to move to another nearby senior community. For an 89 year old man who had recently lost his wife, moving is not something to be taken lightly, so it was only because he was so miserable at Atria that he was willing to subject himself to another move after only 5 months there. Despite seeing him day in and day out, the receptionist never even knew my father's name. My father was a highly active and engaged man until the final days of his life, but the activities at Atria seemed geared for people who had already given up on life, rather than still living it to the fullest. It basically feels like a place where people are waiting to die, rather than still enjoying life. It has token activities like chair exercise, but none that seem planned with thought and care for active seniors. When my father's money was stolen, I discovered through the California Social Services website, [removed that Atria Tamaplais Creek has been investigated 23 times by Social Services, with 11 of those visits in 2018 alone. There were also 4 citations for immediate health, safety or personal rights violations. Additionally, I found that Atria Corporate has, not surprisingly, received a C- grade by the Better Business Bureau, [removed] with 5 complaints filed in the past three years. I wish my father had never moved into Atria Tamalpais Creek, and I wish they cared about the money stolen on their watch. But since I can't change either, all I can do now is hope that others heed my advice: Think twice before sending your loved ones to Atria Tamalpais Creek. It might look safe, but I learned the hard way that it is not.

No Leadership

My mother lived here for 7 years. It was a wonderful, caring beautiful place to live. The management left about a year ago and everything started to fall apart. The outside of the building had to be stripped and it took almost a year of noisy cranes to completely redo it. Then the staff all started leaving. My mother wanted to leave as well, so we gave our 60 day notice to leave Nov. 30. We reserved the moving dock, only to get bumped by two other move outs on the same day. It ended up costing us hundreds of dollars more because they overbooked the dock. The acting manager promised to compensate us for our delay if we would let the other people go first. Here we are 5 weeks later, and there has been no restitution. We have contacted the manager several times and she assures us she will make it right. In the meantime, my mother has received two bills for the months of December and January. They threatened to turn her over to a collection agency if she didn't pay her December bill (she moved in November!) This place has NO leadership! We are still trying to communicate with the manager, but all we get is lip service. Our next step is to contact an attorney to get promised restitution and to stop the threatening, erroneous bills.

Horrible

Horrible. If zero were a possibility that's what I would choose. Nothing but liars. This review & the issues will not be in sequence, but I have to get it out here. The public needs to be made aware that this place, new that it is, has no freaking clue what they are doing or just simply don't care. So please, just bear with me, again, the issues here are not in sequence. Let me start with the fact that this is for the memory care section. This particular home likes to have a "round table" kind of chat. That's where the heads of each department sit together and discuss issues. It's also the way they meet the family members to discuss the needs of the resident. They also try to use it to intimidate the family members when they don't want to do what the sales person promised would be done. The sales person comes off being all sweet, caring and concerned and gives you all the answers you want to hear. You pay your thousands of dollars for your community fee and monthly fee, get your loved one all settled in, thinking they'll be safe and checked up on, NOT! Thank god for a camera we put in her room. On her 3rd day of being there she was on the floor yelling for help for OVER AN HOUR!!! We were at lunch and hadn't looked at the camera but afterward we looked to check on her. Saw her on the floor and called them right away. Then, went back and checked the recording. Over an hour on the floor, yelling for help. Yes we had sound and video on the camera with their approval. Thankfully she was okay. We were told by the sales person and the nurse who came to do the evaluation of my family member that she would be checked on every hour. Lies. The head nurse advised us, after we paid and my family member was all moved in, that would be incorrect and the least amount of time would be every two hours. I might add, he was not a very nice person and the every two hours was a lie as well. We even got to the point of having the aides sign a sheet every time they checked on her. The sheet was signed when no one actually checked. The doors to the residents rooms are kept open. Not just unlocked, open. They don't have enough staff to watch the residents so they leave the doors open for the residents to come and go as they please, even when it's not their room. We were told its easier for the aides to get in as well. Again, this is the memory care of the residence. Dementia and Alzheimer patients are not always accommodating and sometimes downright combative. Some of the residents here would go into other rooms and take what they want and try to enforce what they thought to be the "rule." My 96 year old, 98 pound, family member was so afraid of things that went on there that she would actually pull furniture to block they door so that no one could get in. Luckily the furniture she was given by us was wicker and light enough to be pushed open. The maintenance people don't know how to hang a picture and yet they insist it be them who do it. Either too high, too low or just plain crooked. Let's not even talk about hanging a tv. The room was nice, a 1 bedroom. They neglected to tell us the room was right over a bar. A bar with outside TV's. Thankfully my family member was hard of hearing but the noise was unbearable and was all night long. We have it on tape. We were also told that if my family member moved out within 30 days, she would get her community fee back. That too, was a lie. Shame on us for trusting the sales person. There is so much more but I just can't. I feel my blood pressure rising as I type.

HORRIBLE

They were Horrible. The 1st time they let my mother do without her breathing treatments was for about a month and a 1/2 which landed her in the hospital for 3 days. The 2nd time they let her breathing medicine run out it was a for about 2 and a 1/2 weeks before I caught on. I take better care of people's pets than these savages took care of human beings

Horrid

Staff is marginally competent. Actually walked into one administrator's office while she was polishing her nails. No insight into how to connect with their residents; a lot of condescending talk. Nursing was no better. Had to come into their offices and point out that my mom was a fall risk (after a surgery) and needed additional help. And every helping act was another opportunity to upcharge. Run, don't walk, away from Atria.

Atria Memory Care Grapevine should be shut down

My relative was at Atria in Memory Care for several months. I would not recommend this facility to my worst enemy. The aids are completely incompetent to care for patients with dementia. The management only wants to over drug memory care patients and put them to sleep by 6pm. The memory care facility should be shut down by the state. They are barely a baby sitting facility, but still charge memory care prices. We explained the condition of my relative as advanced dementia when interviewing the facility. We were assured that Atria was very experienced taking care of patients with this condition. Complete LIE. They just want your up front fee and overpriced monthly fee. As soon as a patient gives them any issues (which is the definition of dementia) they will evict you. What they did to my family is inhumane. I do not know how these people sleep at night. Horrible horrible people and company.

Gone Bad

A wonderful place gone bad Sierra Point was absolutely the place to be five years ago . About two years ago, Atria acquired Sierra Point and ever since it’s gone completely down hill. The food is not eatable, they are short staffed and overall the decore has gotten old and worn. I would NOT recommend this home for anyone
