American House

My loved one was previously a resident at American House Riverview Senior Living and the overall experience was okay for her there. However, the yearly rent increases were hard. Medical care also increased yearly. Yet, no improvement in care level. American House is understaffed and when new staff is added they are not trained on individual care.

The facility was good and the Director and Supervisors were great to deal with! There was a lot of staff turnover and at times not enough of good training. The housekeeping staff did a great job and they were very nice to deal with. The food was average. I would recommend more training and supervision of the staff. Also, if the same aids could be assigned to the same patients, they then know what each patient requires. I think that would be a great help for the staff and patient! But overall, the cost was much lower than other facilities.

Most definitely the biggest problem was not enough nurses. At night I didn't feel there was enough care because of them having too many patients. The food was not the best and it needed much improvement.

They should ask before they go about whether they have to pay privately for one year before they need Medicaid. They need to know that if someone must move somewhere else, they have to give 30 days notice. We didn't know these things when we had to move her to a nursing home 2 weeks before her year was up and they penalized us even though they wanted us to move her.

The maintenance time response for repairs needs to be improved. She constantly complains about the food being to salty. I also have heard her say that the food arrives to the table cold. I would recommend depending on the level of care that is required. Plus, I don't really have anything else to compare it to. I am sure that every facility has some issues.

There is a lot of room for improvement, but that could be the transition. It was disappointing that no one was in his room when I got there to let me know when he passed away. I had to walk into his room alone not knowing he had died. No one followed up with me after we moved his stuff out. Not even a sympathy card. Other problems is that they only have 2 washers and dryers on the memory care floor. They are constantly busy so the aides are taking laundry to other floors and it stacks up. My loved one would sometimes sleep on the bed with no sheets or blankets, and he had 4 sets of sheets. I would sometimes take his laundry home. If he didn't go to the dining room for a meal, I've seen them bring cold chicken nuggets and onion rings to him 3 hours after lunch ice cold.

My stepmom (who will be 100 in April) was a resident of AHE2 for nearly 9 years. My stepmom chose this facility on her own and it served her well for 7.5 years. The part 18 months have seen a significant change in staffing (from Director on down) which has resulted in a degradation I felt. Too bad. The AdvisaCare medical staff was always very helpful and attentive. The current Director ([name removed] was always responsive to my inquiries. As my stepmom aged, the lack of a step-in shower in her room was a problem for her. As the price increased, some of the daily items that used to be done (making her bed) just seemed to fade away and were no longer being performed. Since Jan 2024, my stepmom they changed the time for meal delivery to 9 am, 1 pm and 7 pm. Not very

A few of the staff are excellent. Many are on their cell phones more than working. The head nurse that is available 24/7 is very good and extremely helpful, but they have her taking care of 2 facilities. The workers know this. They know which days there is no way she's going to drop by and it shows. Their activity schedule says that there are a lot of daily activities, but many are non-existent. And on the weekends, zero activities actually happen. The activity guy is M-F, 9-5. If it's outside of that, forget it. It's false advertisement. I don't want to move my loved one. She likes the facility. I toured and investigated online lots of places. This place, hands down, was the best. No place is perfect. Good workers are hard to find, especially in this industry. Stillllllll- I think that there are some small things that could be different to make it a spectacular place.

My loved one is a resident at Anthology at Burlington Creek. Things have been mostly okay, definitely not great. Except for the food, the food is great. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this facility to others.

I think they try but don't have the staff and equipment. I would recommend this facility for someone who doesn't need much assistance.

Maybe they are good compared to other memory care places, but I think there is room for improvement. The same as anywhere you go, there are good staff and bad staff...it is hit or miss. I have seen a lot worse places...... I was hoping for better though. Guess I have to give them a C grade

I would suggest that Administrative Staff return phone calls when requested. Not to chitchat, but be willing to answer a serious question regarding the resident. Overall, I would recommend American House West Knoxville to others.

Based on the experience we have had so far with Anthology of Troy, we can say there are room for improvements.

1. I didn't like living on the 3rd floor and having a balcony, too narrow for my patio table (and chairs). 2. The food served was nothing to rave about. 3. The two bedroom unit is small, square footage wise. I never moved in or lived there, this all based off my tour experience.

My sister and I both think the place is great. Our Uncle is a little more critical because he never wanted to leave his house in Minneapolis. He did admit that since he moved he feels better than he has in a long time.

There's no night nurse and there is only one person at night for the facility. The staff tells me there's not enough help and they are overworked. Cleaning and laundry and bed changing is not once a week. Dishes pile up in the room. Laundry takes forever to get. I know, they've had issues with hiring people. The food is good. The every day caregivers seem friendly enough. They are short staffed in the dining hall. You get food, no silverware, you get food, no drink. They told me on the tour that a food request on paper would be given every day. I've only seen it twice in 3 months. Sometimes the menu posted is not what's served. Management tells me everything will be taken care of...it is eventually...again. I think its lack of staff or maybe they don't get paid enough. A couple of people respond in a timely fashion. On tour, they said I would get an email or newsletter updating me on things going on in the facility. Its never happened. They do post the menu and monthly calendar in the main hall. I've requested a copy of the menu for the room. Never happened. On the upside. For the most part, I know my loved one is safe. She gets 3 meals a day and her meds are regulated. The price is good. But sometimes I have to wonder what's going on there... I truly feel it's a staffing issue. I hate to sound so negative. I was really hoping for a wonderful experience! However, your loved one needs to be checked on to make sure things are being taken care of. I hope American House can turn things around. At this point, it would be difficult to recommend. I do believe that the staff that is there tries their best under difficult circumstances.

They were the only one that would accept my stepdad. Due to his dementia he had become quite mean and spent almost two weeks at a hospital that could deal with that. No one else would accept him, so we ended op here.

The place is pretty run down also, not especially clean. Menu is often incorrect and food is often not tasty or just odd. Almost no orientation to services, activities, or procedures.

Many of the caregivers are wonderful and loving, from the techs, to the dining staff, and the front desk ladies. [name removed], the director, is knowledgeable and incredibly sweet and supportive, and goes the extra mile. We LOVE her!!! The director of nursing, [name removed], who is a LPN, is not qualified to do her job. She misses many things and her assessments are often inaccurate. [name removed], the RN on staff doesn’t seem to be any better. She lacks experience of working with the elderly. The call button at the front door doesn’t work, so good luck trying to access your loved one after 7pm or before 7am. I love the residents here and many of the smiling faces you see when you walk in the door, which makes this a terrific place for your loved one so long as you stay on top of their medical care and keep them hydrated.
