Very helpful, kind, and thoughtful staff. They look after the residents and always have a positive attitude. I know mom is safe there.

I toured this community when I was looking into care options for a loved one. I actually looked at two American House properties, and I was pleased with both of them! This is a nice looking, clean, well kept community, and all the staff I spoke to seemed very friendly and professional. I ended up choosing another option based on proximity to family, but this was somewhere I was considering.

I'll get the bad out of the way first. Residents are allowed to wander the facility, entering other residents rooms and removing personal items at will. Dad's roommate puts his clothes in my Dad's closet and chest. Dad has had clothes missing, a belt, socks, and hankies have all disappeared. I don't like his stuff getting stolen all the time. Now for the good. Staff is friendly with every body. They seem to know all the residents and their families.

We didn't end up choosing this place, but we were impressed on the tour. One aspect that really impressed us was the initial consultation. They really took the time to sit down with my loved one and find out what his interests were, so that they could incorporate them into the activities they offer. That was really impressive to us!

Elmcroft of Shallowford is satisfactory in appearance, friendliness, acceptable care of my mother, activities offered. Food sometimes leaves much to be desired! The staff is very caring --from maintenance to the director.

We just thought that the expense was a little bit much for what you got. The value wasn't as good as the other places we were looking at and they offered the same services, like one meal a day.

American House/Park Place staff are always very friendly, caring and professional. They are great with communicating with me when needed about my mom. disappointed with the selection of food items in the dining room.

Place is currently under renovation. Not in great location. Near section 8 housing and trailer park. Mom did not care for the feel and situation here so is not currently an option for her. Rep was friendly and helpful

The cleanliness was a big factor in the lower rating. Communication with meds was not a very good and the food and food portions we're lacking. The activities director and parts of the Support staff were very nice and personable.

I moved to this community to be closer to my niece. I enjoy the activities, puzzles and music. I have a lot of peers my age and my apartment is big. The staff is nice but they could improve on a welcome committee.

I moved here two years ago from another smaller community after a rehab stay. I get a lot support from the staff with rides, cleaning and meals. I can no longer live on my own so this place meets my needs.

The staff are wonderful people, but there's always someone who doesn't show up for work, which makes it hard for the ones that do. If they paid the staff more than $[fee removed]/hour, they'd get more people showing up for work and people that cared.

The room size was nice, the food was ok. The staff tries, but it's a little understaffed I think. It just wasn't a good fit for my mother with memory issues.

The staff demonstrated commendable service, with particular recognition for [name removed]. While the facility adequately served the needs of independent residents, the transition to increased wheelchair use and reduced mobility for my mother presented challenges. The reliance on external staff resulted in increased costs and, at times, a perceived lack of professionalism in providing care for dependent individuals. Subsequently, we transferred her to [community removed], which is located nearby. [community removed] provides a higher level of professionalism and attentiveness to residents requiring assistance. Furthermore, the physical infrastructure at American House, including room layouts, doorways, and bathrooms, is comparable to standard apartments. In contrast, [community removed] facilities are specifically designed to accommodate residents with dependency and wheelchair needs. American House was satisfactory for independent living arrangements, offering basic room and board services.

Definitely a wider variety of activities. They also need to have special meals for holidays and host family nights. They lack in variety of food offered. A lot of soup and sandwiches for dinner and fish a lot. They charge to much for what you get. It is kept clean and the rooms are nice.

In defense of American House, my mom moved from Florida to Michigan and we could not conduct a proper in-person assessment of her needs prior to the move. However, I gave only a 3 out of 5 for "Overall Experience" because during my mom's stay, it became clear quickly that her needs were greater than Independent Living could provide. We paid a $[fee removed]k "one time" facilities fee for a roughly four month stay before she had to be moved to an Assisted Living facility. And when we provided a mid-month "move out" date, they deducted the whole month's rent and it took 90 days, plus multiple calls, texts, emails and in-person visits to receive the prorated rent refund. Their on-site care assistance (Ready Care) was inconsistent. Some of the staff was helpful and caring, and others were clearly unqualified even to do basic tasks. I would find soiled clothing on my mom's bathroom floor, unwashed dishes and dirty blankets, etc. I ended up putting cameras in my mom's apartment and found one attendant yelling and flailing her arms when my mom needed help. When I sent the video to the staff, they did say the attendant had been disciplined, but also made the point that they were all overworked. This attendant made my mother (who had stitches in her forehead from a previous fall) walk into a shower with her pants around her ankles. It was a situation that could have been extremely dangerous, especially for a known fall-risk. I realize this is NOT American House's responsibility, but it makes me question what role they have in resident advocacy when the on-site care company allows this type of situation to occur. I believe someone from American House should have "raised the flag" to say that my mom needed more care than they were equipped to provide and that they should have been much faster to refund the money the deducted for rent. Further, I believe there should have been some kind of refund of the $[fee removed]k one time fee given her relatively short stay and the litany of issues we had. All this said, if your loved one is *truly* independent, it appears to be a fine place to stay. It's clean, American House staff is friendly and it is in a good location for easy shopping and dining.

Lot of hiccups with getting information related to medication and care in a timely manner. Not organized since new.

I did like the way they charged residents. One month it was [amount removed]next month was [amount removed]and one month it was a whopping [amount removed] according to her care. I would recommend this place to anyone I know.
