My mother has lived here for 3 months and after many staff changes, we continue to have issues with the care provided and constant issues with medications. All kinds of things were promised, however, we are very unhappy and are considering moving her. I see reviews from 2016 about renovations. That's what we were told in Nov. 2018, and it is now June 2019 and they have still not been done!!! Mom's apt. hasn't been cleaned for 3 months as staff continue to quit. Director, chef, housekeeping and nursing staff have all quit!!! Food is not good and don't provide a variety. If you can find somewhere else, go there.

My family member has been a resident of Alto since it was known as Bickford, and then Charter Senior Living. We have been extremely pleased with the care given until Allegro Management took over in early 2018. Since then we are seeing a dramatic turnover in nursing, CNA and other staff. Wonderful gifted people who have been providing dedicated care for years are leaving. And new hires quit or don’t show up for work. I believe one of the most important things in a senior citizen’s life is consistency, especially for those with memory issues. Being cared for by someone who knows them, their daily needs, likes and dislikes goes a long way towards providing them with the ultimate quality of life. I am holding on to hope that this facility could return to its original greatness, IF Allegro Management wakes up and fixes what is broken before it’s too late.

My mom has lived here for about a year. I've gone to a couple of meals with her and the food quality is very poor and small portions. Everything is either fried or canned. No variety to speak of, no choices allowed; they make the menu and that's what you get. Very long wait time when you ring for assistance, sometimes up to 2 hours or more. Very high employee turn over. Incorrect charges on the monthly bill, for things we didn't request or need. There have been times when medication was questionable. For example, the pills looked different than what is normally taken. There is no delivery service allowed or mom could have her meds delivered and take them herself. Wonder if there is a kickback for the facility to be the only source of Rx. They used to have transportation service for appointments twice weekly, now only on Tuesdays. I feel that when the rate is over $3K per month, the service, care and amenities should be impeccable, or at least excellent. I would definitely NOT recommend this living facility. As a point of reference, we have had previous experience with other places and realize that some things are going to be similar no matter where you go, however this has been a very disappointing experience, to say the least.

Initially, we were impressed with this facility. Now, after yet another new owner, the service here has declined rapidly. Local management is complacent and unresponsive. The facility cannot accommodate the acuity of the residents with the few LPNs and CNAs available. Senior activities are now minimal because one person cannot accommodate everyone and he cannot be present at all times. Regret that A Place For Mom referred us to this facility. For the prices charged, I would highly recommend checking out other facilities.

5/12/16 - my grandmother was a resident at this facility for 11 years through 3 owners Sunrise, Tranquility and finally Bickford. Of the 3 Bickford has proven to be the worst. In the almost 4 years since they've acquired the facility it has continually declined. [removed] She was very happy there until the last few weeks of her life. Sadly since her death very few changes have been made in a management presence during the weekends. My advice is if you put your loved one here and they require a good amount of care you need to make sure you visit often especially on weekends. I was there at least 5 days a week and it turned out not to be enough. It's a beautiful facility and was once a thriving community and while there are some amazing staff there there are more that just do not care. I think it can be a wonderful place again but changes need to be made.

The people running the place are the nicest people. Terry is terrific and the receptionist, Dawn, is the best. However, there is very little for the people living there to do besides bingo, which most men don't play. When you walk into the facility, most of the people in the lobby are sleeping. When they have some terrible singers come to the home, the people are sleeping during their performance. The food is the worst I have ever witnessed. I was going to eat dinner with my husband last night and the menu was a meatball sub or a tomato filled with egg salad and two small cookies for desert. When I got there after dinner, a group of people were sitting around and lobby. We got into a conversation and everyone agreed they definitely need to improve the quality of the food. It is awful. I am taking my husband out of Emeritus Thursday because he hates it there. There is nothing for him to do all day. He went to the restaurants twice and the service was so bad and it took so long, he didn't want to go again. It is a bad situation all around. He was there a month before someone changed the sheets on his bed. It is supposed to be "assisted living" but I do not see much assistance going on there.

After more than 2 years of CONSTANT follow-ups, meetings, & conference calls with Emeritus at Ocoee management for problem after problem, we recently moved our loved one to a phenomenal facility. At Emeritus at Ocoee (not a complete list): (1) our loved one was mis-medicated at least 6 times (that we know of) (2) med techs did not read med labels to properly administer meds (3) memory care in particular was not clean (e.g., cushions reeked of urine, dirty Depends left in residents' rooms garbage cans) (4) TV used as a baby sitter while some staff sat around reading magazines or talking, esp. on weekends, instead of interacting with the memory care residents (5) Alzheimer's residents (including our loved one) sent to the ER ALONE with out-dated meds list (while family member rushed to get to ER before wrong med or dosage given) (6) few stimulating activities in memory care unit because "no money" - done on a shoestring (7) took days or WEEKS for something to get done properly, from updating a meds list to proper dispensation of a med to special food prep/food needs We were totally stressed out and fed up the entire time our loved one was there -- every visit was coupled with another problem, another follow-up, a need for another meeting or call or email -- CONSTANT AND ON-GOING the ENTIRE time up through and until we moved our loved one in 2013. Management made promises, most of which never happened unless there was no extra cost to Emeritus. Some staff good -- not enough of them -- but most have no common sense, don't care about the residents (esp. in memory care where attentiveness and caring is needed), and are horribly inefficient. We were told incompetent aides were "counseled" but could not be fired! Services are better in assisted living for the most part with more activities for those who are not as cognitively impaired. Emeritus at Ocoee advertises its "brain health program," but it is essentially non-existent, esp. in the memory care unit. We have seen a vast improvement in our loved one since the move to the new [removed] more engaged, smiles more, and is much cleaner (as is the new facility itself).

Our experience has been very disappointing. Paying more does not necessarily mean receiving better care or better service. In our experience, the community has been understaffed and disorganized. The biggest concern has been the memory care unit. Residents seem to have far fewer choices than those in assisted living. The food quality is poor, portions are small, and residents are not offered the same beverages or desserts that are available in assisted living. While the memory care staff themselves have been compassionate and caring, they appear limited by the policies they are required to follow. The administrative side has also been frustrating. My husband moved in on [date removed] and despite repeatedly asking the community to process our payment, they still had not withdrawn the funds from our account more than a month later. We made numerous phone calls and spoke with staff in person, but the issue remained unresolved, reflecting a lack of organization and communication. I also worry about the consistency of my husband's personal care. If I didn't visit every other day, I don't know if basic grooming needs would be addressed. For example, I sent soap for him, and it sat in the nurse's office for a week before it was finally given to him. Experiences like this have made me question how closely residents' daily needs are being monitored. Overall, I regret choosing this community. While the frontline memory care staff have shown compassion, the facility's staffing, organization, and overall management have left us deeply disappointed.

After several months found a place for mom and [Name removed]said our deposit would be refunded. 6 weeks later, no refund , no replies to calls, texts or emails. If he is that unprofessional, I shudder to think about the level of care.

I toured the facilty and was very impressed - however once I signed up & moved in - it was NOTHING like I was shown. the people - (med tecs) were nasty and rude and complained everytime I ask for any assistance. The nurse that did my evalation was nice on day 1 and was very Rude everyday after. The administration was polite however they did not verbally disclose that the "money paid upfront" would not be returned upon my 5 day stay - that it was a community fee and would allow me to be a resident there anytime in the future. I wanted my money back as I would not be returning there. Also, after I returned home - I recieved a bill from the pharmacy for over $300.00 for meds that I never recieved. My opinion to others would be to Not entertain this facility as I see it as a rip off.

When they call an ambulance for your loved one, they will NOT call you! I found out the hard way! And if you ask [Name Removed], like i did in January, he will say he did not know about it. The WORKERS there are top notch, but the administration-not so much. Please don't use my name if you mention this. I wish I had been warned about this place. No one has said anything about it to me. She has to be in locked up area, there are not many that i know of in this area. I checked out the other location. It was worse.??

My mother was at the range in memory care unit. And since she was there, there has been 3 people that has passed away, and my mother was the fourth. I came in Sunday morning to visit my mother. She was out eating breakfast. She wasn't feeling very well so I took her back to her room and Satter interchain. And she was complaining of stomach pains so I got [name removed] , the nurse to look at her and she made a smart reply that she said if she would get up in the morning. Her stomach could not be hurting, so she came and gave her some laxative and did not examine her. Can I ask my mother if she want to lay down? She said yes so I laid her down. And it looked like she was resting peacefully. When I later down? I left for about 45 minutes and then when I got back. I went over and sat down and I noticed she was real cold and saliva was running out of her mouth so I ran and got the other nurse. And then she had to call the Pyramid x. And within an hour after that, she has passed away.

Staff is very unattentive. Sits in the corners or the med rooms looking at their phones instead of interacting with and checking on residents. Multiple resident falls occurred during the brief time my mom was a resident. Although falls are often unavoidable, I am certain that the lack of staff attention contributed to the risk. I will say that the activities coordinator in the memory care was fantastic. No idea if she is still there; and there were select caregivers who clearly cared about the residents and provided good care. Just too many who did not.

Looks great and they say everything you wanna hear when you're visiting, but when your parent is actually living there, it was terrible care! Not very organized with the care. They make you think the iPads that they have in their room is a great solution, but it's terrible and half the time it doesn't even work and the resident don't even know how to use them. I wish I would've never moved my mother there. I had to move her out. Very Bad experience!!

The lake is not easily accessible. You have to go across a very busy road, which was one of the things I specifically asked for and was not told the truth on my parents left after two weeks there a few things were out of working order nobody ever came to fix them. The staff was very friendly, especially the dining room staff the activity staff was extremely friendly. Nothing just ever got done. The other thing after meal time the Elevator is quite the wait because you've got a bunch of walkers waiting to get in line while my parents were there half the time one elevator was not able to be used. None of it seemed really extreme to me, except for complete lack of transparency that the lake was not easy to get to for an elder person without getting run over and there's homeless people sleeping under the pier.

I think it's pretty obvious they could begin with the quality of care number 4. I would not recommend this facility to my worst enemy! I had 3 meetings with the facility administrator and team in a matter of 5 months and too many calls with the administrator to count! I could honestly write a book about all of the issues!

The Oscar is a beautiful facility and was great for independent living. However, after moving my mother from independent to assisted living things went downhill quickly. They failed to give her three different prescription medications over a period of several weeks which quite possibly impacted both her health and her behavior. Discovering this led me to start electronic monitoring (with their knowledge) where I discovered other issues. They failed to follow through with agreed upon resolutions to some of my concerns, even after updating the care plan to address issues. They refuse to provide complete medication administration records. These issues and more made me choose to move my mother after only six and a half months there. Upon move out they failed to give me all of my mother’s medications and in fact gave me medications belonging to another resident! I had to return to the facility to straighten out their mistakes and get the medications belonging to her.

Dining and food are a 5. Aides that distribute meds are not on time. They come in in the middle of the night and stop right inside the door and yell for residents to get up and do not assist them. Head RN [name removed] in assisted doesn't follow up to see if her staff performs their duties. My mom has Parkinson's which they knew when she was admitted and they did not give her the assistance she required. They evicted her after 2 months. I would not recommend that place to care for anyone. Head RN [name removed] from memory care tried to supplement the care my mom received so memory care is probably good.
