American House

We are still learning the community and how everything works. The staff is very friendly, which has been a positive part of the experience. Cleanliness and the food have both been average. The community seems, unfortunately, to be understaffed. An aide can only do one thing at a time, and you often have to get another aide to help with something else. We are still learning, but there have been some issues that have already been reported.

Staff is attentive but short staffed. Observed a patient fall in DR and no one around to help. Room was clean on arrival but not cleaned weekly. Dining room often not cleaned between meals with dirty tables and food in floor. Room is adequate size. Shower is very small for a 6 ft 3 male. Evening staff seems frustrated with patients not staying in bed. I was told at admission that the would not be an issue.

have you seen the washing machine??? It's filthy, please find them a newer and cleaner machine. It's disgusting!!!!! my mom doesn't need a lot of care, just light assistance in shower. some of the staff get a 5....most maybe a 2. terrible food choices. My mom only eats supper there and it's usually a sandwich of some sort every night. She hates the food. my mom doesn't do the activities. of course all the Assisted Living facilities are too expensive but I would say a 2

It's safe and clean. The issue that I have is that from the time we arrive to now there are substantially cut their staff and it's obvious. We've hired additional caretakers the supplement there needs to ensure my mom is cared for properly. Hopefully, they will reach staff to see more better quality of people. The ones they lost were gems.

This place was great when we first moved in then they had administrative staff and help problems. It still has problems! At the present I don't recommend American House Burlington Creek. Hopefully they get it turned back around.

The caring employees is what stood out. We would recommend to others that would like to live in that area. It is clean and the people are attentive to residents' needs.

Overall the apartment at American House is nice and clean. The food is decent although there is too much sodium in the food. My main gripe is with One Care the Medical team. Please let me know if you want to know more.

I am having an extremely difficult time communicating, with no response. I wanted to change the debited dates. Cordial , initially friendly, place is convenient and nice. I'm asking if they can work with me , not responding.

Food is cheap school cafeteria food. Its horrible. My husband lost weight there bc he hated most of the food. The room is a good size, my husband also had a private washroom. They only bathe a person 2x per week, even if they have pooped themselves. They just use wipes which don't really 'clean' the person. The director and memory care supervisor say they will do things that they don't do. They are not very reliable. They clean well enough, but they don't change the memory care residents out of their dirty diapers enough, so it always smells like urine and feces. I had to get a worker to change my husband a countless number of times bc almost every time I went to see him he was sitting in his poop. They need to pay the ladies that work there more money bc then they will get quality people and the quality of the whole facility will go up. Me giving them a 3 is generous.

They have had some issues, the kitchen staff was replaced after going on strike , the rent was increased a lot for some and many have moved out. The staff that we liked quit and went elsewhere. So for now see what will happen. Keeping alternate options in mind.

There are no positives but I believe we were misled into believing they could take care of our Dad and they could not. I would not recommend them to anyone but would steer them away from going to America House. I honestly believe they contributed to my Dad's rapid decline and death.

They have had several big turn overs since we have been there since September. They are not very responsive to me when I really need something. Some of the staff are very polite and really care for residents but I do not believe that they all are Lots if turn overs never know who I need to go to because they have left

The facilities are very impressive. If viewed only from Metro, it is misleading. Do go in and take a tour to see all that is offered.

They are understaffed, mainly at night. The quality of care is average, due to the understaffing. The meals are average, about half of them are not warm and too tough to eat, especially for geriatric residents. The activities are difficult for most of the residents to participate in if they are disabled.

The staff is pleasant and welcoming. The nurse's and aides are wonderful to work with. Your family member will be checked on and talked to. This is important with transitioning to a new lifestyle. They also, have activities over the weekends, which is unusual for assisted living facilities.

It's hard to remember 1 facility from the next. It seemed somewhat an older facility with some updates. Clean & adequate. Our family is still touring & comparing offerings of each place. We still need to see more.

The house keepers that do light cleaning aren't the best. Bathroom floor is always sticky. The flooring in the kitchen, and sitting area is done poorly. The washer and dryers are the worst. They need new ones. Also, the kitchen staff keep using the washer and dryers when it's supposed to be for residents only. Also, the facility seems to smell like urine every day.

nothing much for the cost. extremely small rooms I expect more for the cost than this and felt extremely rushed to get through the whole 'tour'.

I liked the help and the overall service. I think the food was okay but it would help if they had more options to choose from.

My parents have been in this facility for almost one year. It's a very nice facility; however, my parents and I feel the amenities are not up to parents as advertised. 1. the meals suck; kitchen staff have no idea how to prepare meals worth eating. 2. The bus is NEVER available for transportation to doctor appointments. Scheduling of the bus is unorganized and needs someone that knows how to manage schedule for efficiency and accommodating all residents needs. 3. Social activities are not that exciting. There is very little activities organized on the weekends and most of the organized activities off campus involve going out to eat. 4. Independent living residents need activities off campus that are fun and exciting.
