American House

American House staff has been great, attentive and caring. Thank you for checking back, I will definitely recommend this facility and staff. Staff is friendly and attentive, location is close to VA for Dr appointments, facility is easy to get around and several fun activities for the patrons.

Very clean and organized without unnecessary storage. The sales woman was very pleasant and knowledgeable of the facility.

Staff is fantastic. Kind. Aware. Facility seems kept up. My mom hasn't left the room much yet so not sure about much.

I live in New Jersey and I've only seen pictures online and spoke to staff. The staff is always available and they do a great job following up on things.

Staff is truly engaged with the residents. The assisted living 1 bedrooms are spacious and offers privacy and room for visitors. I've had some lunches there and the is good and they offer a variety. There are plenty of activities for residents to participate if they chose to. I believe they offer outings foe residents who able to shop for themselves. I personally have had to hire private home health services to transport my sister to her doctors appointments due to she is in a wheelchair and has poor memory needing someone to be with her. The facility does offer transport but does not go in with resident. Communication is key to a smoother transition. I am out of state making it harder to just pop in and handle certain things. The facility is very clean and nice. I like the fact they have occupational and physical therapy on site eliminates additional outside appointments.

The staff seems to be concerned for my father's care. He can be difficult at times. My dad's got around a 400 square foot apartment with toilet, shower, kitchen faucet and a small refrigerator. Heat and water are included

Suggestion, clients and families who provide care should watch the monthly billing amounts carefully . They correct them when identified and we are looking forward to improvements .

American House Shallowford was clean and well run. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will probably go back there if the need arises again.

The tour and administration were great. Very informative. Didn’t get to see a two bedroom, that is what I wanted to see, but was promised a tour when one became available.

Mom is a lot to handle right now wish they had more staff to spend time with her one on one. The staff is very good and call with any issues but she needs a little more attention during the day to keep her awake so she doesn't get her nights and days mixed up. The front desk people are amazing and are very helpful. I guess I would say they need more staff more nurses but I know how hard that is. Everyone does a great job!

Friendly and cooperative staff overall but disappointed with the protocols (or lack thereof) after my mother was diagnosed with head lice after being there two months. Never before has she had them and all they did was bill us [Amount Removed] to have her room fumigated. No checking up on other residents, etc.

The staff was really good. Apartment size was really good. Cleaning and smell was bad but I believe they did the best that they could. My biggest complaint was the accounting. Billing was always an issue and responding was also an issue.

I chose American House Holland because of the price. They could improve on the food.

I had a couple issues in the end and had to move her to another facility. Alzheimer's is known to cause a nice person to become aggressive. When my sister became aggressive they said they could not handle it or check her for a UTI which can also cause aggression. They did not tell me this up front when I signed her up to move there. They instructed me to take her to the ER at least 5 times in a short period of time. The last two ER doctors said the facility should be able to handle the situation. More to the story but the facility asked me to find her another place. The new place can handle the situation and is $[removed] less a month. Not as pretty but better service. Also I am trying to get a refund for the partial month she was not there at their request.

American House has a vibrant senior community comprised of 2 floors or assisted living, 3 floors of independent living, and one secured floor for memory care. Each type of living has its own beautiful outdoor terrace. The memory care floor has a sensory garden. The assisted living terrace has bocce ball and other sports for visiting families and active residents. The independent living floor has a terrace open to all that has comfortable chairs and a skyline view. There is a concierge and hot coffee in the lobby 24/7. A movie theatre, coffee shop, exercise rooms, on site PT/OT, in house medical group, organized social events, etc. The residents are treated like adults. The staff are kind. It's been a positive experience for my mother.

The people and staff are all very nice and knowledgeable. And yes, I would definitely recommend to others. Everyone is very friendly here!

What we really liked about American House is that it was a smaller community and very hands-on. All the people that work there are very friendly and seem to really care for mom. [name removed] who is the main contact that I had with the community was awesome. I met with him for about an hour and he was very compassionate about mom. She has been there about six weeks and has adjusted very well and seems to enjoy to be there. Even though you can't put price on care for a loved one the fee that they charge is reasonable. But to answer your question, yes I would highly recommend American House. And also one thing that I took into high consideration with all of them that I toured was the cleanliness and how a community smelled. I know that sounds different, but I'm OCD when it comes to cleanliness and odors. When I first walked in, that's one thing I noticed was how clean the community was and how nice it smelled.
