American House

Experience has been very good. Have not used any of the services except cleaning. [name removed]has been very helpful. Nice environment.

Friendly tenants and staff made a point to have interesting events planned. Mom enjoyed the book club. There were a couple residents with memory issues that probably should have been somewhere else. One was perhaps progressing rapidly as she passed away. I'm not sure the communication with their family - just noticed symptoms as we interacted. ( 2 sweet ladies, one passed away before about the time Mom did, the other had tried to get into Moms room a couple times. Staff seemed responsive to Mom communicating concern. Mom's unit had an electrical problem. Just using stove tripped breaker that could only be accessed by staff and was an issue a couple times. They seemed to try and troubleshoot but we never got a real reason. Temp control in her unit was non-existent. It sometimes got very hot and didn't seem to respond to the thermostat. Medical Team personnel were not always there to escort her to meals. They were friendly enough but some inconsistency in service. They did respond overnight when mom had concerns - we were thankful for that.

The facility common areas and grounds are kept well. They empty trash whenever and mop once a week and clean bathroom once per week. Staff is wonderful. My brother doesn't participate is many of the activities. He's not a bingo player. They have family night once a month with a theme and I go with him each time. He likes the food. They have raised his rent 3 times and he has been there a little less than a year. He is content, has made friends so American House was a good choice for him. Quality of care is good. I'm over there every 3 days so I stay on top of things.

The hours you eat. My mom eats at 4 but on weekends 3. A little early. I wish they had residents assigned to help new residents. They say they have an ambassador program but I don't know of anyone who was approached by an ambassador. Overall my mom is very happy. I know she is safe and loves food and happy hour!

I'd say that overall it's a good place. It's clean and feels safe. The staff try to get to know each residents needs and preferences, and Mom has been able to develop trusting relationships with several staff who she feels safe talking to about any concerns. Having said that, there is a fair amount of staff turnover and shuffling around which makes it harder as a family member to develop a consistent contact person to go to with questions or concerns. I have also had to do more follow up than I expected to have to do to make sure things like medications changes have been implemented properly. I would recommend American House to a friend with the caveat that they need to be fairly hands on when it comes to double checking on follow through of staff on specific instructions, requests, etc

I think that the food supervisor could adjust the food usage because sometimes they run out of food. Please make sure the staff does weekly house cleaning consistently. Please make sure that residents concerns are addressed in a timely manner.

What our family likes the most about American House Hendersonville is the friendliness of the staff. We would absolutely recommend the facility is clean and has a nice "feel" as soon as you walk in the door!

Staff is very friendly and in tune with residents. Staffing levels seem a little light sometimes, especially on weekends and holidays.

Everyone there was very nice! Especially [name removed] and [name removed]. I don't know what we would've done without them. She said the best meal she had was the first day she was there. I think they changed chefs or something. She also complained that she had chicken almost every meal.

I would recommend American house

I would recommend the facility. The biggest issue is communications. Communications from management to the family members about changes in management and other things that family members need to know. Communications between the aides, the med tech and other employees whose first language is not English. I sometimes find it difficult to understand what many of the employees are saying. Consequently, my wife, who is in memory care, does not always understand what the aides or other employees are asking her to do because of their accents and their failure to speak slowly and clearly when giving simple commands. This issue often results in agitation, and the failure to achieve the desired result. Unfortunately, it is my understanding that this is a common problem in Southwest Florida. For me, the most important factor is seeing my wife being happy on an everyday basis, which is very difficult because of her degenerative brain disease. However, her day is usually dictated by the experiences she has with the aides who care for her in memory care.

The staff was awesome. They always were smiling and had kind words and were generally concerned about welfare of each and every patient. Unfortunately, mother passed away [date removed] , 21 days short of her 88th birthday. I missed her every day.

They were good when mom was still able to take care of herself. She misses her friends there. I wish she was still there and taking care of herself. Staff was short handed for the amount of residents. Faculty was not around on weekends. Need more people on weekends. Plus more entertainment.

The intake process is very easy and pleasant. The food was absolutely terrible. The food is cheap, such as hotdogs and grilled cheese. Most days the menu says soup or salad for lunch in addition to what is being served, but most times there was no soup and salad. The chicken most times is overcooked and dry, which is dangerous for the elderly as they can choke. The power went out and the facility did not have a working generator, which meant no heat or air for the elderly residents. It took days to get the power back on. Also, the medical device for residents which is an added cost, doesn't not work most times. The purpose of the device is to alert staff if there is a health emergency. I was there on several occasions when my uncle tried to use the device to signal the staff that he needed to be changed. He is paying for staff to change him 3 times a day and he was lucky if they came once. The staff never responded to the device alert. We learned that most times the device alarm system is not connected to the main source in the office. So that means residents are paying for this extra medical alert device and getting no service. If my uncle had been choking or could not breathe and a family member was not present, he surely would have died. I would never or could ever recommend American House to anyone. It is overpriced and a serious safety risk for the elderly. I would say..."enter at your own risk."

It took awhile for my mom to settle in at American House Riverview Senior Living. But once doing so, she really likes it there. Everyone is friendly, the place is always clean and the care (as long as they are not shorthanded) is excellent.

Mom is doing pretty well. She has made some great friends and tho she is moving a bit more slowly, she is still moving! Her only complaint, really, is the food. Although they put on a great Mother's Day dinner, most meals are sub par at best. She loves getting her hair done and enjoys the many amenities.

I would recommend they look around before choosing this place.

Overall, I don't have many real complaints. They have been very helpful and responsive to any issues I or my mother has had. No complaints with the cleanliness. Everyone I have dealt with has been great. I am well pleased with her care, as is she. Mom's situation is a little different than most when it comes to meals, so I have had to deal with I expected. So far, though, it has been better than most other situations in the past. I wish there were more things and opportunities for Mom to do inside and outside, but this isn't really an issue. I just think they may either be a bit understaffed or under-equipped as currently constructed. I'm pleased with the cost, but as with anything these days, it could always be less expensive. Comparatively though, I have zero issues with the value we are getting.

My loved one was previously a resident at American House Coconut Point. Overall, the experience was good. However, the call button technology often failed- resulting in delays getting assistance from the caregivers. The facility and the food menu were very good. The facility was always clean and nicely decorated.

My loved one is currently a resident at American House Freedom Place Roseville. We have been very happy with the facility/experience. They have done a nice job of hiring and retaining people. That makes a big difference to us. We feel like everyone knows my mom and her needs. We don't constantly have to train new people. This level of care is expensive, but given that we feel good the rate, is justified.
