Atria

I think Atria has potential to be a great facility. There are many long term staffers which speaks highly of the service.

In order to have excellent care the patrons have to hire an aide out of pocket. We would not really recommend this community to other families based on the experience so far.

Facility is welcoming and reception staff is warm and inviting. Food is good and they accommodate restrictive diets quite well. Very responsive and went 'above and beyond' during sale. There has been a lot of turnover in leadership recently and it's very difficult to know who does what or who is ultimately accountable.

Staff was friendly although occasionally not quite up to standards on her care....they seemed to be confused as to how her medications worked. The food was pretty bad. Cheaply made and unappetizing to my mom who was absolutely not a picky eater.

Their personal care is like independent loving. Their memory care is like mild personal care. The place looks nice, but the care is minimal. Like everywhere else, it is woefully understaffed

I wish the caretakers would spend more time with the dementia patients rather than hanging out with each other in the office . Their processes actually hindered my parents ability to have their pain controlled in hospice. My parent also fell in the middle of the night and the the night staff refused to help her get up. It was awful; they refused to call the fire department because they didn't want to upset them.

They truly are the nicest group, is the place 100% perfect, no, but my mom is well liked there & has been doing well. Only complaint is sometimes she feels she waits too long for assistance. Weekends maybe short staffed

The food is my biggest concern here. I have a special diet to follow. My husband doesn’t, he can eat anything. The exercise room you must get a key from someone. Which I will find out where to get the key. My husband would like to exercise also. A lot of their residents don’t require this type of exercise. The hairdresser you must make an appointment it’s expensive. I wanted to try another place but my husband wanted to come Atria.

So my dad describes the food for the most part as institution food. What irritates him, is if he gets to the dining area may be a little later some of the specials are gone. He firmly believes there should be enough for everyone who wants that particular choice. But on the hole, he says it's good. Something that has happened multiple times and is unacceptable. I have expressed to the director as well as my father and that is, that a staff will knock on the door walk right in and proceed to have a conversation with my dad while he's on the toilet. My dad has all his faculties still continues to write articles for the tribune And this is completely unacceptable.

The nurse may only be available part time. There are many varied activities for residents to participate in. The resident care/attention could use some improvement.

The physical environment is well maintained and there is a good variety of apartments layouts. The group activities are highly engaging.

The facility/grounds are beautiful and well kept. The employees are very friendly, patient and caring I think they could do more to help integrate new residents into the community. I would have a designated table in the dining room for new people where they could be greeted and meet the other residents and have an opportunity to make a friend. I would also have staff try to make introductions of the new residents regularly to aid in hopefully helping make a friend. The long time residents are "click-ish" and it is pretty hard to break into any of the card playing groups specifically or really connect with another resident and actually make a friend. I also feel that the outings have been reduced and that is affecting the residents who cannot drive. (I believe they only have one bus driver at this time). The food has been sporadic. Sometimes pretty good but they had no hot food for at least a week due to a kitchen issue. I know that Atria is a chain and has other facilities in the area so it seems odd that they had no access to hot food and they only have access to one bus driver for Atria Willow Glen

The staff are compassionate professionals while the facility is falling apart, roof leaks, floors flooded, smell of rotting construction materials.

Atria does not have an enhanced medical license so if someone's loved one is a fall risk, atria is not the right facility. But the aides who work there and the dining staff were all amazing.

Now that the new Executive Director is here, everything is better and continues to improve! She is wonderful. She listens to us, the residents, and truly cares about us and tries to meet our needs and desires. She always makes herself available to us for meeting, hearing our concerns, etc., and she is sweet as can be! The Dining Room Manager and Head of Maintenance are also particularly helpful and extremely nice!

I think mom is doing OK at Atria Riverdale. Some of the staff is standoffish and seem more interested in their job than in the residents. However, since the new Executive Director has joined the facility, my mom is much happier. This Director really seems to care about the individual residents. She spends time with them and exhibits true caring qualities. Prior to her arrival there were several times when I needed to call the Regional Director. She was cold, rude and uninterested, and never followed through. Now I am confident my concerns are being addressed. I truly believe that qualifications to work with the elderly must include caring and sensitivity!

I like the fact that I don’t have to take care of myself - don’t have to worry about food, shopping, cleaning. I love going to happy hours with my friend. I like the people that work here! I would hope the food would be better. We love that my cat gets to live here too!

They just hired a new director, after at least 6 Mos. Without one. Also, just hired a new driver after about 6 Mos. Without one. Food is awful! Can't keep a chef. And they keep cutting back on the food they offer. Residents are very unhappy with the food! My mom has been there for 2.5 years. They have raised her fees every year substantially.

I would recommend it to others. We picked them because of the price.

My mom has complained that service is not consistent. She pays for dressing every morning and staff shows up all different times (which often makes her late for breakfast) Plus they rush her and don't take enough time.
