nice facility, disorganized and kinda busy, physical setting was a bit off putting, first impression was not as positive as it could have been.

I toured this community when I was looking into care options for a loved one. I actually looked at two American House properties, and I was pleased with both of them! This is a nice looking, clean, well kept community, and all the staff I spoke to seemed very friendly and professional. I ended up choosing another option based on proximity to family, but this was somewhere I was considering.

I'll get the bad out of the way first. Residents are allowed to wander the facility, entering other residents rooms and removing personal items at will. Dad's roommate puts his clothes in my Dad's closet and chest. Dad has had clothes missing, a belt, socks, and hankies have all disappeared. I don't like his stuff getting stolen all the time. Now for the good. Staff is friendly with every body. They seem to know all the residents and their families.

We didn't end up choosing this place, but we were impressed on the tour. One aspect that really impressed us was the initial consultation. They really took the time to sit down with my loved one and find out what his interests were, so that they could incorporate them into the activities they offer. That was really impressive to us!

Very nice. It's right downtown Ft. Myers. It's about 80% independent living, but the top floor is all assisted living. They would have everything you need up there, but I think that the fact that it was so big kind of intimidated my in-laws.

Elmcroft of Shallowford is satisfactory in appearance, friendliness, acceptable care of my mother, activities offered. Food sometimes leaves much to be desired! The staff is very caring --from maintenance to the director.

We just thought that the expense was a little bit much for what you got. The value wasn't as good as the other places we were looking at and they offered the same services, like one meal a day.

I visited the American house. I think the Palms and the facility was lovely. I love that the independent living and the assisted-living can come mingle for a meal and maybe interact with each other other. I haven’t been able to understand what the amount would be for administering insulin and medicines during the day. I called the place that the person who gave me the tour given me and didn’t have a clear picture of what the cost would be. I think maybe if they had a virtual meeting with the place up in Michigan where my husband [name removed] is living now maybe we’d have a an amount that I could see if it’s in the ballpark.

Most of the staff were very kind and helpful. Of course there has to be a bad apple here and there. Room size was adequate and it was pretty clean. She was in a handicapped accessible room so it was just one big room. . I would say Not the very best but definitely not the worst according to some stories I have heard". It seemed like they had nice activities for the ambulatory people and the common areas were clean and it did NOT smell like a nursing home.

There has been a lot of turnover of staff, as a result they are often understaffed which affects the quality of care. The food is often not warm when served and sometimes overcooked making to hard for geriatric residents to chew properly. The activities are often not available to residents who have mobility difficulties. I constantly have to meet with the director and nursing manager concerning my father's instruction for care being overlooked by the staff. I have had to hire a caregiver to be there with my father to insure his needs are met. My father is in one of the smallest rooms due to availability and distance to the common areas, it is a 30x30 room including bathroom and closets.

The apartment is excellent, but the housekeeping is not reliable. The dining room seems understaffed, and the food is not very good, with very little protein or vegetables. The activities seem to be geared more toward assisted living residents.

I am unhappy with this greedy/uncaring American House.

she was only at the facility for a couple of weeks and was in the hospital at least half of that time. Definitely a good option for families who do not have a lot of money to spend. It's a nice facility.

Staff and care was good, room was a little small, it was clean. Mom would not entertain going back to though because the food was not good at all. Lots of repeats, and evening meals looked like they came out of can and microwaved. The staff was friendly and was trying to rectify.

Overall, it's a good staff. The night shift could be more attentive, the nursing staff are great, the housekeeping leaves a lot to be desired. Overall, the facility is attractive, with plenty to do when the residents partake. Management drops the ball at times, but they try to make things right when something is brought to their attention. There is enough good there to make me glad my mom is there.

My mom died before she could move in. They were great until we tried to get a partial refund, then it was hard to reach people. We did receive a partial refund

Facility was very nice but a little on the small side. There were no activities for the members to participate in. Care was slow to respond when family members not around. If family members were present care was pretty quick to respond. Trash/ laundry/shower frequently not provided as scheduled. Food not adequate. Very small portions. Food cold upon arrival. Never received full meal. Items of meal left out. When discussed with kitchen staff they would agree but would never come back with requested meal. Very frustrating. Hopefully American House will improve in these areas.

My husband has been here almost 2 months. Most days are good but some are not. They don't have enough capable staff to care for the memory care patients. They have assured me they are hiring additional people . There is no communication between the caregivers and the next shift. I have talked to them about this. There are a few nurses and caregivers that really care about the patients. Having said this, I do feel he is safe and clean, so there is that. Still trying to get adjusted to this whole situation.

Nice staff and residence but building was a converted apartment complex, not fully suitable for senior living. based on hallway space, bathroom layout and laundry availability.
