American House

We loved American House when we toured. A new Memory Care Director was hired ... and we were not happy. Dad brought her home at Thanksgiving 2 years ago and said he wouldn't take her back there.

The food needs to be better for the cost! Wonderful staff! They need to ensure that residents are satisfied with the food offerings and quality.

The value for cost gets a 3 but it was the most affordable memory care we could find. They are all so expensive. They need more staff to assist. Understaffed and people are leaving everyday. Location is good and staff is friendly.

Same days the service in the dining room is very slow! Too many activities over lap can't be in 2 place at the same time at the other and on the bldg.

The staff is super friendly, understanding and communicative. The apartments are nice, updated and sunny. The building itself is well kept and has a lot of amenities The dining as of the moment is an issue. My father says dinner time takes 2 hours to get food and they have been constantly “running out” of items.

They could invest in your employees more so the turnover rate is lower and then they would seem less disgruntled. Improve food quality by adding fresher and more diverse options with the clientele in mind. Overly salty yet somehow bland dinners bad for elderly peoples health ND disposition. Train your food staff on how to actually cook. You get a finite number if meals in your life, it's a shame to have eat gross food. It is not worth the cost. I would never recommend American house to any of my family members.

I would say that the accommodations are spacious and the setting beautiful, but unless communication between staff and inmates has gotten better I'd stay away from them. We picked this community because, I grew up in the Florida of the 40s and 50s with old oaks and water views. It reminded me of my childhood and was comforting in its beauty.

There has been high turnover. Staff are nice and working hard but leadership challenges have existed. They try hard. Facilities are nice. Still under staffed. Having talked to many people....this facility is probably a little above average. There are just things we would like different. We know the care industry is struggling so we just manage it best we can. I think people need to manage their expectations whether it is here or even some high cost. We have talked to people who pay ALOT more and are unhappy. This disease is terrible and the people working in this industry have a hard job. Extremely hard. For the price we feel it is good for us.

Each time I've visited my brother his bathroom is not clean nor trash emptied my whole visit. I come prepared to clean his room. He has had urine soaked clothes in his basket when I arrived

One thing I would request is expansion of the "memory care" screening questions. Not everyone has Alzheimer's even if they do have a form of dementia. As far as friendliness of the staff -abrupt conversations after admission with administrative staff changes. The Staff tried to engage our relative. Memory Care had few activities that our "younger" early 60s relative would participate with. The value is a key factor in the relative's desire to continue the lease.

The food needs much improvement. The menu makes it sound very interesting. When in reality, the food is often bland, overcooked, and no longer warm when it is served. Service is difficult due to lack of staffing. I believe that the residents would be happier if they had something to look forward to at dinner time.

All the rooms are very hot. They only have an AC unit in the bedroom. My parents often complain about the quality of their food. Seriously I think the independent living there is better suited for single people who have the drive to participate and aren't afraid to mingle without prodding.

My parents were both in Memory Care. It was great that they could live together even though my stepfather did not need that level of care. I feel that if he had not lived there with my mother the care would have been way worse. Staff shortages, lack of communication between managers and workers, no director (now they have hired one), overnight care lacking and on and on. Overall cleanliness was good. Friendly staff. The friendliest were the laundry girls and the cleaning girls. My mother passed away at the end of [date removed]. My stepfather stayed a couple more months and moved out last week. There was not a consistent level of care. There was also a lack of communication with the residents pertaining to care protocols. Meals were on time and food was plentiful. Lots of snacks and drinks. Quality of the food was good. Activities are varied and frequent. Also many opportunities to go off property. Social and dining are really good. The facility has to work on staffing correctly, monitoring employees to make sure they're doing what they're supposed to be doing and communication.

If you don't have memory problems, don't move into a memory care facility. They lock you in. It's jail. No one wants to be here. They institutionalize you right away. There's no autonomy, no privacy, no respect. Everyone complains about the sub-standard food. New unskilled aides every week. And it's fine. Beautiful landscaping and 10' ceilings. It's pretty much as good as any other place.

The location is very convenient and I am content with my choice. Everyone is nice & there are a few of the Staff members that are genuinely wanting to be helpful. They had some staffing issues this year, but have tried to hire better people. I'm sure that's challenging in today's world. I believe the best advice for those inquiring about Assisted Living is to develop good relationships with Staff members. Also I have tried to maintain patience & a calmness with the Staff, Supervisors & especially my challenges with my Dad.

Some of the workers seem to go above and beyond and some of the workers seem to do only what they have to do. The food is lacking. Sometimes the vegetables are mush, sometimes the vegetables are hard like carrots, sometimes you get a sandwich that it looks like came out of machine where they bought it. The Memory Care Group never seen to get anything to drink except tea and water where the Assisted Living can get water tea milk and coffee. The director of games seems to be off doing something else instead of doing what she was hired to do and she could spend time with the Memory Care Group because they have no one and have not had anyone for months but she doesn't choose to. When the laundry is done, sometimes you don't get your stuff back and sometimes you get other people's stuff and your stuff is never returned.

I would not recommend American House. Although my stepmother was 100 when I took her from American House she was still quite independent.While she was in rehab for her hip I met with Rest Haven and they never once asked me about her finances. Upon registering her for assisted living I did provide bank info. I also learned that the American House Asst. Living had to close one of their wings for improperly cooked foods and lack of staffing. That confirmed my decision to remove her from the premises.I do know that all management has since quit working there.

The staff at Mount Prospect Senior Living are pretty good. Sometimes it is difficult to understand them. I originally looked at this place for assisted living, but ended up needing memory care. They are very different sides. The food is much better in assisted living, more choices. Housekeeping is okay, not consistent. Somedays are better than others, but okay overall. The move in process was very good. Difficulty reaching memory care staff. The front desk staff is excellent, but can't always reach memory care contacts. Overall, they treat my dad very well.

I would recommend it for assisted living and as early memory care. But the staffing can't seem to handle the more advanced patients.

Food was great at first. Then went downhill. Housekeeping could be better. They raised rent in January more than what we get for a raise from Social Security? Typical corporate stuff. I googled Assisted Living and chose this place only to find out after I spent $[removed] moving here that it wasn't Assisted Living. It's enhanced living. Apartment size is good. I use the library a lot. I wish they had a pool in fact if I move I will get a place with a pool. I hear there is a gym on the third floor, but they lock it most of the time. My biggest complaint is they haven't come into the 21st-century and provided Internet. We have to pay for it, which is crazy because people, my age and younger are going to scream
